Good article about TNA on Spike

Recommended Posts

...yes. He hated the show they taped for it, so he debuted by telling anybody watching that wasn't an ECW fan beforehand (all three people that just finished watching Dukes of Hazzard) how many HUGE names honed their craft in ECW. It was a good selling point, actually.

I thought the deal was the first taping went great, but TNN objected to some of the content - more in particularly the triple or double flaming table spot the Duds did to Spike, I believe. They didnt have time to tape another show in time, so they did that highlight hour for the first show as a backup plan. Plus between that time and the time they taped the show at the Manhatten Center, the whole thing with the Duds leaving to go to WWE was a reality, which wasnt the case on the first show they taped that got canned.

Actually, the flaming tables spot did air on the debut episode of ECW on TNN. In fact, it was the first thing shown.

They absolutely have to KILL this whole BG James/Gunn/3LK nonsense now. First of all, the crowd is not reacting the right way considering the angle. They just want to see the New Age Outlaws, they could not give 2 shits about James's inner conflict. And who can blame them? The matches resulting from this feud are shamefully bad, not to mention boring, and only reinforce the idea that TNA is a bad WCW.

Second, if you are going to run random 4-ways and 6-ways on PPVS, can we at least bring in the talent that can make them fucking awesome instead of plugging 4 green guys in there? Rod Strong, Jack Evans, Azriael, Deranged, Matt Sydal, El Generico, Kevin Steen, B-Boy, Homicide, Jimmy Jacobs, and others can actually turn these throwaway matches into spectacles that will wow the crowds, rather than 10 minutes of looking to see how Skipper and Red can shame the business this time around. It's mind boggling that TNA has access to all these incredibly athletic guys, many of which are far more talented than the throwaway guys they use now, but they choose not to use them. Can anyone explain why? Why not put your best foot forward? Or do they just not care?

Roderick Strong and Jack Evans need to be brought in as a team. The tag division in TNA is stale, it's the same matches over and over again, and these 2 can bring life to the division. Despite silly generalizations of Evans as a spot guy, he is a fountain of charisma, and knows how to work an audience very well. How many Naturals/Team Canada rehashed must we sit through?

For the love of god, do something meaningful with Sabin. I don't even think he is that great of a worker, but he's way over and works his ass off every time out there, only to be constantly jobbed. Let's see: Sabin is doing nothing. Shelley is doing nothing. Maybe they should be programmed together to have a series of good undercard matches on PPV. Yes, that would please everyone. This really isn't rocket science.

As far as other outside talent goes, I listed a ton of random talent for 6-ways and 4-ways above that could get way over. Hell, if they were smart they could form some sort of baby/heel faction feud among the spot guys in the X division, and give us a reason to care about the spotfests.

I think the key thing TNA needs to focus on is creating programs that will deliver in the ring when the time comes. Keep it to basic heel/face stuff outside of the main event, and take advantage of the vast athleticism advantage an unrestricted roster of indy guys has over WWE.

More athleticism, less nascar, less Billy Gunn, less idiotic sit down interviews, more wrestling, less 3LK, keep pushing Joe. If they do these things, it will be a viable alternative when it hits Spike. I don't know how this turned into such a rant, but my mind was on TNA after watching some stuff.

Before this get too out of hand with the "What TNA is doing wrong" line of thought...

I'd like to give a big shout out to what they are doing absolutely right at the moment:

Samoa Joe.

Seriously...they've taken talented guys like Shelley and made them GOLDYLOCK'S BITCH in the past. But Joe...they are making into a star...by...get this...lettting him friggin wrestle.

Now it's obviously not going to be the 20+ minute match...but then again...at Sacrifice it probably will be.

Samoa Joe has been used better than anyone TNA has used since they started. Including AJ who is more or less there golden boy.

Totally agree. Honestly, I'm fucking shocked, I was SURE they would blow it on Joe. I credit D'amore, who watches the indies and knows what Joe can do. Under the old crew...I can only imagine what Joe would be doing. They are making him into a total star.

The AJ match will tear the house down.

No, he'd probably have Joe and Sonny Siaki be "Samoan Jive Daddies '05" or something. Imagine them coming out to bad Spanish rap (because every non-black thug likes Spanish rap), dressing like 3 Minute Warning (purposefully, too), and doing the hand-waves like Public Enemy used to.
