Guest jm29195 Report post Posted September 1, 2005 Notes from The Wrestling Observer, March 1992:- - Bill Watts is now co- booking WCW with Jim Ross, in a related note, expect to see the return of Dr Death and Terry 'BamBam' Gordy in the near future, now wrestling as the 'Miracle Violence Connection' or MVC - Scott Steiner is taking some time off to let some nagging injuries, accumalated during his championship reign, heel up. He is apparently looking forward to reforming the tag team with brother Rick once back to 100% and is also said to pleased that Rick is being given something of a singles push in his absence. - It appears that the 'number of WWF stars' interested in leaving the WWF and joining WCW is four men. All have good reputations outside of the federation, and all feel they have not been pushed and utilized properly during their repective stays. Legally, we are not allowed to reveal their identities but expect a strung out debut over the next few major WCW events. - Bill Watts has expressed interest in using more 'International' talent for what would seem to be a one shot deal in some capacity through the summer. We are not sure how this will pan out but expect talent that makes a good impression to be offered more of a permanent contract. - Expect Marcus Bagwell to debut as a heel either at the next PPV or the next Clash - The card for the Wrestlewar 1992 PPV looks like this so far:- Brian Pillman vs Jushin Thunder Liger (no DQ) Bam Bam Bigelow/Big Van Vader vs Masa Chono/Hiro Hase (WCW Tag Belts) Keiji Mutoh vs Rick Steiner Sting/Ric Flair/Johnny Ace/Ricky Steamboat/Dustin Rhodes vs 'Ravishing' Rick Rude/'Stunning' Steve Austin/Barry Windham/Arn Anderson/Larry Zbysko (Wargames Match) Also expect something involving Marc Mero, Tracy Smothers, and maybe something from potentially debuting ex WWF wrestlers
Guest jm29195 Report post Posted September 3, 2005 Wrestlewar 1992 Jacksonville, FL March 1992 - Cactus Jack beat Tracy Smothers (8:23) following a double armed DDT. This was Cactus’ return match after a year’s absence. He got in all of his signature spots including the elbow to the outside. The announcers put over Cactus as a tough character and said that his experiences in Japan will serve him well in WCW** - In a segment, The Dangerous Alliance came down to the ring and cut a promo about how they were going to destroy the face team in the Wargames match. On commentary Dusty Rhodes was particularly critical, and was attacked by the Dangerous Alliance. Dustin Rhodes tried to make the save but had his arm ‘broken’ by Arn Anderson and Larry Zbysko. Nikita Kolloff made the save. - As Dusty and Dustin Rhodes were stretchered out, Jim Ross on commentary apologised for the interruption of the scheduled PPV and introduced:- - A hype video for Scott ‘The Body’ Levy. A new heel coming in with gimmick of a spoilt rich kid. - The debuting Marcus Bagwell beat Marc Mero (12:29) when the debuting Barbarian powerslammed Mero on the outside and rolled him back into the ring whilst Bagwell was distracting the referee. After the match Bagwell iuntroduced himself to the crowd, running Jacksonville down and stated that The Barbarian was his bodyguard*** - Brian Pillman and Jushin Thunder Liger were both counted out (18:22) in a no DQ match when Pillman attempted to counter a Liger ropes assisted reverse elbow smash with a chair, KO’ing Liger but taking the full impact of the move (and the chair) in the process. Both men were stretchered out as Jim Ross commented that it was shaping up to be a busy night for the medics and that it would only get worse with the Wargames match.**** - It was announced that Nikita Kolloff would replace the injured Dustin Rhodes in the Wargames match. - WCW World Heavyweight Champion Keiji Mutoh beat Rick Steiner in a non title match (12:23) after reversing Steiner’s modified suplex bomb into a roll-up. Steiner looked competitive and gained several close nearfalls on the champ.*** - WCW World Tag Team Champions Masa Chono/Hiro Hase and the team of Bam Bam Bigelow and Vader was stopped (15:23) An incredibly stiff Japanese Strong Style match with Bigelow and Vader dominating the vast majority of the time. Chono was busted open badly and Hase was incapacitated with a nasty looking Vader chokelsam. At one point it looked like the referee was about to stop the match due to blood loss on Chono’s part, but he recovered and levelled Vader and Bigelow with nasty chairshots. The referee looked to DQ the champs but as the they staggered back up the ramp with their belts, Bill Watts made an appearance and stated that due to the balatant cheating by the Ronin team, they were stripped of the belts. However they would get a chance to regain them as both teams plus loads more will be involved in a tournament to crown new Champions starting at the next Clash and concluding at The Great American Bash PPV. The ex champs were left in a near unconscious state of disbelief as Watts took the belts and headed off to the back.**** - Sting/Johnny Ace/Ric Flair/Ricky Steamboat/Nikita Kolloff beat The Dangerous Alliance (43:00) in The Wargames match. Steamboat was first in with Austin as Jim Ross commentated on this being the second year that Steamboat had been unlucky in the Wargames match. This almost seemed like a technical match until Austin cheated and Steamboat, in an uncharacteristic show of anger, threw him into the ringpost and busted Austin open. Arn Anderson was in next and the DA dominated Steamboat, focusing on his legs, until Kolloff came in and dominated with his power based offence, at one point press slamming Anderson from one ring to another and onto Austin. Larry Zbysko was next in and took out Kolloff’s knee with a nasty looking leglock. Sting was in next and dominated the DA with multiple Stinger Splashes. Rude came in and the US Champ took out Kolloff and Steamboat with Rude Awakening Neckbreakers and went toe to toe with Sting in a slug fest with the crowd going nuts. Austin and Anderson broke up the two men and the DA performed a beatdown on Sting until Johnny Ace made the save, flattening all the members of the DA with Ace Cutters before being taken down by a cell phone shot passed to the last DA member Barry Windham, by manager Paul E Dangerously. Windham proceeded to level Ace with a implant DDT but was stopped in his tracks by Ric Flair who had brass knuckles and proceeded to bust open every member of the DA who wasn’t already showing claret. The match ended with Flair putting Windham into the figure four and chopping him in his bloody face repeatedly, whilst Sting ground Zbysko’s face into the cage for a good minute, getting blood everywhere and finally forcing a submission out of the DA member. There were signs of dissension in the DA camp following the decision but they made up following some hasty Dangerously negotiations, as the face team celebrated on top of the Wargames cage to end the PPV*****

Guest jm29195 Report post Posted September 8, 2005 The Great American Bash 1992 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Late April 1992 - WCW US Champion ‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude/WCW TV Champion ‘Stunning’ Steve Austin w/Paul E Dangerously beat Ric Flair/’Rowdy’ Roddy Piper (12:11) when Rude pinned Flair with the Rude Awakening neckbreaker. There were several instances of miscommunication between Piper and Flair during the match and the announcers acknowledged the DA unit as the far more cohesive tag team. At one point it looked like Piper was about to lock in the sleeper but Flair tagged himself in for the glory, and in the subsequent shoving match between Piper and Flair, Rude snuck up from behind and hit the finisher. Guest jm29195 Report post Posted September 8, 2005 Like the thought of a Bagwell and Levy tag team with The Barbarian as their weight. Much better than babyface Bagwell at the time. Love the Ronin faction and the name. Good to see the MVC back and with gold. Any thoughts of posting WCW Worldwide Results to add to the diary? I am a bit of a Barbarian mark and wanted to utilize him in some way, seeing as he was around during the time period, however and I did not want him main eventing, and so figured that he best way to use him would be as hired muscle with Bagwell in a similar way as to which Diesel and Michaels were used through 93... MVC coming back was a given seeing as I am a major mark for the team and I've got Bill Watts booking. I was thinking of doing Nitro results down the line but Worldwide doesn't really appeal to me at the moment as from what I've seen each Worldwide show was 3 squash matches plus a 'name' match as the main event. I was thinking of posting a 'notable results' section, possibly as a compliment to my Wrestling Observer posts.... Again, thanks for the constructive criticism, 1992 WCW is one of my favourite time periods, and I will be looking to build on what they had at the end of the year and not flush it all away, as in reality! Mero came out to answer the challenge but was jumped from behind by the retooled Vinnie Vegas. Guest jm29195 Report post Posted September 8, 2005 Notes from the Wrestling Observer- July 1992 Kensuke Sasaki has signed a full time contract as a member of The Ronin with WCW. There is apparently one more former WWF wrestler waiting to debut for WCW. Officials are said to be very excited with the hiring of this star and expect to use him in a way not though of the WWF. Expect the Legion of Doom to return in some capacity for a tour in the fall months. Managment is said to be very happy with the latest crop of heels, especially Scott Levy and are said to have BIG plans for him in the following months. Guest jm29195 Report post Posted September 9, 2005 Interesting you chosse not to use Shane Douglas or Bobby Eaton at around this time. Any reasons why - not that I'm complaining as what you have bookd is a lot better than what was going down in WCW at the time. Bobby Eaton- he was ok in his role in the Dangerous Alliance, but was also pushed as a single at the time, something which did not catch on...I prefer to have Windham as a heel in the DA and never saw Eaton as anything more than a tag team player in Midnight Express, which had a decent run in my WCW but has now gone... Shane Douglas- I once read in an interview with Douglas (PS Issue 4) that he recieved offers from both WCW and WWF in early 1995 but wouldn't go back to WCW due to the way Watts treated him as opposed to the other old UWF (Sting/Williams/Gordy) wrestlers..... I know that I'm booking way ahead of myself and don't normally give stuff away, but you can assume Douglas will be debuting with WCW, fresh off ECW, with good prospects, come early 1995...... Like the way you are making a star out of Pillman - wonder if he will be the man to dethron Mutoh's impressive run with the title. I don't think he will - but I could be wrong. Cheers for that, I always thought Pillman was one of the highlights of 92 WCW and would have done so much more if he hadn't been misused post 93.... I'm thinking the new WWF wrestler will be Jake The Snake. You could be onto something there , bet you can't guess the rest of the outcome though....

Guest jm29195 Report post Posted September 13, 2005 Notes from The Wrestling Observer- October 1992 Bam Bam Bigelow and WCW officials appear to be having some problems negotiating a new contract. This is why he wasn't featured at the last Clash, and doesn't seem to be featuring at the Halloween Havoc PPV. The original plan was to have the Vader/Bigelow team split and feud, culminating in a match at Starrcade, but this is currently up in the air. Officials are said to be impressed with the vigour and energy displayed by veterans Piper and Flair in their feud The card for Halloween Havoc 1992 (3 hour window) so far looks like this:- 2 Cold Scorpio vs Rick Martel Scott 'The Body' Levy vs ? in a 'sanctioned' boxing match Ron Simmons/? vs Johnny Ace/? The Enforcers/Barry Windham vs The MVC/Vader 'Stunning' Steve Austin vs Dustin Rhodes for the WCW TV Title 'Ravishing' Rick Rude vs The WCW Halloween Phantom for the US Title Sting vs Cactus Jack Ric Flair vs 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper in a submissions no/DQ match WCW Heavyweight Champion Keiji Mutoh w/Ronin vs Ricky Steamboat
Guest jm29195 Report post Posted September 13, 2005 WCW Halloween Havoc 1992 Charlotte, NC October 1992 - Dustin Rhodes beat ‘Stunning’ Steve Austin w/Paul E Dangerously (19:23) to win the WCW TV Championship. Dustin pinned Austin clean with the bulldog. Throughout the match Austin and Dangerously tried all the tricks that they had used in their previous defences but Dustin was wise to them all and either avoided or countered them all.***1/4 - 2 Cold Scorpio beat Rick Martel (8:23) following the tumbleweed.** - Scott ‘The Body’ Levy came out with Marcus Bagwell, Barbarian and Vinnie Vegas to issue the challenge for the boxing match. Just as the announcer went to announce the opponent, the house lights went out for a split second, when they came back on again, Levy DDT’d Bagwell. The lights went out again, and when power returned, a new look Diamond Dallas Page with more tattoos was standing in the ring, he levelled Vinnie Vegas with a variation of the Ace Cutter. The lights went out for a final time, and when they came back on the debuting Jake The Snake Roberts was standing in the ring- he levelled Barbarian with his DDT and cut a powerful promo, stating that his apprentice Levy had infiltrated WCW under a different guise and cleared the way for him and new ally DDP to wreak havoc on WCW that had never been seen before. The promo ended with Levy ripping off his colourful shirt and showing some new sinister looking tattoos on his upper body. The trio left, leaving a crowd that wasn’t quite sure what they had just witnessed. - The MVC/Vader beat The Enforcers/Barry Windham w/Paul E Dangerously (15:22) when Williams pinned Anderson after hitting a doctor bomb. There was dissension between the Dangerous Alliance members after the match.***3/4 - Johnny Ace and the returning Road Warrior Animal beat Ron Simmons/Marc Mero (6:23) after Ace Ace-cuttered Mero and then assisted Animal in hitting the devastation device for the pin.** - Ace and Animal cut an in-ring promo after the match stating that they were going to be the new dominant force in WCW tag team wrestling. - Cactus Jack beat Sting (12:23) following a double armed DDT. The announcers sold the result as a major upset, but since Cactus had been cheating and utilizing foreign objects throughout the match, they were sure the feud was far from over.**** - Paul E Dangerously was interviewed from the locker room. He said that he was having a bad night but knew that the outcome of the ‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude Title match would swing things back in the DA’s favour. - The WCW Halloween Phantom beat ‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude w/Paul E Dangerously (9:45) following a jumping swinging inverted DDT to win the US Title. Rude hit the Rude Awakening 3 minutes into what seemed like a standard squash match. However the phantom kicked out in a move that popped the crowd big time. It soon became apparent that Rude had a fight on his hands and he was thrown off his game. Rude actually had his foot on the ropes, but Dangerously shoved it off, allowing the phantom to gain the win. After the match Dangerously kicked Rude out of the DA and the phantom unmasked to reveal…..Brian Pillman.*** - WCW Champion Keiji Muto w/The Ronin beat Ricky The Dragon Steamboat (17:24) in a match that whilst reminiscent of their classical earlier series, was hampered by the frequent interference of Muto’s colleagues. Muto scored the pin after Hase hit a northern lights driver on Steamboat whilst the referee was distracted, allowing Mutoh to pick up the tainted victory.*** - Ric Flair beat ‘Rowdy’Roddy Piper by submission (16:22) with the figure four leglock. A powerful brawl with cheating tactics employed by both men with Flair having the obvious home town babyface advantage. At one point, Piper had the sleeper locked in but Flair backed him up into a turnbuckle that had been exposed earlier, knocking Piper down long enough for Flair to lock his finishing manouver on and score the victory.****
UZI Suicide 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2005 I'm not really liking this Muto title reign..his feuds have been kind of weak (Steiner and Pillman) until now, with Steamboat, but the whole time it seems like the WCW Championship has taken a backseat to other matches on the PPV's. Guest jm29195 Report post Posted September 14, 2005 I'm not really liking this Muto title reign..his feuds have been kind of weak (Steiner and Pillman) until now, with Steamboat, but the whole time it seems like the WCW Championship has taken a backseat to other matches on the PPV's. Well at the time with the Steiner/Mutoh feud, I had positioned, that as a major part of my WCW, but I prefer on having several major feuds carrying the promotion rather than one, so if a viewer, for instance didn't like the Steiner/Mutoh feud, then the chances are they would probabluy find something to like in the Dangerous Alliance vs Sting and friends feud or in the tag ranks.... Pillman/Mutoh feud was presented to make Pillman into a percieved upper level player, at the beginning, I would hope that the fans wouldn't see Pillman as Mutoh's equal but by the end they would. Again at the time, as in reality, this WCW Championship feud was overshadowed by the tag team tournament- one thing which I always liked about 1992 Watts WCW booking was its use of tag teams as main event draws, so you're right, at that point, although Pillman/Mutoh was a major feud, the promotional emphasis of WCW during the early summer months of my 1992 was in pushing the tag division as something special. I'm glad that you see Steamboat as a strong opponent for Mutoh, as I hoped to be able to put them into a feud with little build up just based on the past rivalry I had booked for them. However, the main feud in WCW at present is Flair/Piper, which I thought would have been the only choice given both men's status with the fans and backstage ego's.... Finally...on a side note, I am moving out of my house today and going up to uni, so there probably won't be any updates until the weekend, when I get my new computer set up, bye for now, and it's been great fun writing this stuff so far! Wish me luck! James
