Voting begins at 8 PM EST Monday morning.

FINALIST #1

THE EVIL DEAD

1981

Directed by Sam Raimi

Starring Bruce Campell, Ellen Sandweiss, Richard DeManincor, Betsy Baker, Theresa Tilly

The Plot

Three girls. Two guys. One Necronomicon. What follows is one of the most popular horror films in history, along with Sam Raimi's unique vision of "Ash", a chainsaw-wielding, king of the one-liner, played by Bruce Campbell, who would go on to star in next two popular films of the "series".

The Quotes

"Now, the sun will be up in an hour or so and we can all get out of here together. You, me, Linda, Shelly. Hmm.. Well... not Shelly, she… We'll all be going home together. Wouldn't you like to be going home? I bet you'd like that, wouldn't you? Scott?"

"I know now that my wife has become host to a Candarian demon. I fear that the only way to stop those possessed by the spirits of the book is through the act of... bodily dismemberment."

"You bastards! Why are you torturing me like this? Why?"

"Soon all of you will be like me... And then who will lock you up in a cellar?"

Round 1: Defeated Versus

Round 2: Defeated An American Werewolf in London

FINALIST #2

DAWN OF THE DEAD

1978

Directed by George A. Romero

Starring David Emge, Ken Foree, Scott H. Reiniger, Gaylen Ross

The Plot

As the zombie epidemic rages on, two SWAT members, a reporter, and his girlfriend find refuge in a shopping mall, forced to deal with the physical threat of what lurks outside (and inside?) the mall, as well as their own psychological issues. New lives, new skills, and new experieces of terror become a reality.

The Quotes

"What are they doing? Why do they come here?"

"Some kind of instinct. Memory, of what they used to do. This was an important place in their lives."

"Many have died, last week, on these streets. In the basement of this building, you will find them. I have given them the last rites, now, you do what you will. You are stronger than us... But soon, I think they be stronger than you. When the dead walk, señores, we must stop the killing... or lose the war."

"What the hell are they?"

"They're us that's all, when there's no more room in hell."

"What?"

"Something my grand-dad used to tell us. You know Mucumba? Voodoo. My grand-dad was a priest in Trinidad. He used to tell us, 'when there's no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.'"

"I've seen half-a-dozen guys in my unit get bitten by those things. None of them lasted more than... three days."

Road to the Finals

Round 1: Defeated Deep Red

Round 2: Defeated Near Dark

Round 3: Defeated Poltergeist

Round 4: Defeated Night of the Living Dead (original)

Round 5: Defeated Halloween

Christ that's a tough one. I'm a zombie freak, but Evil Dead (along with Poltergeist II and the Shining) was a movie that gave me serious nightmares as a child when I had first seen it. My parents were always very liberal with letting me watch horror flicks, and I think they regretted it once stuff like this came along.

I can't decide right now. I will vote later. =\

well i love both of them equally but i think in the end Dawn is the better movie of the 2 so that's my pick, oh and i'll add my favorite quote:

"perfect baby...perfect"

Dawn of the Dead. Sure, I love the Evil Dead films, but Dawn of the Dead is my all time favorite horror movie.

I have to give Dawn of the Dead the edge only because The Evil Dead, great as it is with it's shoestring budget and legendary behind the scenes stories, is outshined by its sequel, whereas Dawn is a sequel and superior to not only its brethren but most horror movies.

I love Evil Dead, but this one isn't even close, Dawn of the Dead.

It's a moot point at this stage, but having watched the Evil Dead last night, it'd be sad if it didn't receive one vote.

Dawn.

And I do have to say that the tourney was well done, seeing as two of the movies that most deserved to get to the finals did. I feel like a lot of the time one of the two finalists is a WTF?!? option and thus it kind of takes away from the tournament as a whole.

Having said that, I'm surprised that this was as one-sided of a final as it was.
