Anorak Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005 Pierce vs Clijsters in the womens final. Dementieva wasn't too impressed with the long break Pierce took when she'd just won the first set comfortably. Pierce predictably returned a new player and won. Perfectly legal. Some would say smart, others would say gamesmanship. Clijsters breezed the first set and Sharapova was rubbish. Second set Sharapova was playing one great point and then one poor one while Clijsters was a steady eddie the other end. Somehow she saved 5 matchpoints and took it to a third but just when it seems we'd got a thriller on our hands she pretty much chucks it away at the start of the third. I hope Clijsters finally gets that slam she deserves. As for Sharapova, I can't quite figure her out. She's too streaky for me too bet on her when it really matters against the likes of Clijsters, Henin & the Williams sisters. She's got the tools and the mental strength but her level of play dips too frequently. Fantastic event so far. The mens almost from the off and the womens caught fire as well from the Q-Final stage. The Agassi/Blake match was a joy to watch. I went from wanting Agassi to win all the way to almost cheering more for Blake. You know its a great match when you're emotions and support are switching during it.
Gert T Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005 Andre Agassi is a robot, should be a hell of a match tomorrow, I guess I'll have to DVR it, because lets be honest, the NFL is king tomorrow.
CanadianChris Posted September 10, 2005 Report Posted September 10, 2005 Andre Agassi is a robot, should be a hell of a match tomorrow, I guess I'll have to DVR it, because lets be honest, the NFL is king tomorrow. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Are there any late games worth watching? If not, I'm all over the tennis.
Alro Posted September 11, 2005 Author Report Posted September 11, 2005 Agassi is playing out of his mind and Federer is playing like he's human. This should be tremendous.
CanadianChris Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Dallas-San Diego is the late game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Definitely tennis, then.
CanadianChris Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Just saw the Pete Sampras RBS ads. Can't imagine who thought Sampras has enough charisma to do a television commercial.
Gert T Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 I guess in a tennis thread it is hard to pimp tennis to outsiders, but man tune to CBS, this is going to be an epic match. If it goes five sets, Agassi the Robot comes out.
Precious Roy Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 I never follow tennis, didn't even know what the final was, but now I'm hooked, I love when Agassi does this shit!
Gert T Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 This reeks of five sets, thank goodness we have Green Bay-Detroit here. Great second set by Agassi.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Both guys break each other and this is looking to be a classic match.
mike546 Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Andre NEEDS to start getting his first serve in. No clue how hes stayed close without it. Holds off four breaks and wins the game! This guy is AMAZING.
Guest *KNK* Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 As great as this is, Tennis NEEDS Federer to win here. Federer is finally starting to gain the respect he deserves and a win a classic such as this one really cements his place in history. As a fan, This is just brilliance here.
mike546 Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Ah, shit. This just has to go five sets.
Precious Roy Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Agassi looks to be out of his zone...missing a lot of shots..
CanadianChris Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 Andre's done. I've seen this before.
Hogan Made Wrestling Posted September 11, 2005 Report Posted September 11, 2005 What dominating performance by Federer. I'd maintain that right now he is undoubtably the world's best athlete.
Anorak Posted September 12, 2005 Report Posted September 12, 2005 I can't see anybody stopping him anytime soon. He's got Hewitt's and Roddick's number and Safin is too injury-prone and unpredictable. Nadal will get even better but at the moment you would only fancy him on clay against Federer as he proved earlier in the year. Gasquet has the natural talent and game to be a rival but the Ginepri match showed he's not the athlete these other names are yet.
