Disneyland's 50th

Recommended Posts

So this past Sunday I was amongst the 70,000 plus people who flooded Disneyland to celebrate the parks 50th anniversary of its dedication. The ceremony was pretty cool, when Michael Eisner was intro'd the crowd went milder than during a McMahon segment after a MOTN on a PPV. Also I rode the newly refurbed Space Mountain and it's pretty swank.

The new Space Mountain looks to be amazing (I live in MD so like I'd ever get near it) but the idea of the loading dock "rotating" in space among alot of the other new stylistic and decor elements (the blackest paint they could find ON EVERYTHING to make it seem like you really are floating) seems to me to have broughten the ride up from the hellhole it had been in the past decade or so with much better coasters on Disney property, let alone throughout the US and the World.

I was there yesterday. It actually didn't seem too crowded, but then again I like big crowds. Space Mountain was by far the longest wait, up to 90 minutes in the afternoon, compared to 40 or so for most other rides. I just got a Fastpass for it in the morning. There's no more red dot shining in your eyes, either.

There weren't many people at California Adventure, compared to Disneyland, of course. I don't think it's as bad as The Simpsons made it out to be, though. Some rides are sort of rip-offs of Knott's Berry Farm.

There's a pretty funny video near the entrance of the park about the history of Disneyland hosted by Steve Martin, too.
