Guest korndogg123 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 AN UPDATE ON THE NATURALS’ CHASE STEVENS This past Tuesday at the “iMPACT!” tapings in Orlando, Florida, The Naturals’ Chase Stevens sustained a broken neck during a tag team bout against Lex Lovett and Buck Quartermain. During an attempted flip, Chase mistimed the move and came crashing down on his head and neck. Stevens gutted it out through the rest of the bout and was taken to a local Orlando hospital following the match. Video of the injury will be added later tonight – check back for an update. Doctors told Stevens he suffered what is known as an “Avulsion Fracture” of the C5 and C5 vertebrae, as well as a herniated C4. An avulsion fracture occurs when a ligament or tendon attached to a bone pulls away part of the bone. In terms of severity of the injury, Stevens suffered the mildest form of trauma associated with a broken neck. In other words, the TNA star is extremely lucky it wasn’t worse. Doctors informed Stevens he would be able to return to action as soon as the tingling was gone and there was no pain when he moved his neck side to side. As of Friday, Stevens was already pain-free. However, doctors would like the star to wait another week before stepping back into the ring. The usual recovery time for such an injury is 3-6 weeks, but athletes like Chase can recover much faster. When contacted by TNAwrestling.com, Chase Stevens had the following message for the fans: “Well, as everyone knows I have a broken neck. It’s not as bad as one may think, but trust me it could have been much, much worse. My C5 and C6 vertebrae are fractured and it’s going to take a few weeks to heal. A lot of people are wondering what it feels like to have something like this happen to you. Well, to be honest I wasn’t thinking of being hurt when it happened - I was thinking of how to get on my feet and finish my match. It wasn’t until I made the tag to Andy that I had that extra second to realize I couldn’t feel my hands and my back was slowly starting to tingle. I went for The Natural Disaster, only to drop poor Buck on his head and pin him. I sucked it up and made it to the curtain before showing pain of any sort. Today is a new day and I feel a lot better - I have gained all feeling back in my hands and back. I can move my head up and down and side to side. I’m a little sore, but I landed on my head for crying out loud! I’m supposed to be sore...lol I do feel about 95% and feel that I could wrestle now if the doctors would let me. I will be back for the Genesis PPV, so don’t worry I’m not out for long. Thanks you all for your concerns and support it means a lot to me!” Chase Stevens
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Broken neck but not even out of a PPV. That is one lucky sonofabitch. Good thing too.
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 The Naturals don't work a terribly high impact style as I recall, so as long as they're careful he could be okay, but I hope he;s smart and gets it taken care of the second he gets pain again
Guest Edgehead Report post Posted October 29, 2005 TNA seems to be the place for lucky escapes. How Kazarian didnt have his neck completely snapped in two by that Styles Clash back in July, 2003 i'll never know.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 Way to go, Chase. TNA should hype this up on air.
Guest Coffey Report post Posted October 29, 2005 I guess it's a good thing AMW won the belts off of them. To be honest, I've never been real high on AMW or The Naturals. They just...bore me. I dunno. It's like they have an old school feel to them but I don't like that feel.

Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 If TNA doesn't hype this all the fuck up...then yeah. IMO, they should go for a Lovett/Buck vs. Naturals feud for a little bit. It's quite easy: "you broke my neck, and now you pay." I don't mind Lex Lovett, either, and I dig the chemistry between Douglas and Stevens (though I don't think either man would do that good by themselves, since they just compliment each other too well), and Buck...I don't know who the hell he is, but since he's apparently Lovett's partner, run with it. mister foozel 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2005 You made it sound like the guy was dead! The insensitivity about this is frightening to me. Is this an angle?
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2005 Meltzer just posted that TNA won't be showing the match on Impact, and instead will air a Christopher Daniels dark match. And no, it wasn't an angle.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted October 30, 2005 TNA should ask Chase if he wants the match shown. GO WITH A CHASE/LOVETT FEUD. Sure, the matches prolly wouldn't be too good, but the feud would write itself, and I'm sure D'Amore and co. wouldn't be able to botch such a simple feud. It doesn't have to be epic, but it'd be something to push Lovett up the card a little bit and see if he can hold his own, as well as give The Naturals some more heat as babyfaces. Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted October 31, 2005 TNA seems to be the place for lucky escapes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I bet Chris Candido would disagree
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2005 I bet he wouldn't since TNA is one of the reasons he got his life back on track. Seriously, that's just plain old fucking disrespectful. The guy died because of the long-term effects of YEARS of drug abuse, not because of working in TNA. That's almost as disrespectful as the assholes that use Owen Hart's death as a way to say wrestling is "real," or whatever.
Failed Bridge 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2005 how is a staph infection related to long term drug use? He got the wound performing in for TNA, it got infected when some doctor didn't clean their shit and thus died because of it. No "lucky escape" for him. I'm not taking a dig at his death, I'm just saying TNA has had their unfortunate shit too.
Jebus 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2005 Candido's death had nothing to do with drug abuse which is the sad part.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 1, 2005 Sorry, my b. But still, the doctors not doing their jobs right doesn't have much to do with TNA.
