This Week in College Football 9/21 - 9/24

I've never seen ESPN so fully bend over for a team as they are right now. The Patriots don't even get this kind of love. And the thing that's really sad about it is that the minute USC loses ESPN will be all over them like they are with everyone else.

Have you heard of the Yankees?

How about OU right before they lost to K. State?

ESPN was saying they could beat some NFL teams at that point.

They've said that about USC. And the OU BJ's were only towards the tail end of the season.

The USC blowjobs have been running for 2 years now.

The thing that really bugs me is their Heisman poll and then their saying that this is USC's world and USC's title to lose and everyone else is just living in USC's world and playing for USC's title.

Va. Tech is better this year than they are in the years that they totally collapsed in November, I'll give them that. That doesn't mean that they don't have a few rough games, the ACC title game and Miami are examples of that. Texas plays at A&M, right? They also play Texas Tech. I'm not saying that neither of those teams will be in the Rose Bowl, but I am saying that Texas will be there with one loss on their record.

It's also, sadly, the case.

USC has a very beneficial schedule for them. And their offense showcases Leinart and Bush exceptionally well. I can't think of too many guys who can put up the stats to take the shine off of them and they don't play many teams who can make them look bad.

I'm not a USC fan, but nobody else in college football impresses me as able to beat them presently.

I still say VA Tech's defense would give them a headache. They're reasonably not going to play a smash mouth good defense this season(except maybe Notre Dame) so when someone does hit them in the mouth they might not be used to it.

I mean the Hawaii game was proof of their unprofessionalism. Especially when Jarrett was dragged down and then turned around and threw the ball at the back of the defenders head. It almost reminds me of when the Lakers from a few years ago would get a foul on them and they'd argue like "Do you know who I am? You can't do that to me!"

I just get that feeling from USC. Everyone is already giving it to them and you can tell it's going to their heads.

I mean why isn't Reggie Bush ever flagged for his little roll into the end zone? I remember Mark Bradley at OU(and i only bring in OU b/c it's the only example i can think of) getting flagged last season for diving into the end zone. They called it unsportsman like. So why isn't Bush ever flagged? They've done other unprofessional things this season and they celebrate more than any other team I've seen when they score a TD.

Oh and I don't think A&M could beat Texas. A&M is not good this year. They were overrated in the pre-season. The most overrated team in the Big XII was obviously OU but A&M is coming in at 2 on that front. And if Texas Tech can get by Texas somehow then I think they have a chance of being 12-0 and winning the Big XII! With the non-conference schedule and the fact that they came out of nowhere they obviously wouldn't play for the national title unless they were the only undefeated team but I mean it's not so far fetched to think Tech would be undefeated!

The game against Hawaii is a bad example. I've never seen a game involving them where they haven't played dirty and brought the other team down to that type of play.

To beat USC, you have to have fast recievers because of SC's horrible secondary, great linebackers that can finish their tackles on Bush and Lendale White, and physical cornerbacks that can run with Jarrett and Smith. I know that Va. Tech has the corners to play with USC, but do they have the linebackers? I don't know.

Ohio State was the one team that I thought could give USC problems if they met in the Rose Bowl because of their defensive matchups and extremely fast wide recievers, now I don't see any team with the players to keep up with USC.

One thing that is annoying me about USC is constantly seeing Leinhart at the top of all the "Heisman Watch" lists and related things with everyone saying it's his to lose. From my point of view, Reggie Bush has been WAY more impressive this season than Leinhart. A lot of Leinhart's success comes from the fact that he has a great line and that Bush opens up the field so much defenses can't key on Leinhart for very long. For instance this week against Oregon, the Ducks defense focused on stopping the pass and were relatively successful in containing Leinhart during the first half, despite getting practically no pressure on him all game. But once Bush started making big plays the defense had to key in on him which opened things up for Leinhart. I can tell you that everyone in the crowd was deathly scared every time Bush touched the ball, which can't be said for every time Leinhart threw it.

Personally, I'd have Bush as the big Heisman leader right now, and possibly have Drew Stanton at #2, especially if he can beat Michigan next week. But I think the media just have this love affair with Leinhart and making him the "next Archie Griffin" and so he will probably win by default if the Trojans don't lose.

In last years USC/Virginia Tech matchup one of the VT linebackers - Hall or Adibi - was having a hell of a game, getting a couple sacks on Leinart and basically disrupting the whole offense. He got hurt in the third quarter and USC pulled away soon after. VT also has Jimmy Williams, one of the best corners in the country. And their recievers are pretty fast, but young (mostly sophomores now).

How about Florida, just to throw another possible opponent? Assuming they get out of the SEC unbeaten or with one loss. Their corners aren't anything special but they have a great front seven. Offensively you have a great QB in Leak and lots of talented recievers, playing to USC's weakness at corner.

Florida/USC would be one wild offensive matchup. I don't think they'll get out of the SEC undefeated or with one loss, that's more likely to be Georgia. Florida matches up well with USC because they can put the points up on the board.

I had forgotten about Georgia. They would scare the hell out of me.

To beat USC you have to score on every drive pretty much, and it has to be TD's, because when USC wants to they can pretty much get TD's at will, and if you blow a couple of offensive drives that could be all it takes.

Matt Leinart is the most overrated player in all of sports. I'd say that you could take at least 30 or 40 QBs, replace him with them in the USC offense, and they all win the Heisman trophy. Replace Reggie Bush with anyone meanwhile, and USC doesn't win the Pac Ten.

They can be stopped. Witness the first half against Oregon. And I think that was them beating themselves. Combine that with a good defense and I think they can easily be stopped. Remember they arent going to face an awesome defense(except maybe Notre Dame) all season so I think when they finally do face a tough defense they will get frustrated.

ND's corners aren't that good, though the front seven is decent. The only chance Notre Dame has against USC is if Weis can do the same thing against USC that he did against the Colts in the playoffs this year, which is play ball-control with Darius Walker and hopefully keep USC's offense off the field.

Leinart is overrated, but not the most overrated in sports. That's a little far. In fact, he probably isn't even the most overrated in college football. I think Ted Ginn is the most overrated. Don't get me wrong, the guy has talent, but people touting him as a Heisman contender was completely unwarranted.

If you were ask me what position is the weak link in the USC offense, I'd say QB. They have the best receivers in the country, the best running backs in the country, (Bush is the most talented player in all of college football, and Lendale White has to be close to the best secondary back), and they've probably got the best offensive line other than Texas.

Meanwhile, Leinart consistently misses open receivers, makes bad reads, and goes down for no reason. Take somebody like Sam Keller and plug him into that offense, and he'd average 600 yards a game passing. Leinart holds that offense back way more than he helps it, and people are talking about him as possibly the best college football player in history. Matt Leinart is definitely the most overrated player in all of sports right now, and may well be the most overrated player of all-time.

I'm just waiting for Leinart to be sacked, stand up, take his helmet off and throw it at the defender and yell "How dare you touch me! I'm Matt Leinart! I party with Nick Lachey and I'm dating a chick from Laguna Beach! I play at USC! I'm from Hollywood bitch! Hands off!"
