Rocky VI Officially Greenlit

Recommended Posts

I actually don't mind Dixon as this is a more down-to-earth film, and Dixon is a real character who has his own reasons for going through with this fight. He isn't Drago, nor is he meant to be.

I think Dixon is one of the best characters in the Rocky series. They established him more than enough for me as the young man desperate for a challenge so he can finally prove he's not a joke. A fighter desperately seeking respect and wanting to be accepted as one of the best boxers in the world but trapped in a box surrounded by joke opponents who cannot even come close to testing him.

We went and saw this tonight and I really enjoyed it. I actually thought Dixon was great character as he wasn't all that likable but you could feel for him. I can't think of a real negative. I don't think it was a GREAT movie but it was a pleasing couple hours and probably the best Stallone has acted since the original Rocky. I was surprised by his performence, to be honest.

Saw it Thursday night (and Bond on Friday, finally catching up on movies I wanted to see while I had time and an available friend) and enjoyed it. It's a bit odd that in a movie that exists for nostalgia they limited the amount of it in the film, but it's not as if not having Rocky visit Apolo's grave, Clubber Lang in attendance, Thunderlips revealed as an adult film director (what Sly said to Hogan on WWE.com), or Rocky making a hospital visit to a dying (of AIDS) Ivan Drago (something I read on wikipedia) made the film any better or worse. I enjoyed the fight and the build to it. Hearing Dixon's managers discuss PPV buys and marketing angles was something I found interesting too, probably the WON reader in me.

Finally saw it last night. Everyone else summed it up for me. Stallone did an excellent job in it, Dixon wasn't likeable, but was someone you could show sympathy for. Probably the best one since the first. I enjoyed all six, but the first and last are definately my favorites of the series.
