For the fight people here, there will be three live boxing cards on cable tv this week.

Tonight on ESPN2 - Undefeated lt welter prospect Lamont Peterson (11-0) in his biggest fight so far against journeyman Miguel Angel Torresillas (16-4-1). Also, Ann Wolfe, the woman scheduled to fight a man in a couple months will be fighting a girl who once got tkod by Laila Ali.

Thursday on Fox Sports Best Damn Sports Show - Sam Soliman (30-7) the IBF's #1 contender for Jermain Taylors new middleweight title will meet veteran Fernando Zuniga (23-7). Also, Vassily Jirov (35-3) fights 20 year pro Orlin Norris (57-9) in a battle of former cruiserweight champs.

Friday Night Fights on ESPN2 - Art Simonyan (14-1) comes off a ko loss to fight former champ Agapito Sanchez (34-11-3) for some sort of super-bantam belt. Ireland's John Duddy (10-0) vs. Patrick Coleman (29-11) in the ten round cofeature. If theres time itll be undefeated heavyweights Malachy Farrell (9-0) vs. Giuseppe Kidd (3-0). The legendary Pernell Whitaker will be live in-studio.

Not the best matchups ever but at least its 6 hours of free boxing in 5 days. :)

Lamont Peterson flows like wine in the ring. He wasnt in there with a top guy or anything but it was a big step up for Peterson, and he completely dominated the fight. Lamont won something like 5 national amateur championships and is now 12-0 in the pros.

I watched that fight. The guy has a world of potential, and just needs to work on getting a punch that can really hurt people. With the right people in his corner, and successively more difficult opponents, he'll go places. His brother's fighting this friday, I think they said.

The women's fight was very sloppy and dull. Nunez went in totally outmatched for the third fight in a row, leading to her being stopped for the third fight in a row. Her handlers need to get a clue. This was the poor chick's 13th professional fight, and she's going in against the top fighters in women's boxing.

The undercard last night was pretty weak...the womens match wasn't much, and the opener with a 270 pound all-fatass was sad. But Peterson looked pretty sweet and Im sure he'll be on tv again this year at least once.

Tomorrow nights FSN card is, at the very least, compelling due to the two matches being pretty equal. Norris hasnt had a big win since God knows when but hes a good test for falling Jirov. Soliman has earned a middleweight shot sometime soon and he'll have an opportunity to prove it on tv against a competent opponent. Should be interesting...hopefully the Best Damn cast doesnt waste too much time with their nonsense.

Sam Soliman looked pretty good in the 108 degree heat, but I dont think has much of a chance against Jermain Taylor.

Norris-Jirov on the undercard tonight was entertaining enough. Its probably about time for Jirov to consider retirement.

Quick notes on tonights ESPN2 card...

Art Simonyan (IBF #9) vs. Agapito Sanchez (IBF #10) is for the minor USBA title. The winner will likely fight IBF champ Israel Vasquez in their next fight or two. Vasquez is the only man to beat Simonyan so far.

Clinton Boldridge (3-3) has replaced Giuseppe Kidd. If this fight does get shown, expect a quick ko for Malachy Farrell.

I'm also interested in seeing Irish John Duddy stepping up against token journeyman Pat Coleman. Coleman can knock people out (20 in 29 wins), which will be a nice litums test to see if Duddy can take it as well as dish it out. Duddy has yet to lose and has KthefuckOed 9 of 10.

Im looking forward to the Duddy fight as well. Ive never seen him but hopefully we get another Ward/Hatton-esque guy on American tv.

My prediction from this week -

Both Lamont Peterson and John Duddy will fight for world championships one day.
