Let's talk about MNM and the "new" LOD.

Recommended Posts

I just finished watching the tag team championship match from SD tonight, and I actually really enjoyed it. I don't know about everyone else but I could see this feud growing into something that's actually pretty special, instead of "waste of time". I am really starting to get an old school feel for these matches, and it's not just because it has something to do with the Road Warriors. We have two tag teams, who actually look like real tag teams, and there was something about the match tonight that just really felt right to me. I can't quite place what that was though, not yet anyway.

I don't know, I guess it's just me, but I'm only just not getting into this feud really, and I'm hoping they continue it for a while. I actually wouldn't mind seeing this new version of LOD sticking around for a while longer also. MNM is also growing on me, and I think part of that has to do with WWE not showcasing the women tonight instead of the actual wrestlers. If they can keep that up, MNM could be a fantastic long term tag team. I lalso oved Melina's work tonight, especially her facial reactions throughout the match, and especially at the end.

Am I alone here, or are there others out there who are starting to like this? Tonight it just hit me that for the first time in a really long time, we have a pretty old school feud boiling over the tag team straps. To top it all off, both of these two teams seem to actually give a damn about the titles, and that is something very rare these days in WWE.

I think it felt a bit different because it wasn't that basic WWE tag formula. Heel's work the face's till the big tag happens and the face's take over then some silly ending happens and one of the team's go over. Tonight was different but different in a positive way.

I'd like to see someone brought into the team to eventually replace Animal. Heidenreich seems to fit into this style of tag team, but Animal needs to be phased out. Some sort of passing the torch storyline with Heidi, Animal and whoever could be neat, and we end up with a new, over, historically significant tag team...

One of the unsung aspects of Smackdown this year as been the improvement of John Heidenreich. I recall seeing him a year or so ago at an OVW taping and the guy couldn't even hit Kevin Nash spots correctly. He was abysmal. While he may not be mistaken for Ricky Steamboat anytime soon he HAS improved a lot in the ring and he's a kick on the mic.

...But for the love of God, can he please get rid of the red speedo? He could at least wear something similar to what Animal is wearing, unless that's another step like the face paint and shoulder pads. Right now his outfit is distracting and I'm not feeling the Road Warrior vibe that I got from watching the orginal team.

I agree. It's almost like WWE still has him as an amalgram of pre-LOD 2005 Heidenreich and his current LOD 2005 look. It just doesn't look right at all.

I don't like LOD 2K5 at all. I've never enjoyed watching Heidenreich and I don't feel that Animal should be holding a title at this point in his carrer. I much preferred the titles being on MNM, as they were a good and entertaining team. It's too bad they jobbed them out and then stuck them with Jillian and her "mole from hell."

I'm hoping that MNM will win the titles back soon and that both Animal and Heidenreich go away.

Yeah, it sucks that the titles didn't change hands this past Friday on Smackdown, considering that LOD 2005 shouldn't be a long-term team at all. Although since WWE went with that, they still should have had Heidenreich wear tights like Animal and not the red speedo he still wears, like Secret Agent said.

My favorite thing about Heidenreich is his theme song. For some reason it's just fucking cool. Maybe because it sounds like Rammstein with some Mortal Kombat samples over it.

Being part of the Neo LOD makes Heidenreich semi bearable, but just. He really needs to drop the bad Goldberg ripoff gear though and get something resembling Animal's tight, that's very true, I see him like that and remember Heidenrape.....erg......~pukes~

I hate the fact that LOD are still Tag Team champions, but at least WWE is doing something with the division on Smackdown. I loved MNM from day one and they are arguably the best team in the WWE right now, and while I still hate LOD I like the fact that WWE is making a decent rivalry out of it.

Don't get me wrong, I certainly don't think LOD2K5 is a good team, but for whatever reason the crowd loves them so they are doing something right. They have gotten the tag division the most over its been since the Filthy Animals were feuding with the World's Greatest Tag Team back in the summer of 2003.

That said, the Blue Bloods 2K5 are my favourite team in the division and I really hope they get a title run eventually.

Actually, Downhome, I feel the opposite of what you do. This current attention on the tag scene will end once WWE feels that it has sold as many "Road Warriors" DVDs as they are going to, IMHO. It ticks me off that Animal has a job just because he's Johnny Ace's brother. A younger guy could be using his spot. Also, Heidenreich is getting more and more intolerable to me. Although I thought that he did a good job with his lunatic character pre-face turn, he doesn't work for me as a face. Nor is he that watchable in the ring, although he is getting some better. To me, LOD2K is contrived and hokey and would be a channel-changer if I didn't have to tape the show.

As long as that person doesn't end up like Droz did, then things will be fine.

But who, if anyone currently on the roster, would you pick to be Animal's replacement?

EDIT: Also...would Animal stay on in a manager role?

I'm enjoying the tag team title feud. There pretty much hasn't been a true feud since the Dudleyz and La Resistance on RAW a couple years ago. There have always been pretty good matches, but never a feud that lasted more than a couple matches. Hopefully they will bring meaning back to the World Tag Team titles on RAW.

You know, I never appreciated tag team wrestling until now. I always took it for granted, as he Edge/Christian, Dudleyz, Hardy Boys, etc. era I overlooked. Around that time, the tag team titles meant so much. I've been watching wrestling since 1990, and I always liked tag team wrestling. But I always took it for granted because there was never really any problems in the division until the past year or two. So I'm hopeful they will bring back some meaning to the division. Now if they could only do that with the Cruiserweight division...
