Bucknell wins in Syracuse, tonight.

Lolz... oh well. Poor Syracuse. Hopefully, they can win out through the rest of their annual cupcake non-conference schedule.

Bucknell is not a cupcake this year. They returned all 5 starters from the team that beat Kansas. Probably 3 of their guys would start/get legit minutes on most teams in the country.

When I saw that Bucknell game on Syracuse's schedule I thought "There's an upset." If you're going to schedule a jobber, schedule a JOBBER.

Thus far the Big East hasn't really looked so macho. WVU finished last in the Guardians thing among the 4 real teams in it. Cuse has lost to FL and Bucknell already. U of L can barely beat Division 2 teams. UConn and Nova should run away with the conf.

Oh, I know they're not... Kansas and Pittsburgh could tell you that.

But, when this game was scheduled... it was figured as jobber central. Hehe. Not that I hate Syracuse, because they used to basically be my home college team. But, they're pusses.

Meanwhile, in my favorite conference. The Independents. Savannah St. is still playing as strong as ever. A strong 83-23 loss in Oregon. Keep fighting, ugly Tigers logo. Also, new entrant, the South Dakota St. Jackrabbits look like they may be decent... playing competitively in Illinois and Kentucky. I eagerly await their matchups with Corpus Christi and the IPFW MASTODONS.

I was lurking on the rivals.com forums, a.k.a. where all idiot UK and Louisville fans post on the Internet, and some UK fan posted that the pitiful SEC leads the mighty Big East 2-1 in head to head competition.

Where did JR Giddens transfer to?

Kansas and Oklahoma State are really young this year while Oklahoma and Texas are seasoned. The Big XII landscape will be different this season.

New Mexico. Hopefully, he doesn't get himself stabbed again.

Well I know Florida beat Cuse but what's the other win for the SEC over the Big East?

Probably Kentucky over WVU.

Oh duh, how could I forget UK over WVU since I watched that game last night. Somehow WVU has never seemed "Big East" to me. Not like Cuse or UConn, St. John's, etc. Note though that the SEC's wins have been by the two decent teams in the conf. I mean put WVU against some jobber like Ole Miss and they'd obviously win.

As far as Gonzaga goes, I'm not getting my hopes up on them. I've been burned too many times of late by picking Gonzaga in my bracket. I don't particularly think Mark Few is a great coach, or at least he's not when he has to go against masters like Bob Knight or Lute Olsen in a tourney game. I might put them in my bracket to go far again but wouldn't be shocked if they get beat down by Wyoming or Nevada again.

The problem with Gonzaga is that they rely too much on the outside shot, and don't have enough big sized talent. It's tough to go far in the tournament like that. And unless they have a lights out like 28-2 season, the best they can really do is a 3 seed. Therefore, they're facing top teams from the 2nd game on. Odds are they won't last.

Well no shit. Put UK and Florida against some BE bottom feeders and the SEC teams would obviously win.

Let me just put this out there: I hate Duke and JJ Reddick is a sloppy, throbbing vagina. He comes from a long line of bitchy, whiney Duke players like Christian Laettner. Fuck them.

Well, Duke wins in a game that was ALOT closer than one would think from the scoreboard. Drexel played them tough, and lasted until the end, so lets not just put it on Duke for shitty play. Meija from the Dragons was definetely impressive out there.

I agree with Alro, JJ Reddick is a pussy. He's the epitome of whiney ass Duke players. It's going to be fun seeing him job away the National Championship in the Spring.

Redick.

And I felt bad for him when he cried that the crowd was mean.

Because, you're all JEALOUS.

Go Dook.

I still don't understand why I'm supposed to pull for a cocky Memphis player who got exactly what he deserved when he missed those free throws last year. As far as J.J. Redick goes, hear some of the stuff the crowd says about the guy and you'll understand why he is on edge. I can understand not liking Duke, but what some of the fans say to the kid is downright disgusting.

Does Duke pull that same thing that the Lakers and Jordan did? When they get a foul they call the ref over and argue like "We're Duke! You can't call us!"

I believe they call the ref over and say, "if I act like I'm talking to you, cynical people will think I'm complaining about the call."

With Stanford's embarassing home loss to UC Irvine last weekend, Arizona losing to Michigan State today (not a bad loss but a game they should win if they are a Top 10 team), and now UCLA getting pummeled by Memphis it is apparant that the Pac-10 is going to be all kinds of awful this year.

They desperately need to get a t.v. deal with ESPN again as being on FSN in recent years I believe is killing their recruiting. I know why they left ESPN back in the mid-90s because they would put them a late time slot after SportsCenter but at least you'd get ESPN hype for the conference. ESPN is very much into over hyping what's on their channel (and ABC) and giving other sports coverage a backseat and Pac-10 basketball doesn't get much attention on the channel when they get into conference play. Also FSN games are going to get often pre-empted by local sports coverage. The channel also doesn't have the type of lead in or the ability to hype their games like ESPN does.

I'll laugh when Michigan State punks out Duke in again in April and Dookie Vitale is in a hospital with his life-support being Laettner's shot on loop...

And the reason most people hate Redick is because of Vitale diving on his knees to give verbal fellatio every time he's on TV...

Doesn't look like it's hurt the football side.

K, let's please not have a year of Dook bashing here, please?  :)

And try avoiding ESPN.

Only if you can promise us that you won't go into Iggy/Georgia Tech levels of Fellatio this year, okay? ;)

I won't. :)

I'm a very rare college bball fan that has no affiliations... since I grew up in Western New York where every team sucks (except for Bonaventure like 35 years ago), and nobody cares about them anyway.

JustJoe, the Duke/Memphis game tonight is the equivalent of a heel vs. heel matchup. To be honest I think Memphis should win that game. They are all sorts of fast and talented, but the problem they have is brainlock.

If Memphis doesn't beat Duke I think IU might do it. I'm not giving Texas much of a shot at it, they impressed me little in the Guardians Classic even though they won.

Dama, are you kidding me???? In the days before Huggins made Cincy the uber asshole cocksuckers of C-USA, Memphis were the scum of the earth in the old Metro days. Their coach (Dana Kirk) was put in prison over tax evasion or something like that. Their fans are for the most part total white trash, some of whom did things like throw knives at U of L players.

Now they have that bastard Calipari, who does the most blatant and sickening ref baiting of any coach in the country. As my brother said "I hate Calipari even worse than John Chaney. Chaney is at least kind of a guilty pleasure nowdays...Calipari isn't even a guilty pleasure."

Not to mention they also have that little bastard Darius Washington, who got a well earned comeuppance by missing the FTs in the C-USA finals last year.

Sure, most people hate Cincy (or now that Huggins is gone just don't care) but a lot of people don't think as much about Memphis since they haven't been relevant in 20 years. So tonight when Duke plays Memphis no matter who loses I win.
