chirs3 Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 So now I've got background noise. Some songs have this kind of... warbling... bubbly sound, for lack of a better way to put it, in the background. Something like this sounds fine when I listen to it in Firefox, but it's got the warble when I download it and listen to it on Winamp. So I'm looking for either: 1. Some kind of patch, plugin, or whosawhatzis that can fix this. Haven't found anything that works yet at Winamps website, but I figure you guys might know of one. Or: 2. A better music player than Winamp. Any suggestions?
Mik Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 iTunes is, in my opinion, un-matched as a music player. And keep in mind, the player is completely separate from the store.
The Amazing Rando Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 I hate Winamp, man. I use WMP or Media Player Classic (which plays damn never EVERYTHING outside of Real Audio and Quicktime stuff and looks exactly like the old WMP). Winamp went out the window when they started really pushing the browser and video use. When it was just for audio, it was great.
Insane Bump Machine Posted August 30, 2005 Report Posted August 30, 2005 have you tried switching output plugins? preferences--->Plug-Ins--->Output--->try waveout or directsound (you can also configure these plugins, switch the used sound driver for example)

I've been using iTunes since the Pepsi promotion first began last spring and never looked back.

Directsound works great for me while the other two default make click sounds. Also, make you you have DSP/effect plug-ins selected to none. Winamp as a plug-in which comes by default and makes annoying sound changes. Dunno why it's there.
chirs3 Posted September 2, 2005 Author Report Posted September 2, 2005 Oh... oh, this is nice. Just switched to Direct Sound. The burbly sound is 99% gone - I hear tiny hints here and there, but they're few and far between. Plus, the actual quality of the music has improved greatly. I was reluctant to switch to a new player because they don't all recognize the verious types of files (like SNES/Genesis music files, of which I have many) and they don't all have the neato skins that I have. I was hoping that switching to ITunes would be a last resort - thankfully, now I don't have to. Thanks a bunch, IBM and Kaout!
Dips Posted September 2, 2005 Report Posted September 2, 2005 Doesn't iTunes rape the resources? Winamp seems to go easy on the RAM.
