Smackdown/Christian rumors

Recommended Posts

Credit: PWInsider.com Elite Audio

- Some SmackDown! workers have expressed their concern over the future of the brand.

- Many are worried that when the deal with SmackDown! and UPN ends in September 2006, it could spell the end of the brand altogether.

- All the signs point to the fact that UPN seems to have no long-term plan to keep SmackDown! on its network. The show will be given an awful time slot and will suffer from pre-emptions.

- SmackDown! workers have stated that Christian is very aware that the proverbial rug has been pulled from under him by WWE.

- Christian was said to be very happy a few months back when it seemed WWE would be pushing him as a main-eventer, however his feelings have now changed and while he isn't being a bad employee over it, he is said to be upset at how things have turned out.

- Christian was of course cleanly pinned in his first match on SmackDown! and lost to Booker T at the Great American Bash this past Sunday when the 5-time WCW champion had no momentum going into the match.

- On SmackDown! worker stated that Christian is just "one of them now" after realizing his push is going nowhere.

On the bright side, if he decides to quit (not that anyone is saying he might), at least he knows he can always use his in-ring name. Not only was he using it before he signed, but I'd imagine it'd be pretty hard for Vince to legally keep anyone from calling themselves that. :D

The irony of this is that I actually posted that I thought Christian was happier in WWE than Booker T was recently. Of course, it's obvious now as to why Christian is upset (losing to Booker T on PPV, who hasn't done much for a while, can probably do that).

Unfortunately I expected this to happen. They have never really liked Christian as a main eventer. I don't understand why they like Edge better than him. Edge's wrestling skills is comparable to Christian's in terms of "exciting!!!!" offense and Christian definitely trumps Edge on the mic. Change places between Christian and Edge and you get a guy on Raw that is an ok wrestler with great mic skills, which would be badly needed in the push leading up to the MITB shot.

According to the W-L thread, he's 4-20 this year. Some push.

I almost wish they hadn't done anything with him this year. Instead, they got my hopes up and dashed them on the rocks.

If they turned him face (easy) and didn't cut his balls off (sounds impossible for WWE, but they could write it) he could be a great, great addition to Raw in the near future. Raw could use a few more faces.

They'll never do that though, and he'll be wrestling the house show circuit against Scotty 2 Hotty.

It seems like whenever someone gets themselves over, the creative team responds by either burying them or giving them nothing to do. For all the talk of "stepping up" and "working hard", the company only seems to reward people they've (often incorrectly) pre-determined will get over no matter what.

This has been a universal truth since VKM bought the company. The only top guy that I can think of that got over by himself was Steve Austin. I could be persuaded to add Foley, but that's it.

Fucking typical. I really thought that Christian might end up getting a main event run and/or a title this year. Don't WWE understand that the time is now as far as pushing Christian is concerned? Oh, that's right only guys WWE says will get over can get over. If guys try themselves they let them build up some momentum and then bury them. Silly me.

Fuck WWE and UPN.

Exactly. Just ask RVD.

Also, Chris Benoit and Shelton Benjamin prove that hard work unfortunately doesn't pay off in WWE (coincidentally enough, Benoit was telling the truth back in 2000 in his promo during his feud with HHH) and they'll get jobbed out either to Orlando Jordan, Chris Masters, or Carlito.

I think you are right. I was just remembering how Cena was made a jobber for most of 2003 after his rapper gimmick took off. You might be able to argue that Rock got himself over, but he had been pushed to the moon before his gimmick change. I think Mankind got a good push at first, since he was in a high profile feud with Undertaker right from the start.

Austin, Rock and Foley are the lone exceptions, and two of those guys were two of the three biggest draws ever. You would think Vince would get the hint and start listening to the fans more...you would think.

Even Rock isn't really an exception, because the office was behind him from the get-go. He wasn't some guy stuck wrestling pre-PPV matches against Yokozuna at any point.

Anyway...it's crystal clear by now that the bookers book for Vince and Vince only.

Smackdown! should be interesting tonight. God I hope it's not all GAB rematches because I already had to sit through that in the crowd live. At least Velocity should be solid.

The only recent examples of guys who got pushed based on getting over with the crowd were Eddy Guerrero last year and Batista this year. Neither guy seemed to be getting much of a push at first, especially Batista who was stuck down the card putting over Orton on his way to HHH.

It might be worth it if the change all the finishes, though. :D

Eh, I think they always had something in mind with Batista. They were just forced into pushing him because Orton's heat died a quick death once he was tossed from Evolution. If you note Batista finished 4th in the 2003 Royal Rumble for no discernable reason.

Eddie was someone who got pushed because he was flat out 10x better than anything else on the show. I mean so glaringly brilliant that anyone with a brain had to notice.

I think Eddie got over before he was really pushed. I don't think his push really started until his summer 2003 feud with Cena.

I think Batista got himself over, but being in Evolution for a year or so prior to that certianly helped. Batista was Evolution's least prominent member for a long time.

Does anybody think the resistance to Christian (a heel) getting into the main event has anything to do with 4 out of 4 of the most politically powerful guys on the roster are now heels? HHH, JBL, Angle, and HBK (technically a heel) are probably the four guys with the most backstage pull. I'm not usually into conspiracy theories, but this coincidence is a little too striking to ignore.

Eh- Taker has more stroke then JBL, Angle and HBK, and he is uber face. I see your point, but 3/4 of those guys are on a different show.

I'll never understand why a company would repeatedly make bad business decisions such as this in order to stroke its own ego. Never.

They should have put Shelton or Jericho on SD instead of Christian. The Christian/Cena feud was hinted at for so long and we never really got it. Stupid fucking WWE.

An update from the guys from lordsofpain

We reported earlier here at LoP that Christian is very aware of the fact about his push being taken away and is showing the effects backstage. Reports from backstage indicate that Christian is still very professional and takes his job very seriously, although many workers do not understand why the decision was made due to the fact that Christian was doing everything right and many are blaming creative for dropping the ball once again.

Does Vince even care that most of the roster seems to be unhappy? It's like he doesn't care whether ot not the company does bad, as long as he's entertained.

What the fuck are they going to do without Smackdown. I mean their 2nd brand could be cancelled forever, and all you guys care about is Christian getting a push. Christian might not even have a job if Smackdown is cancelled.
