My diet journal

Recommended Posts

You're going to crash and burn.

And that's not me saying that because I don't like you - it's because it's true.

You can't lose 16.5 pounds in one week unless it's water weight and you're going to get really discouraged when that doesn't keep up.

My prediction: All back + 15 in 3 months.

Congrats man! DON'T LET PLATEAU'S GET YOU DOWN!

I dropped like 15 in my first two weeks. then it went slow. I've been on my diet a year and have plateau'd 4 times now. STICK WITH IT!

I've lost 70 lbs in the last year and it's changed my freaking life. Keep us updated.

Me too. Been on it for three days now. It's tough to give up bread with as much as I used to eat of it. The diet is expensive too.

Also, I had to stop drinking coffee in the morning which is killing me. I can use Splenda instead of sugar but the creamer is harder to come by.

I had to stop the Atkins diet today after feeling totally flushed in the face (like I did before recieving blood pressure meds), feeling weak, and almost blacking out causing me to barely keep from going head first into a wall.

I'm calling the doctor in the morning to see what to do, but I immediately had a can of Cambell's Chunky soup.

You don't need atkins if you just consume less than like 2000 calories a day or something isn't it?

You aren't going to lose a lot of weight just by cutting calories, but its probably a more sound way of going about it.

The math breaks down to this.

1 pound of fat = 3500 calories/7 days = 500 calories a day

If you cut back 500 calories a day from your regular eating habits, you'll lose 1 lb without doing any excercise, because your body will need to burn the fat stored in your body instead of the extra 500 calories its used to.

Most people are eating closer to 2500 calories a day than the recomended 2000, so if you were to follow the 2000 calorie rule, you'd lose a 1lb a week without any extra exercise. Not a whole lot, but the general concensus is that the faster you lose weight, the more likely you are to gain weight unless you make serious adjustments to your lifestyle. The only drawback is that eventually your metabolism corrects itself and you won't continue to see the weight loss happening without exercise, but its a good way to get started and lose a few pounds which is good motivation, and as long as you continue to stick to 2000 calories, you probably wont see any of the weight come back.

The best way I can say to cut out 500 calories is to switch to diet soda from regular. Consiuder that 1 can of soda has about 40 grams of carbs (x 4 calories per gram = 160 calories) in it, and you get the picture. This is why you don't necessarily need to go strict Adkins/Low Carb diet to get the benefits of it, just cut back on unnecessary carbs like in candy and soda. I could never do those diets because I love to eat pasta and rice, but pasta and rice are much better for you in their equal amount of carbs than a soda or a candy bar.

I was so close to going for a Bachelors degree in Nutrition instead of qutting Culinary Arts school after 2 years, but my scholarship was only for 2 years and I couldn't afford the extra 2 years.

I gave up all forms of soda. I only drink water, flavored water, V8, Orange Juice, and the occassional glass of milk.

I dunno. I'm waiting for the doctor to call back though so I can talk to him and see what happens. I found the average person is suppose to consume about 160 carbs a day. If that's true then going down to 20 seems a tad extreme.

Do not drink Diet Soda, either... supposedly, that Nutrasweet shit in there does many bad things to you. Plus, it tastes like dishwater.

ok, I found out what to do. I gotta get these strips from GNC that I take a piss on every few days or once a week. That will tell me if my body is still burning the fat and processing it and shit. Depending on what the piss strip says I could most likely add quite a bit of carbs to my diet. They're called Ketone Body Strips.

I've heard that, but I have strong doubts. Plus most diet sodas now use Splenda, or more commonly, aspartame.

But if that turns out to be true, I'm fucked. I use Splenda in Kool-Aid, coffee, or anything else that would need sugar, I drink a 12 pack of diet soda per day, I drink alcohol 2-3 times a week, and I smoke cigarettes.

R.I.P. Matt Young- If it weren't already a thread, it would need to be created.

A year ago I probably slammed 4 Cokes a day. When I started the diet I went to 4 a week. And now I just have them when I'm out, which is a couple times a week.

What weight are you starting at?

I haven't drank real soda in over a year.

Today I only ate tuna for lunch, pork chops and stuffing for dinner, and now I'm munching on a carrot. Well under 2000 calories.

I went to the store today and bought carrots, broccoli, and a lot of chicken soup.

Well. Nov 1st of last year I started at 292. I'm at 219 now. So stick with it like a motherfucker. If you don't screw it then it'll pay off for you.

You were on Atkins?

I didn't follow a strict diet code or anything, but yes. I did low carb. Lots of chicken, salads, veggies, and water. I've eased off it a little. But still trying to lose.

That's what I did. Lots of chicken (skinless, boneless), steamed vegetables and a small amount of pasta (because you do need some carbs, same as fat). Add to that some daily (or every other day) running/biking and you're set.

I was 5'9" and 203lbs in 1995, and after about a year and a half I was down to 125lbs. Obviously I went TOO far (I started college and I didn't own a scale), so I started to eat more carbs and work out tons and was soon at 140-145lbs. Right now I hover between 140lbs-150lbs, depending on how much I'm exercising (either running or JKD) during any given time period.

Ah yes. Those things. I did Atkins a few years ago. I actually lost 60 pounds in about five months. I have kept most of it off, through a different lifestyle. The idea has been to stay away from sweets and take up smoking.

The problem I had/have with Atkins is that when I do it, I go strictly by the book. I take vitamins and stay away from everything, even reduced carb milk, and carb-free chocolate, which gave me the shits. Steak, eggs, salad, vegetables and pork rhins do the trick. The problem is that this bores me, but I know it's the right way to go about it. Atkins isn't a diet, it is a lifestyle change. It's just as restrictive as being a vegan, or maybe more.

But yeah dude, keep it up. It's amazing what losing a lot of weight does to athletic performace. After I lost weight, I suddenly realized I had this thing called agility.

Well look now, it's a good thing you're doing something this. I'd imagine you weren't happy being so bulbous and large.

You need to see yourself not as someone who is overweight or out of shape, but as the someone you will become. Look into the future and see yourself lighter, happier, running through the fields of joy and picking the fruits of life.

Remember to take your time, because it's not all going to come off at once.

Life is a marathon, it's not a sprint.

This is going to sound weird but sometimes I think I need to lose weight and get in shape before I leave college and start my career.

Because I think that if I don't I'll start a career and not have time to get in shape or go out and have fun. It's like "hey nobody is going to care what i look like whenever i'm writing for a paper or magazine but shallow college girls will care!!!"

So yeah. I'm a senior already but I'll be a 5th year senior before I'm done here. So May of 2007.
