Einstein's Quiz

So I re-found my copy of Einstein's Quiz a few days ago, and being bored, tackled it and solved it roughly an hour, give or take several units of time.

 

I thought about posting the link, but I figure someone would cheat, which is lame, so no dice. If you do solve it, use spoiler tags, I guess, so as not to ruin it for others.

 

There are 5 houses in five different colors. In each house lives a person with a different nationality. These five owners drink a certain drink, smoke a certain brand of cigar, and keep a certain pet no owners have the same pet, smoke the same brand of cigar or drink the same drink. The question is --- who owns the fish?

 

Hints:

 

- the Brit lives in the red house

- the Swede keeps dogs as pets

- the Dane drinks tea

- the green house is on the left of the white house

- the green house owner drinks coffee

- the person who smokes Pall Mal rears birds

- the owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill

- the man living in the house right in the center drinks milk

- the Norwegian lives in the first house

- the man who smokes Blends lives next to the one who keeps cats

- the man who keeps horses lives next to the one who smokes Dunhill

- the owner who smokes Blue Master drinks beer

- the German smokes Prince

- the Norwegian lives next to the blue house

- the man who smokes Blend has a neighbor who drinks water

Crap... I put the Brit in the wrong place and messed up the whole thing. I got the first two houses correct though. I should have re-checked before looking for the answer.

Three hours of frustration and I finally got it. Took me a while to realize I misread a line that made me place the Dane and the Swede in the wrong positions, thus leading to the frustration.
