Anorak 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2005 Pierce vs Clijsters in the womens final. Dementieva wasn't too impressed with the long break Pierce took when she'd just won the first set comfortably. Pierce predictably returned a new player and won. Perfectly legal. Some would say smart, others would say gamesmanship. Clijsters breezed the first set and Sharapova was rubbish. Second set Sharapova was playing one great point and then one poor one while Clijsters was a steady eddie the other end. Somehow she saved 5 matchpoints and took it to a third but just when it seems we'd got a thriller on our hands she pretty much chucks it away at the start of the third. I hope Clijsters finally gets that slam she deserves. As for Sharapova, I can't quite figure her out. She's too streaky for me too bet on her when it really matters against the likes of Clijsters, Henin & the Williams sisters. She's got the tools and the mental strength but her level of play dips too frequently. Fantastic event so far. The mens almost from the off and the womens caught fire as well from the Q-Final stage. The Agassi/Blake match was a joy to watch. I went from wanting Agassi to win all the way to almost cheering more for Blake. You know its a great match when you're emotions and support are switching during it.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted September 10, 2005 Andre Agassi is a robot, should be a hell of a match tomorrow, I guess I'll have to DVR it, because lets be honest, the NFL is king tomorrow.

If not, I'm all over the tennis.
Alro 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2005 Agassi is playing out of his mind and Federer is playing like he's human. This should be tremendous.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2005 Just saw the Pete Sampras RBS ads. Can't imagine who thought Sampras has enough charisma to do a television commercial.
Gert T 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2005 I guess in a tennis thread it is hard to pimp tennis to outsiders, but man tune to CBS, this is going to be an epic match. If it goes five sets, Agassi the Robot comes out.

Guest *KNK* Report post Posted September 11, 2005 As great as this is, Tennis NEEDS Federer to win here. Federer is finally starting to gain the respect he deserves and a win a classic such as this one really cements his place in history. As a fan, This is just brilliance here. Hogan Made Wrestling 0 Report post Posted September 11, 2005 What dominating performance by Federer. I'd maintain that right now he is undoubtably the world's best athlete.
Anorak 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2005 I can't see anybody stopping him anytime soon. He's got Hewitt's and Roddick's number and Safin is too injury-prone and unpredictable. Nadal will get even better but at the moment you would only fancy him on clay against Federer as he proved earlier in the year. Gasquet has the natural talent and game to be a rival but the Ginepri match showed he's not the athlete these other names are yet.
