NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 I know people claim DTS is a bit better then Dolby Digital but for those experts out there, how much better would you say it is, and is it worth any extra money for a receiver?
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted June 10, 2005 It really depends on the DVD. In some cases, there isn't much of a difference between a DD and a DTS track. Whether or not it's worth buying a DTS receiver is up to you. If you have a good amount of DVDs with great DTS tracks, you'll probably want to upgrade. DTS receivers are relatively cheap now. Even if you don't have that many DVDs with good DTS tracks, you'll probably want to upgrade if you're dedicated to your home theater system.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 If you have a choice, go with DTS. But most of the time you don't get a choice.
spman 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 Honestly, at the movie theater where I work, we have some auditoriums with Sony, some with DTS, and some with Dolby, and the DTS always sounds far and beyond the best of the three.
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted June 10, 2005 Virtually all surround sound receivers currently on the market come with both Dolby Digital and DTS standard, so extra money shouldn't be an issue. When I have a choice playing a DVD movie, in the menu options, I always select DTS. You can usually notice, if you compare, that DTS seems louder and fuller. DTS uses less compression than Dolby Digital, so that is the benefit. Dolby Digital still sounds very good though.
eiker_ir 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2005 yeah it really depends on the DVD and the work that it was put into the mastering of each track, but 90% of the time the DTS track will be superior to the DD one.
