USC vs Texas

Recommended Posts

Guest *KNK*

Can we just go ahead and close this idiotic attempt to bait Dama into a flamewar? Starting a thread based on something that isn't even set up yet is tremendously idiotic.

With that, I'll start a Texas/Alabama thread because it would have the same "purpose".

A thread devoted to porter and dama's silly bitch banter isn't worth the space it takes up.

It wasn't baiting him into a flamewar, I did it so that we don't take up 2 pages in the weekly thread every week.

And Colorado will be ranked when Texas plays them and Texas has already stomped them once this season. Which means that it could turn into a trap.

Actually, that's not true. Colorado's losing to Iowa State this week, (take it to the bank, it's happening), so they probably won't be ranked for the Big XII Championship game. And Colorado's going to have so little confidence going in, there's no way they give Texas a real game. As far as I'm concerned, Texas clinched their Rose Bowl berth tonight when Miami beat Va. Tech.

As for USC, they do have some semi-challenging games remaining, but they've already gone through the toughest portion of their schedule, and I really can't see them losing the rest of the way. Cal's not even a Top 30 team, if Fresno is, it's just barely, and UCLA got exposed hardcore tonight. The odds of USC losing to a team that lost to Arizona by 38 are about the same as the odds of Reggie Bush dying before the game takes place.

You sure you want to take those odds on Bush dying? You do realize he lives in LA right?

I took offense because I know you don't like Texas Porter and you would come up with any excuse to say they're not that good. You told me before the season how much you hate Texas.

Yeah I go to OU. But my rampant homerism for just OU has died and I can see that Texas is clearly one of the best teams in the country and they need to play for that title.

Besides I never hated Texas that much in the first place. It always made OU look good anyway when they'd smash Texas and then Texas would run the table.

On top of that I've already said that the two teams I hate the most are Texas A&M and USC.

So say it's weird that I defend Texas but I know they're good and I want to see them in that title game. Especially because I like the underdog and since the whole board hates Texas and doesn't want to give them due I'll defend them.

Whether I like Texas or not, the fact remains: They are overrated. You crow on about how beating Ohio State legitimized Texas. No sorry, it didn't. They trailed OSU the entire game, only to come back in the closing minutes. Then they have a schedule where Fresno State probably would plow through as well. All the factors combined= overrated. I admit USC is a bit overrated as well, but not as overrated as Texas. Plain and simple. See, I can look at things a bit unbiased. You pick an underdog and defend them to the death, even when you are completely wrong.

But i'm not completely wrong. There's nothing overrated about Texas. Even the boys on ESPN that get down and suck off USC every week are saying that Texas is good. Hell your boy Corso that always seems to be inline for a good gang bang with the USC offense said he thought Texas was better than USC.

I'm not the only one seeing Texas as the leigtimate #2 team.

If Texas loses I think it's pretty clear they arn't the best one-loss team out there. But the simple fact remains: they are undefeated. And they are better than a Tyrone Protho-less Alabama, that I'm sure of. If USC and Texas win out then that is the best and obvious choice for the championship game.

To this point Alabama has played a weaker schedule than both USC and Texas. Their only win over a current Top 25 BCS team is Florida and their non-conference schedule included two Sun Belt teams. Now if they beat LSU, Auburn, and win the SEC title game then there would be an argument. At this point it is a "What If?" scenerio with Alabama as the argument for them over USC or Texas is very weak at the moment.

Actually now that I examined it, yeah Texas probably has a stronger schedule. If all three win out, then to be fair, the weakest schedule should lose out, which yeah would be USC.

I don't think strength of schedule should be the only determining factor. USC and Texas are rolling over their opponents right now, while Alabama has to do stuff like gut out an ugly win against a really bad Vols team that could have easily been a loss. While it's true that both Texas and USC have found themselves in some tough situations this season (Texas last week, USC against Arizona State) neither of them were are close to defeat as Bama was against Tennessee.

He's certainly not the only fan who does this. Here's a good, bizarre example:

Several weeks ago when USC was playing their nailbiter against Notre Dame, the announcer at the Ducks game let the crowd know the score late in the game with ND winning. Well some of us in the student section started cheering, and the way the rest of the crowd reacted you would think we were rooting against the Ducks or something. The next day the student paper ran an article about this very topic, where the author asked students why they were pulling for USC over Notre Dame (these being the very same people who were chanting "Fuck You, SC" no more than a few weeks beforehand) and the responses were all "we have to cheer for a Pac-10 team to play in the title game" and so on. Frankly, I was quite surprised people took that attitude.

Well, for Oregon it makes sense since they have an outside shot to play in a BCS game if USC ends the season ranked #1, and the Ducks finish at 10-1 with USC being their only loss.

I know that at the WSU game though, the whole stadium erupted when they announced that USC was behind in the 4th quarter.
