This Week in College Football 9/8 - 9/10

Recommended Posts

I hate people who dog coaches because I have no wins at the D1 level, but Tressel should have had Troy Smith in the game when Zwick fumbled. 2:37 left in the game and the ball on the 35, and only down by one point, you have to put the guy in there who can create more opportunities. Sorry if that wasn't a coherent sentence, I am in Dayton and drunk.

Great game by Texas though.

A little of both. Vince Young, while shaky at times, was brilliant down the stretch. Obviously the 5 Field Goal's is what cost Ohio State the game (And evidently the Zwick fumble) but that's what made this game so great. Both teams played very well.

I think Texas won it. Both teams played too well to say that the loser gave it away. If Texas had obviously not been playing to their capabilities, then maybe I go the other way, but they played too well to slight them like that.

ASU back in front. Great 2nd half.

GOD DAMMIT! ASU was trying for the big play too much on those three previous plays. Ugh just when this was looking like a great day for the Pac-10.

OSU started in such good field position so many times, so I've got to say Texas's defense kept the offense able to have a chance to win.

What a great weekend of college football that was.

The funny thing was, when I got online during the halftime of LSU-ASU, the splash-page for MSN said something like "In a ho-hum weekend of college football, Texas-Ohio State appears to be the one game worth watching."

It wasn't like that was an afternoon game either... ND-Michigan was over by about 1:30 CST and Iowa State had kicked the shit out of Iowa by then.

It's also somewhat official that this year's title game probably won't include a Big Ten team, barring a major string of upsets...

Michigan, Ohio State, and Iowa, the three favorites, all losing this week hurts the conference considerably.

Purdue is the team most likely to come out of this unscathed, but the fact that their schedule does not include Michigan or Ohio State could hurt them in the SoS department when the pollsters rank them.

Next week is gonna be Armageddon down in The Swamp. Forget about the National considerations here. Georgia's a serious dark horse for SEC champion and looks poised to have a year like 2002 if they can get past LSU, which I think they can.

First year in a while where I've rooted for Oklahoma over Texas. Adrian Peterson is sensational, and Texas will get diced to bits if Oklahoma can stop trying to go downfield so much with a quarterback who isn't capable of those big-time throws.

Bring on the anti-Irish wave, like in 2001 when they got as high as #3 and then lost to the cheers of the nation. This year they're more than a paper tiger feeding off of prestige. Top 10 by the end of the season, yo.

The reason I hate that Texas won is that now if they and USC go undefeated, they'll get in over an undefeated SEC team, and just like last year, it'll be a sham.

Face it, the SEC is EONS and LIGHTYEARS better than the Pac-10 or Big XII this year, so if it comes down to that for the second year in a row, consider me pissed.

I don't, however, think it will happen because the SEC powerhouses will knock each other out. Those are the negatives of playing in the SEC.

But the positives are supposed to be that, if you survive undefeated, it should be set in stone that you go the the title game. According to last year, that isn't the case.

Ah, maybe im just tired.

Another mistake by the Longhorns. They were controlling the game early but they are now just shooting themselves in the foot time after time.

Whoo Go Colonels!

That's where I obtained my first and am obtaining my second degree. Had Katrina not come, I would have gone to that game. I was listening to it on the radio though and it was a GREAT game.

Amen to that. At this point, if you don't have USC or Texas on your schedule, you're pretty much fucked as far as controlling your own destiny.

My Cougs aren't going to win at USC unless Reggie Bush gets drugged or something, but at least they have the chance. I could totally see someone like Florida or Virginia Tech going undefeated and getting screwed out of the national title game again.

In fact, how funny and ironic would it be if Urban Meyer coached an undefeated team two years in a row without one national title to show for it. It could totally happen.
