Kevin Nash weighs in on the Hogan&HBK match..

Recommended Posts

HHH is one of the best promos they have.  The problem comes with him going on for 10 minutes when he only needed 2.

I really don't understand how this is true. I can't think of one great promo this guy has ever done. He drones on because he has nothing interesting to say.

Well let's see: He is very smooth talking - no stuttering, no awkward pauses -, he can shift levels very well and is able to talk for long periods of time which makes it seem more natural than the rehearsed crap that frequents the program. There aren't many in the WWE that are better, so therefore he's one of the best they have. His promo on Batista with the chair in the ring was fantastic - if not completely self-serving and the equivalent of jerking off on the mic.

Plus: "I guess Goldberg makes mics now, because this one can't work".

And please don't make me defend HHH anymore, I feel so dirty.

He's bound to be smooth talking considering he's been on top for years and always seems to get the same 20 minute promo spot on Raw every week. He's simply gotten used to it. Anybody can learn through repetition and that, in my mind, does not make him a great promo guy. No doubt his promos sound more natural becuase he probably comes up with them himself instead of having them written for him by some Hollywood hack.

Well of course he delivers one of their best promos. When you spend year after year delivering the exact same interview almost verbatim, odds are, you'll eventually get it right.

Really, then what happened to Cena and JBL? They repeat themselves way more than HHH does and they're nowhere near as entertaining.

Well, that's debateable. I like Cena's interviews a whole lot more because he actually gets the crowd involved and seems excited on the mic. Granted, they should cut down his mic time, as they should for everyone.

JBL, I agree. The guy is actually worse than Triple H in repeating himself. And he gets so much time on the mic...

Hm, seems the underlining theme is too much mic time. Huh, well there you go.

I like how WWE.com is trying to have more of an edge. Sure, maybe it doesn't appeal to some of us necessarly, but it does to the wannabe smarks, which is a big percentage. Ya know, guys and gals who know what a heel and face are, and know of Matt getting screwed, but don't really read the Observer and stuff like that.

I think one of the intregral parts of a good promo man is not boring people by going to long and to be short and sweet when necc.

That would be like me saying that Such and Such is a great worker, if only he would stop sucking ass at selling. Well, selling is part of being a great worker.

I think HHH is a fantastic talker, and that shows in his backstage skits. But his promo lack a major component to be considered anything other than average.

I bet HHH fans like HHH's promos. If you were to make a list of what a "great promo" is, I bet HHH would have most of the bases covered. Your personal preference is another story. I, for the most part, don't like his promos either, but I can put that aside and recognize how good of a speaker he is.

Nah...Cena is ok, but when he says something and the crowd doesn't react, he feels like he's failed, so he says something even LOUDER than before. It sounds REALLY forced and is obvious he's going for a reaction, and he'll keep talking louder and faster until he gets one.

JBL is horrible.

Triple H is a great speaker, but like Rudo said, they just give him WAY too much time. He does speak clearly, has good timing, ect. HBK is a guy I think isn't given enough credit to promo-wise as well.

So great promo guys are guys who do not get better through time and who don't come up with their own promos?

Wuhzuh?

Sure they are.

However, Triple H just comes out and says the same thing every week. He may change the name of who he's feuding with but he basically says the same thing, that he's the best and he's gonna be champion. Repeating the same promo for years doesn't make a good a promo guy.

By the way, does anyone but Triple H get to do their own promos? Except maybe big names like Micheals etc...

Pretty much all of the top guys that they have confidence in on the mic get to cut their own unwritten promos but even they may get a scripted line once in a while.

Austin and Rock usually cut their own promos with minor scripting. Ditto for Foley, Hogan.etc.

HBK has been very scripted recently because he has been dying on promos until Mon.

Orton, Batista are definitely scripted fully.

HHH, JBL, and Angle usually cut their own promos. An example of this was Angle's first night back on RAW. It had minor scripting but was basically those 2 doing their thing.

Cena is scripted but usually cut his own promos as well.

Anyone not on top is totally scripted.

A lot of fans have said over the years that HHH goes far too long on hos promos and fans tend to get very dead whne he talks over a certian amount of time. Now I hate his promos because he (like JBL) becuase he repeats himself and is lazy in his content. But thats my personal prefrence. His length of promos has always been a problem for him.

I really liked his time on the Highlight Reel with Eugene. "Yeah, sign right there, on the naked lady's BUTT". :headbang:

JBL, I agree. The guy is actually worse than Triple H in repeating himself. And he gets so much time on the mic...

I put her on a pedestal for so long and she finally did it to me. . .

JBL is fantastic, hearing him talk is great. I love it when he looks to the sky, closes his eyes and says: "But there is only 1 WRESTLING GOD" and scews his face up. You cant learn that, thats pure talent.

HBK is a guy I think isn't given enough credit to promo-wise as well.

Yes, I think he is. He doesnt normally take that long to get to point, until recently. One of his which sticks out is the one with Coach and HHH before their Last Man Standing match at RR 03. "Lets get rid of the WWE furniture, shall we?"

I think Jericho and Guerrero are unscripted ya know.
