Jericho2000Mark 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2005 The Orton program was Hunter's idea and his baby. Hunter doesn't let anyone write his stuff but Hunter. I've heard Meltzer say this as well, about the ideas for his fueds coming from him. If that's the case, then judging by his fueds for the last three years, he would make a terrible, terrible booker... For whoever said Heyman was responsible for WrestleMania XIX bombing, he was taken off creative before or a couple weeks after the Rumble that year, IIRC... Not to mention that neither Lesnar nor Angle were ever draws, while Hogan exausted his drawing power from his last run in the company and Vince was quite stale at that point. While on Raw, Triple H-Booker was an incredibly weak Title match on paper, Michaels has never been a draw and Jericho has never been given the chance to be one. Rock-Austin had been done to death and the window for a rematch from WrestleMania X-Seven had already closed when they didn't pull the trigger on a rematch at SummerSlam that same year. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2005 I definetly agree with the midget vs Vis comedy thing. I enjoyed it - it was something different. It was a fun little match that the crowd could enjoy without expecting these guys to bring psychology, spots, or meaning to the match (they couldn't even if they tried, so they didn't). How is psychologyless and meaningless matches "different"? I agree with the sentiment, though. The WWE should have more comedy matches - it adds variety to the shows. The only good part of the match -to me- was Pocket Rocket. One, I found the name clever for a second. Two, he had great facial expressions. Three, the aforementioned punching spot. The rest of the match wasn't good or funny at all and the finish fell flat. I remember reading about post-RAW matches, just for the live audience, that seem to incorporate this same kind of humor. They should really try to put some of that into their shows more often instead of having the same basic match four/five times a night with different workers involved. They did that after a RAW in Toronto last January. HHH/Flair vs. Batista/???. There was lots of comedy spots, the one standing out was HHH going off the middle rope to a downed opponent - the opponent puts up a leg and stuns HHH. HHH stands there dazed for at least a minute, maybe 2 or 3. Just when you think he's coming out of it - he flops.
Guest MikeSC Report post Posted July 31, 2005 I'm not convinced that Corny is the answer --- but I love that he actually focuses on details. He focuses on the things tat nobody seems to and that really need to be dealt with. For example, he had footage of either the Thrillseekers of The Fantastics being assaulted outside the arena. Unlike most companies, he actually tried to provide a plausible reason for a camera to 1) be there and 2) not help (a family is on vacation, see their favorite tag team, start taping them, and the attack happens). It's the small things that can really make a huge difference.

This is a perfect example of the laziness of creative and how they don't want to take things to another level because they can't throw away this template of how to structure their shows. It's also one of the things that bug me to no end. No explanation of the camera in the back. It gets old trying to explain that one to non wrestling fans and it makes it hard to suspend disbelief. You don't need a great reason to have a camera back there picking up private, intimate convo's with wrestlers, but c'mon, throw me a bone here. This is one thing I'd like a creative team to correct, but they're so lazy and don't want to throw away the old template of how to format a show because they are stuck in their old ways. Very frustrating.
King Cucaracha 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2005 (edited) The conclusion I've come to from this thread is that they need to sign Colt Cabana. EDIT: In response to Rudo's post on Page 2. Didn't realise we'd come so far since that. Edited July 31, 2005 by King Cucaracha
EricMM 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2005 I have to admit, where comedy is concerned, I always *LOVED* it when wrestlers acted silly-stupid, but funny stupid. Think Edge and Christian. Think Mick Foley with them, (Sodas! Edge Cola!) Think Kurt Angle in a hat, think Gold Dust as a Croc Hunter, think "Yippie Ki Yay Mother Hubbard!" I've also always enjoyed Punk and Cabana's interactions backstage at ROH shows. But the gross-out humor needs to stop. I didn't like Dreamer eating hair, I don't like that mole thing, at all, I didn't even like Socko.
Insane Bump Machine 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2005 The conclusion I've come to from this thread is that they need to sign Colt Cabana. I don't know why they didn't do that already. he has a decent size, can work well in singles and tags and is one of the funniest, most entertaining wrestlers I know. I haven't seen the match Rudo was so fond of, but he had other great comedy matches in ROH and elsewhere.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted July 31, 2005 I've heard Meltzer say this as well, about the ideas for his fueds coming from him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If that is totally true, I don't see why more people don't give him at least a little bit of credit since HHH pretty much totally lost the Benoit feud, and then was absolutely dominated from start to finish in the Batista feud. While HHH shouldn't be a booker/writer at this point, I think he would do a pretty solid job once he retires from in-ring action. I've always been one to believe that an active wrestler should never be a part of creative.
LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2005 If I thought that they could get along with each other I would like to see what would happen if Jim Cornette and Paul Heyman put their heads together.
Dangerous A 0 Report post Posted August 1, 2005 After reading through some of the threads in this folder, the answer to what would be the best creative team possible right now to me would be the team that can dump the current format of the shows (since they're both the same) and come up with something different. Anything different at this point. The shows formats have been stagnant for years now. While they aren't filled with Russocity or have the cohesiveness of the 2000 dominated Kreski years, they have the same template. It's as if Steph and Vince have the writing template saved on Word format from Russo and just can't bring themselves to erase that motherfucker and come up with something fresh and new. Hell, go back and steal some ideas from 15-20 years ago that worked. Do something beyond what is now the norm.

Regarding the SD roster Heyman had and crediting the talent and not him for good TV, please take a look at Real Madrid (Los Galicticos). Some of the most expensive, talented football players in the world, but the numerous coaches struggle to make them gel. Who gets the blame? The coach. HHH > Steph any day of the week. Id go for Vince (its his company), Russo (who has improved), Bischoff, Cornette and Heyman. Then Id have DiBiase, Dreamer and Bauer booking Velocity and Heat, submitting weekly reports to the main committee. Agents would also submit reports to the main committee. Id have the director from Batman Begins involed, since he has a fantastic eye for detail. But the best booking team would be RRR, HTQ, Rando (if kept in check), Porter, Candian Chick, Luschus and niklx.
