Was it just me....or did RVD not get that big of a pop upon "winning" the undisputed title?

I really really really liked what I saw on RAW tonight. Because they tried something different. For myself, it worked. I'm diggng whoever wrote the show tonight.

Best WWE RAW ever.

There's nothing wrong with wrestlers that are considered main eventers wrestling over the IC title. During the glory days of the IC it wasn't uncommon to see a guy on the main event level wrestling for it.

Don't look at it as them lowering Austin just look at it as them elevating Eddy and the IC title.

i not so much looking at it as a de-elevation, but the "glory days" of the IC title are a long way in the past my friend, and it would take austin being willing to hold the belt for a lengthy period of time against all challengers to really elevate it, not a short fued with eddy.  but in this situation, and with the title on 'taker, you run the risk of the IC being more over than the undisputed belt.

If the plan is Austin vs. Eddy I'd expect to see Austin cost Eddy the IC belt on Raw next week to someone (since Austin can't wrestle, he'll have to do this to get revenge on Eddy)...and then Eddy will ask Flair to let Austin wrestle at the ppv.

That way Austin won't be in an IC match...and they'll add more heat.

That's how I'd book it.

rvd elevated, raven on raw, ecw everywhere, could the "heyman effect" be hitting wwe programing already.  because if raw tonight and smackdown tomorrow are anything like what you guys are hyping raw as, i'll be really excited.

who do you give the IC belt to? RVD was practically the only midcard face, and booker the only heel really on a level with rvd/eddy, so there is really nobody to give it to (although they could take the regal path and just put spike dudley over eddy :().  but apart from that, its a really awesome, logical idea.

Yes the IC title hasn't really been a good belt for awhile now. But does that mean that they shouldn't ever try to repair it and make it somewhat important agane? Giving Eddy and Austin a IC fued that lasts for 2 or 3 PPVs would give the IC title back some of its luster.

Remember we have all been screaming for WWeee to give something different. So honestly lets not complain when they give us something new that is also good. If the new was Big Show vs. Austin and Undertaker vs. Nash then i'd agree with complaining.

RVD finally elevated to Main Event status even if just on the raw brand

Raw with Eddie can be good but for godsake not for the IC title what did Austin do to HHH to piss him off so much

Brock is finally moving on to a one on one fued guess that Duddly V Duddly fued is off for now

Can someone tell me if Smackdown is going to be in Texas cuz then with all this re-hash booking Taker will lose the title to Hogan

i *really* cant see austin willing to work 3 ppv's (2 at absolute most) in an essentially midcard angle.  and sure it would give the title lustre, but they cant just swap the title between them (ala edge-regal), and austin has to show he cares about the belt -> and he hasnt shown himself to really care about anything lately, so any fued i will take with a grain of salt.

hmmm...I'd bet it ends up on a Hardy...

That may be a good thing...since them being a team on a show without the tag titles is stupid.

And they can be singles without feuding...which is key.

Maybe MAtt gets the IC belt because Jeff already had it.

Hey...they are over.

To clarify the RVD pop controversy:  when he came out initially during the Taker beatdown, the crowd was going nuts.  The angle went over big time.  Then later on for the match itself the crowd was dead as hell due to the friggin karaoke skits and a lot of lame wrestling.

I was all set to cream my pants over RVD winning the title, but then they did the god damn Dusty Finish.  Whatever good feelings I had about this show evaporated.  What a shitty week so far....my favorite wrestler of all time dies and my favorite wrestler today jobs via the Dusty Finish.  Mind you, the two hardly compare but an RVD title win would have certainly improved my dreary mindset after Bulldog's death.

I hope this show does a good rating though, so maybe they'll put the title on RVD at the PPV or something.  They've Dusty finished him twice now if you count the Jericho match earlier this year.  Incidentally, in that match Flair HELPED RVD and tonight he cost him the title (even though he was right).

I gotta be honest, I really liked this episode of RAW. I can honestly say that I haven't been able to say that in a long long time! It just really clicked, and if they can actually stick to their guns on these pushes for the younger guys and not drop the ball like they did with the Hardyz (when they were feuding with Austin & HHH in early 2001) then I'll be a happy camper.

For those complaining about the rolling thunder getting the pin...

1.  RVD has to win with something other than the Five Star once in a while.  This is exactly why I dug the finishes to RVD-Eddy and Edge-Angle atJudgment Day...if the end comes out of nowhere, it's easier to pop for everything, not just the high spots.

2.  The frog splash, by nature, has to be done in the middle of the ring, so Taker would have had to roll toward the ropes and expose the finish even more than the finish they went with would have.

In retrospect, although the Dusty finish pissed me off, maybe they're trying to give the title credibility after all.  My biggest gripe with Kurt Angle's last reign was that Austin was so clearly in the ropes that it ruined whole feud for me.  They'd better pay his one off though and not flounder it like they did with Jericho's phantom reign (or the RVD-Jericho title feud that went nowhere).

I'd have been seriously pissed if RVD had won the title tonight(I pretty much knew he wasn't, but still), so thank god he didn't.

Austin/Eddy made me happier than I've been in weeks with the RAW show.

Kevin Nash should die. Painfully.

Regal/Buh-Buh for the Euro title was the dumbest thing ever and an obvious set-up for the Brock run-in. What the hell happened to D'Lo? Get the Euro belt off of Regal NOW.

Why are they stringing Booker along like this? TURN HIM, DAMMIT!

I think we all know how to fix the problem.  Fire Steph, Triple H, and Nash.  Problem solved.

Kinda. Since Rob himself sells the impact, UT could easily roll towards the rope while selling the splash. He actually did very well tonight putting RVD over, albeit without actually losing. Still, Kudos to taker.

All I got to see was part of the Lawler match through the end but I liked what I saw a lot.  I knew the Dusty finish was coming the whole match so I popped less than I normally would have with the "win".  If only RVD hooked the far leg...

I thought Raw was very good tonight.

I saw that RVD/Taker finish coming from the moment they announced the match, but kudos to the WWF for actually going through with it. The only thing I didn't like was "Evil" Ric Flair coming out to reverse the decision. I think that would've been just as effective had one of the referees done it. But I'm not complaining.

I like the Austin/Eddie program, and hopefully this leads to a match at KOTR for the title. I can't see the WWE putting the belt on Austin, but still it'd be a great match that would do a lot to elevate Eddie and the title itself.

Only things I didn't like about Raw was Ric Flair completely forgetting that ass kicking Taker gave he and his son a couple of months back, and I would've liked to see an nWo attack towards the end of the show. Anybody would've been good.

In all honesty, I think when RVD actually pinned Taker, they probably saw Flair walking to the ring knowing their cheers were useless. If RVD would have pinned Taker again then you would have heard a much larger pop

I think the finish to the Taker vs. RVD match did something for RVD that few other wrestlers get these days, which is a reason for the fans to "rally behind him." Rather than winning out of nowhere, RVD gained huge fan support because they felt he was screwed, much like Jericho's "win" against HHH over two years ago. The fans will watch with great interest the next time RVD gets a title shot.

My only complaint about the match and the storyline is that RVD gets a title shot despite jobbing in the IC title match the night before. That's like failing basic math and moving on to Calculus.

One more thing, shouldn't Hogan be on RAW now that Taker beat him?

It's probably because people weren't expecting it. I was thinking at the onset of the show that RVD might win tonight, but I found myself waiting for the bullshit after he won the match. I was on the phone or most of the show and I looked up to see RVD as the WWF champion. I figured it was too good to be true. Why would the WWF do something that makes sense? I turn my television to something else whenever Undertaker gets the mic. Now I get to do it twice as much since he's the champ.

Vince: At Backlash, HHH will defend the title against HOLLYWOOD HULK HOGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was a Smackdown! Huck is a Smackdown type of guy! No RAW for him! Smackdown it is!

I think the WWF did it to get Flair over as a heel more than he already is.

"Flair screws one of the top guys in the company?!  FUCK HIM!!"  A WWE fan is likely to say that.

Plus, in the opening, UT got over HUGE as a heel... more than he's been in like... 3-4 months.

Raw established Flair and UT as heels in one night... just because they screw RVD.  That shows that a) the WWE is finally learnning and b) fans care about RVD.

Well, not if you look at it differently:

RVD was suppose to have a match (against WHO, DAMNIT?!) and was attacked by UT.  RVD had no beef with UT, UT basically started it.  RVD kicks UT's ass, and now UT is pissed.  UT is SO pissed that he wants with RVD... TONIGHT!  Flair made it a title match because.... uhh... to sweeten the pot, I guess.  *shrugs*

And Hogan was of the Smackdown brand before he won the title, so after he lost it I'm guessing he'll return back there.

Well Damn, I liked RAW and there isn't really much else to say that you guys haven't already.

EXCEPT!!!!!!! Anyone else notice they said next Tuesday the WWE (Smackdown Taping) is at Calgery, Canada? If there was EVER a guarantied place you could have Benoit make his return to a monster POP it would be here. Maybe, they announce it this Thursday on Smackdown, Benoit will return next week. Good week of build up!

It's good to see all the positive reaction to RAW on the board; I watched it last night and it felt like a breath of fresh air compared to the last couple crappy episodes.

So this morning I go to the Torch's website and the feedback is overwhelmingly negative... what's up wit' dat?

So good to see new storylines!

UT-RVD

Eddy-Austin

Brock-Bubba

nWo-Hollywood Suckaz (love it!)

You know what was great?

Nash and Goldust being around to do promos and have characters, but not wrestle.

I love these two guys on the mic and in vignettes, and tonight they did a great job of providing support character work and stringing it all together.  Keep them out of the ring or just have them be the occasional tag partner, and the WWE has some damn good storytellers to take advantage of out there.

That's another thing that pisses me off about them, especially Lillian Garcia. Why don't they ever announce the provinces along with the cities? That hussie always says "Toronto, Canada", never "Toronto, Ontario". The other announcers do it right all the time (Fink, the other guy), so why can't she? Do we say "Dallas, USA" or "Miami, USA"?

Dumbass.

Either that or Lance Storm starts a damn good push.

Either on would please me.
