Big Show

Recommended Posts

What I did like when Paul Wight first came to the WWF, was that he actually was portrayed like a giant. Remember that first match he had on RAW? No one could just go ahead irish whip him, he was basically immovable. Punches and other basic moves had absolutely no effect on him. Now he just wrestles basically like another heavyweight main event-style guy. Sure, once in a while he gets to show off his power, but basically he wrestles the same as everyone else.

I enjoy Show more as a face.

I'm expecting him to be next on the list to feud with Triple H, which I'm actually looking forward to.

Show hasn't been "ruined" and he never will be. You could put him in a dress and let him have tea time in the middle of the ring, all he has to do to regain the credibility he had before is toss people around.

People don't seem to understand this, but Show is right up there, and possibly even beyond, Benoit in terms of being an asset to the company. His size makes it impossible to permanently damage his credibility, any little kid seeing him in person for the first time is gonna shit his pants and think "that guy could beat anyone". If he suffers loss after loss after loss, it just takes one dominant win to make people think he's "back to form" and a credible threat.

His matches with Brock made Brock a star, and not just because it was "omg look at him suplex show". It was impressive on both parts, and it came off as a legit battle between the two strongest and largest guys they had. Either guy winning wasn't shocking because they built them up to be so evenly matched, and when someone is around 6-3 and evenly matched with Show, people are gonna be impressed.

I'd be running with Show as a face champ on Raw right now if I had the books. Instantly credible, awe-inspiring, has that old-scool feel when he works his slow paced squashes, it's really everything you'd want in a champion. I think the WWE just feels he's too generic to connect with "todays" audience, but I still maintain the over-stimulation of the 80's and 90's has left people wanting simpler things. What's simpler than a giant who smashes people?

It should also be noted that when Show first came to WWF, he could move a lot better than he can now. There's an early match I remember seeing where he actually dropkicked Test in the face.

And we all know he was even more athletic when he was at WCW without any visible gut.

That's the guy's own fault, I guess. Shame about it, though.

It's been a while since I've seen Royal Rumble 2004, but I seem to recall Big Show being utilised perfectly in the context of that match.

I understand that it would be difficult to maintain Big Show's image as he was portrayed as in RR 2004, since it would be hard to create credible, evenly-matched feuds for an invincible giant. Still, I don't think they need to resort to Big Show as a comedy gimmick, even if Big Show seems to be a genuinely funny person in real life.

That's all well and good, but he needs momentum to make it to the upper echelon. A good heel run and a sensible face turn would have worked at any point in his career. Too many times, they turned him for no good reason and screwed up all momentum he had. Sure, he CAN regain credibility. But the one step forward, two step back way of thinking doesn't make him a big money player. Nobody bought Big Show as a World Champion either reign, because he was treading water and suddenly came from nowhere each time.

I totally agree, if only because Show can be a media superstar that Benoit simply can't.

Again, agreed.

The trouble is, finding someone to pair him against. Brock was fine, now there's not many on Raw. HHH isn't going to put him over as a monster. Cena can't get good matches out of him. Kane...been there, WAY too many times. Angle's already been squashed like a bug by Show plenty of times.

Personally, I think it'd be an idea to tag him up with Shelton regularly. Give them the Tag Titles and put them against guys who aren't doing anything but have a little credibility to them. Then, you could turn Show eventually, lead to Show/Shelton. This time, I wouldn't say it was rushed, Show's been a face for a while (as opposed to the 4/5 month turns he had pretty much since debuting).

Definitely have him as a face, he's got a great personality and it's a shame to waste it on a monster heel gimmick when there are younger and fresher guys to push in that role. I've always liked him. Have him do hot tags and stuff, he's always been over when he's done that.
