The Bank Shot - July 9, 2005

With the tidbits on the tv deal, radio show, video game, and international alliances; this turned out to be a fairly interesting read. Of course it was really the Super X Cup news that had me excited. I'm not too crazy about it being a #1 contender's tournament this year though. Hopefully they'll still do the trophy thing.

Welcome to the news and notes this week in TNA Wrestling courtesy of The Bank Shot…

TNA’s three-hour No Surrender is quickly approaching next Sunday, July 17 live and exclusively on Pay-Per-View. The lineup will be finalized on Friday’s Impact, and the talk of a “new talent” for TNA possibly debuting at the show has been creating a buzz. Matches announced thus far are:

NWA World Heavyweight Title: Steel Chain Dog Collar Match – Raven vs. Abyss w/ James Mitchell

X Division Championship: The Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels vs. Team Canada Captain Petey Williams

The Phenomenal AJ Styles vs. Sean Waltman

Special Referee: Jerry Lynn

America’s Most Wanted vs. Michael Shane and Alex Shelley

Samoa Joe vs. Chris Sabin

Plus, more matches to be announced including The Alpha Male Monty Brown, NWA World Tag Team Champions The Naturals, Lance Hoyt, 3Live Kru, Team Canada and others.

This Friday’s final Impact before No Surrender on TNAwrestling.com will feature the following matches:

Sonny Siaki and Apolo vs. Simon Diamond and Trytan

The Outlaw and The Alpha Male vs. The Truth and Konnan

TNA X Division Champion The Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels and Samoa Joe vs. Team Canada’s Petey Williams and Eric Young

Shocker vs. Sonjay Dutt

Plus, The Phenomenal AJ Styles teams with his No Surrender opponent Sean Waltman to face Team Canada’s Bobby Roode and A1

Plus, more matches will be announced for the No Surrender Pay-Per-View

This Tuesday, July 12, Jeff Jarrett will be answering fan questions in the Impact Community Message Board area. A special chat will be set up with Jarrett where the star will answer questions live. For more info, visit the Impact Community.

Starting at No Surrender, the TNA “Impact Zone” at Soundstage 21 at Universal Orlando Resort will have a new look. In addition to new seating and expanded capacity, there will be a new entrance set. Over the next few months fans will see several new additions and changes to the Impact Zone.

Two days after No Surrender, TNA returns to the Impact Zone in Orlando on Tuesday, July 19 for another round of tapings. Immediately following the tapings, the TNA stars will sign autographs and take pictures with fans in the arena.

We are just about finished with the new TNA Canada site, which is set to debut on the website in a few weeks. The new site will feature information on TNA’s programs on RDS Sports and ESPN Classic Canada, as well as bios and photos of Team Canada and much more. There will also be monthly columns by Scott D’Amore and Johnny Devine, as well as columns in French by TNA RDS announcers Marc Blondin and wrestling veteran Pierre Carl Ouellet.

TNA is happy to announce the addition of television director/producer Michael Vettor to the company. Vettor will team with longtime TNA director Keith Mitchell to head up the television production side of the promotion. In addition to directing sporting events for ESPN, Fox and ABC, Vettor also headed up Pay-Per-Views for ECW. Michael is well-respected by many in the TV business and is yet another great addition to TNA.

Speaking of new additions to TNA, the next few months should be extremely exciting in TNA…perhaps starting next Sunday at No Surrender.

The acclaimed “Super X Cup Tournament” will be making its return to TNA in the upcoming weeks, with the finals to be held at the August "Sacrifice" Pay-Per-View to earn a shot at the X Division Championship. More details and an official announcement will be made at No Surrender. The first Super X Tournament was a huge hit in 2003, and many fans have written in asking about another. The first Super X Tournament, which Chris Sabin won, is available on TNA’s “Ultimate X” DVD.

With our new DVD distribution deal, fans should start seeing TNA DVDs in major retailers in time for Christmas. We are nearing completion of the Lockdown DVD, then up next will be a “Best of the X Division” DVD, Volume 2. I’ve put together the initial lineup, and right now it stands at 17 matches featuring AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Chris Sabin, Michael Shane, Petey Williams, Sonjay Dutt and many others. The DVD will feature the Ultimate X, the crazy X Gauntlet from Victory Road, the epic AJ/Daniels feud, the “Xscape Match” from Lockdown and much more.

Several more big announcements are on the horizon, including the much-anticipated television deal, major clearance in Europe as well as possible details on a TNA video game.

We are still in the planning stages for an online radio show on TNAwrestling.com, the details of which Jeremy Borash has been working on. Wrestling fans may remember that Borash, along with Bob Ryder, were the hosts of the old WCW Live.

Terry Taylor has been doing quite a bit of traveling in recent weeks, meeting with several international promotions looking to work with TNA Wrestling. Taylor finally returned home a few days ago for some much-needed rest and relaxation. As soon as any deals are finalized with these groups we’ll announce them here on the website first.

That’s it for this week – enjoy Friday’s Impact on the website

Bill Banks

Wow. No Surrender actually has a pretty fucking good-looking card. First TNA PPV I actually WANT to order since they switched from weekly to monthly shows.

Fuck yeah, Super X Cup is coming back, smart move while they are dark to do this, as this is definately a thing catered to the IWC audience. Impact shows leading up to the Aug ppv should be very solid.

Me thinks Hardy and Rhyno show up next Sunday...

The Outlaw and The Alpha Male vs. The Truth and Konnan

I can't believe that I would ever, EVER be EXCITED for this match, but with the build-up it's gotten I am. I'm kind of surprised that they're doing it on Impact instead of the PPV too.

And since the contract bullshit's been revealed to be false, damn. I want to see this PPV. I mean, I actually care about the angles and such for the first time since 2003.
