TheDevilAndGodAreRagingInsideMe 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 Bored: You don't think Derrek Lee will even make the squad?
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 He's the DH. That Cantu should make the squad for the D-Rays, not that bum Baeyz.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 Deserving team represenatives from underperforming teams or teams unlikely to field a starter. This does not take positional needs of each squad into account... ARI: Craig Counsell or Luis Gonzalez ATL: Marcus Giles or Andruw Jones CIN: Adam Dunn CLE: Travis Hafner or Grady Sizemore COL: Clint Barmes (Todd Helton 2nd) DET: Brandon Inge KC: Emil Brown or David DeJesus MIL: Carlos Lee MIN: Joe Mauer NYM: Cliff Floyd OAK: Mark Kotsay PIT: Jason Bay SD: Brian Giles SF: Omar Vizquel TB: Julio Lugo TOR: Roy Halladay WAS: Nick Johnson Lugo over Cantu? I think Win Shares placed Lugo ahead on the basis of having nine more games played, 21 stolen bases compared to Cantu's zero, and Cantu is genuinely struggling in the field, while Lugo is producing excellent fielding statistics. Cantu's fielding statistics rate among the worst in the American League. Cantu hits for more power than Lugo. Lugo's edge is just about everything else. That Cantu has walked 7 times in 273 at bats is a huge red flag.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 Mauer's pretty much been a singles hitter. Nice On-base, but really hasn't taken off like he was supposed to do.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 Mauer's pretty much been a singles hitter. Nice On-base, but really hasn't taken off like he was supposed to do. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He's hitting .289/.364/.417. Is he lacking power? Some perhaps, but remember he is just 22 years old. The vast majority of players Mauer's age are still in the minor leagues.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2005 I just don't think he should make the All-Star team. I would like to see the Twins get a new hitting coach, since no one really improves under Scott Ullger, and David Oritz blewup after he left.
