RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2005 My computer is freezing at random moments. Sometimes I can go an hour, sometimes I can go 2 minutes. The screen itself doesn't freeze - say I'm downloading a file: the file will continue to dl until completion even if I can't use my mouse or keyboard (which has me thinking it could be a problem with my mouse/keyboard). It will also fuck up/freeze randomly for a few seconds and then continue along on its merry way. I've deleted most files and programs that I think would give me problems, and I've done a regular systems check. The computer is about 5 years old and is running on Windows ME. Wuddoido? Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2005 do you have anything Norton running? Like Internet Security or AntiVir? If you do, try alternatives and get that crap off your PC. to help us find the problem you could use hijackthis* and post the logfile here. Using Windows ME is a problem in itself btw. *http://www.snapfiles.com/get/hijackthis.html
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2005 Norton expired a while ago and I was using AVG, but I deleted it a week or so ago. WinME certainly has not been kind to me over the past 5 years, though my patience has grown because of it I'll give Hijack a try, but I don't think its any program thats running because, really, there's only about 5 programs running right now and most -I believe- are the regular programs. Anywho, here ya go. Thanks for any help possible. the max 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2005 This may sound stupid, but have you cleaned your mouseball and keyboard or checked their ports on your computer? There might be a build up of gunk in the mouseball or the plug might be loose.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2005 Yeah, I fiddled with the plug ins and whatnot, and I clean my balls regularly.

Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2005 the log looks fine. could be a hardware problem. have you checked if any cords, RAMs, PCI or AGP cards have come loose? or maybe your processor is overheating, you should be able to check the CPU temperature in your BIOS (press DEL at startup). ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2005 Yeah, I don't see anything too suspicious in the log file. Though there are programs and stuff there that I'm not familiar with. You say you've had the computer for 5 years? If you havn't changed Hard Drives in that time, it seems like you could be well on the road to a dead one. Any wierd noises? or maybe your processor is overheating, you should be able to check the CPU temperature in your BIOS (press DEL at startup). That's good advice right there. The next time your comp freezes immediatly reset it and check the temperature. Could be that the heat sink has come off a little bit or something. But it's more likely it's a dying Hard Drive than that I think. and I clean my balls regularly. That's...............good......
