Matt Young Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Has anyone else been affected by the fires? I just moved a few weeks ago to the outskirts of Moreno Valley (10 minutes from where I used to live) and yesterday, I could see thick black smoke on the othr side of a nearby mountain, and ash was raining down in our backyard. By the time Melissa and I left for the bar around 6 PM, police were diverting and guiding traffic on the small, rural roads by our house. It apparently got worse, as I was unable to return to my house and ended up staying at a friend's place. My mom said last night that there was talk of an evacuation. Hopefully things near my home have gotten better, not worse, and I hope that the entire ordeal ends as swiftly as possible so that no more people will risk losing their homes or their lives.
Guest Vitamin X Posted October 6, 2005 Report Posted October 6, 2005 Get used to it. Happens just about every year, like the hurricanes in Florida, only it doesn't affect Californians NEARLY as much, except that of course every major media outlet will be covering it. It was probably a lot worse in 2003, at least for me, the fires completely enclosed Santa Clarita, the suburb of L.A. where I was staying, and the sky was dark grey/black with smoke and rained ash night and day for about a week or so until they finally got the blaze under control. Part of me wanted the fucking city to burn, though.
Star Ocean 3 Posted October 7, 2005 Report Posted October 7, 2005 http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8977/dscn01124vz.jpg That's the best i could get of the fire in Burbank. It didn't affect me, but there was ash falling across the valley.
Vampiro69 Posted October 9, 2005 Report Posted October 9, 2005 Only thing odd to me about the fires was that there was one called the Topanga fire. All I could think of was Topanga from Boy Meets World and the drinking game were we took drinks everytime her name was mentioned on the show.
Sideburnious Posted October 11, 2005 Report Posted October 11, 2005 I thought the title was California Fries and was expecting anecdote about fast food.
