Campaign 2008

Recommended Posts

Interesting thing I caught on C-SPAN just now. Hillary Clinton just ripped George Bush--rightfully so--for claiming he'd be a uniter not a divider, strive for unity, reach out across party lines, all that jazz. Why are we supposed to believe Barack Obama, or anyone else, when he says the same old unity shit?

For starters, Obama probably won't fill his administration with vindictive hacks like Dick Cheney and Richard Perle or do dumb, divisive shit like invade Iraq or authorize torture/illegal wiretapping.

Do you expect politicians to pledge to be divisive?

John McCain bustin' out the big guns, trying to turn out the youth vote:

I'll just avoid the obvious "Diabeetus" joke and mention he was great in "The Thing"

No, I expect them to trot out the same lies, and I expect everyone to recognize them as such.

You're not being very bipartisan, Mr. Mock-Czech-In-My-Subtitle.

Hahaha. Question in the GOP debate: "why wouldn't you vote for Barack Obama?"

I hope they just go "you know what, I don't fuckin' know why not. I would!"

Hey, let's make sure to not ask Ron Paul anything.

Well, George Bush has done a pretty good job of making it easier to buy. Really, he's fucked up so many things that I--and many others--will absolutely swallow anything the opposition party wants to pour for me. It works out nicely here since the opposition happens to like most of the same things I do, but "unity!" works really well these dayys since most recent history has been of the "one-sided mania and national embarrassment!" variety.

We're citing the same event for different arguments. I'm getting "Bush was full of shit, and so is he" and the rest of the world is getting "Bush is full of shit but he isn't." George Bush's presidency is exactly why any promises of unity are empty rhetoric. I just can't believe so many people are willing to fall for it. He's just a liberal Democrat. He's not reaching out to me. That's bullshit.

I don't see why George Bush's uniquely awful/divisive tenure as President should be used as an example to prove anything other than the fact that George Bush is/was an awful and divisive President. Just because Obama uses rhetoric that's sort of similar in tone to that used by Bush eight years ago doesn't necessarily mean that he's also going to govern similarly.

Because that rhetoric is garbage, it always has been, and it always will be, and heretofore, we've recognized this, but for this handsome young baritone, we're buying it, and it baffles me. Well, not "we," because I've never bought into this whole act, not from day one. If the Illinois Republican Party could tell its ass from a hole in the ground and nominate a marginally competent opponent for the Senate seat in '04--we're talking Mike Fucking Ditka here, for Christ's sake--rather than a nutjob like Alan Keyes, this guy would be a fucking footnote. Mike Ditka would've won that race, which is sad but true. He'd take the otherwise reliably conservative votes downstate, the conservative north/northwest/western suburbs, and enough working-class meatballs who would be dumb enough to think Mike Ditka would actually be a good senator.

How does Ron Paul not suffer a stroke (or start laughing hysterically) when dealing with his creepy, naive dipshit opponents?

Yeah, he's a hell of a guy for sitting through that whole "Ronald Reagan supported amnesty with a fine/a fine is not amnesty" sequence with Rudy and not slapping the taste out of his mouth.

Did he get to take a swing at ol' Mitt? The other four did. It's bad enough he's a total whore, but when he had to beg everyone to stop hurting him with mean words, that was pathetic. I halfway felt bad for him.

The next generation of Romney is scheduled to completely embarass itself in 2048. With claiming to be brainwashed & saying any bullshit imaginable both already taken, Romney III will end up being caught fucking a turtle.

Obama has surged ahead in at least two New Hampshire polls I've seen today.

John McCain is right, the surge is working.
