Guest Super Leather Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 While I do not post here all that often (usually just reading what others have to say), I was hoping that folks could lend a helping hand and recommend some good places to mailorder videos and DVDs from. In particular, I'm curious about those that offer printed catalogs (as opposed to reading it on the internet), that is, if people still do that sort of thing. Looking to check out some good Japanese stuff (yes, garbage wrestling too) and maybe some of the shoot videos that Brandon Truitt still has archived on this site...although I am unsure of whether or not I want to give my hard-earned money to RF Video for a variety of reasons...and let's please try to not revisit the "Feinstein is a pedophile scumbag/no, he isn't" arguments here. I did see a list somewhere on here with websites to check out, but it looked like it hadn't been updated in a good while, so I thought I'd ask here. I have also checked out some sites, but I would like to know who is cool and who is a scumbag. Thank you in advance.
The Buzz Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 www.highspots.com www.smartmarkvideo.com www.rohwrestling.com(not only sells roh dvds but iwc dvds, fip dvds, classic wrestling, and shoot interviews.) That's all I can think of other than RF Video, Ebay, and Amazon.com.
Guest xSarahx Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 I know that Wrestling Superstore has a mail order catalog, I get it in the mail about once a year. They specialize in action figures and replica belts. However, they do have some tapes. I know they have a lot of WWF/E, some ECW, TNA, early ROH, older shoots, and some OVW. As for Japanese tapes, all they have is some FMW VHS, I believe.
spman Posted August 9, 2005 Report Posted August 9, 2005 As far as US Stuff goes, WWE has basically threatened and scared all the dealers into hiding, so you won't find any reputable tape traders advertising any WWF / WCW / ECW / AWA stuff anymore, although that's not to say that they don't have anything and wouldn't be willing to give you a list of stuff if you e-mailed them about it. Strangely enough though, they haven't made much progress when it comes to shutting down sellers on eBay selling bootlegs, but I'm sure that's only a matter of time too. For Japanese stuff, I've had luck with www.goldenboytapes.com, but they're not the best when it comes to shipping, as I usually have to wait a week or two before my stuff arrives.
Guest Super Leather Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 So I tried some of these places...ordered a bunch of stuff from Highspots.com, and that order showed up just this morning. The Golden Boy order has not gotten to me yet, but I imagine it will come through any day now. In that time period, I ordered and received two packages from Ring of Honor...so I will definitely place them at the top of my list. I also did a small order with RF Video. If the two tapes I ordered actually get shipped, then awesome. If not, I know who not to deal with in the future. Right now, the order is "in progress," so I guess all is good so far. Thanks to everyone who posted their recommendations. If there are other places I should be looking (or places I should definitely avoid), I am certainly open to hearing about them.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 When did you make the order with Goldenboy?
Guest Super Leather Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 When did you make the order with Goldenboy? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's been barely over a week since I did the Goldenboy order. Poster spman indicates that it might take a week or two, and that's no big deal to me. I used to mailorder records about 9-10 years ago, and those would almost always take a week to get to me at the least. Should I be alarmed?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 It depends on when they said your order was shipped, and how big it was. A few tapes shouldn't take more than a few days, depending on where you are.
Zack Malibu Posted August 24, 2005 Report Posted August 24, 2005 I know that Wrestling Superstore has a mail order catalog, I get it in the mail about once a year. As for Japanese tapes, all they have is some FMW VHS, I believe. The video/DVD inventory has expanded immensely in the last year.
Guest Super Leather Posted August 25, 2005 Report Posted August 25, 2005 It depends on when they said your order was shipped, and how big it was. A few tapes shouldn't take more than a few days, depending on where you are. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gmail won't let me log in for some reason, so I can't verify exactly how many tapes I ordered offhand. It was a handful of tapes, shipped on the 15th I believe. I live in Oakland, CA. so I imagine it won't be long before they show up. I'm more wondering when RF Video will decide that my order is no longer "in progress." It's been a few days since I placed that order (Sunday the 21st to be exact).
Guest Super Leather Posted August 26, 2005 Report Posted August 26, 2005 The Goldenboy order came through this morning. I have too much wrestling to catch up on now, and that is awesome. Here is everything I have ordered so far... From ROH: The Era of Honor Begins Round Robin Challenge A Night of Appreciation Best of Paul London-Please Don’t Die! Desperados del Ring Vol. 1 101 Reasons Not To Be A Pro Wrestler (really don't like this very much) From Highspots.com: Chris Benoit In Japan Vol. 2 Sabu in Japan Dynamite Kid compilation VHS Dynamite Kid in Japan triple DVD-R British Bulldogs in Japan New Japan Classics: Foreign Legends #17-19 (features Vader, Bruiser Brody, Stan Hansen) From Goldenboy: Cactus Jack in Japan The Best of Hayabusa IWA King of the Death Match tournament IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title History (I could really use a match listing for this, as I am not going to know who most of the Japanese dudes are and that sucks!) From RF Video (still "in progress"): Best of Rob Van Dam-Five Star Splash Tour (features the match where RVD breaks his ankle) Best of Tajiri Vol. 3-Twisted In The Tarantula (for the Steve Corino Heatwave 2000 match with Corino's SICK bladejob) As you can see, a lot of stuff to watch. Goldenboy is weak for not including a match listing on their site for the IWGP tapes, of which there are two. Oh yeah, what's up with these people not making covers for their tapes? I know they're bootlegs and all; but at these prices, taking the time to cut and paste some graphics and making a cover wouldn't kill anyone. Won't be back on here until Monday, so I hope everyone has a great weekend!
