Horror Updates

Recommended Posts

First some release date changes. Australian horror flick "Wolf Creek" has been moved up to Christmas this year. The festival favorite (which topped the Australian box office this week, and was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at this years Sundance Film Festival) has recieved mostly positive word of mouth so far, and has been dubbed by Fangoria as the scariest movie of the year.

Also, As I mentioned last week, Eli Roth's "Hostel" will now be released on Feb. 6th, 2006. It's competition will be a remake of "When a strange Calls"

Next up, Uwe Boll's latest disaster "BloodRayne" has run into trouble, and not with the fact that he directed it. As it turns out, the MPAA diagreed with some scenes of violence, gore, and blood-sucking, and has slapped the film with an NC-17 rating. Here's what Kristanna Loken had to say:

I remember one time looking at myself [in a mirror] and only seeing my blue eyes and all the rest red.  It was after a scene where I wiped out half a dozen people and sucked the blood out of them. We had blood made out of powdered chocolate. We had a gore unit. I was disturbed at my own reflection. I think the part that really turned my stomach was when I stabbed this guy through the eye and blood comes through."

Finally, Japanese Horror directorKiyoshi Kurosawa's film "Pulse" (which has become something of an instant classic for some horror fans, and yes, will have an American remake) will be opening in a limited relase today. The film deals with ghosts and supernatural evil on the internet.

They pushed Hostel's release back to February? Dammit.

That's disappointing, I'm really looking forward to that.

In other news, the release date for "The Woods" is now...2006. That's it, just 2006. Christ, I remember when the release date was 2005. This is pissing me off.

if there were any justice, Kairo would have a huge release and make shitloads of money. It's easily one of the best horror movies I've ever seen.

Saw the trailer for the Pulse american remake with the chick from Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell?) over the weekend and from the preview, it looks fucking tremendous. When is the original on HDMovies?

My Tivo doesn't have it listed as showing in the next two weeks.

I have a hunch that like the other two movies they did the dual premiere with, it wont be on again, at least not any time soon.

Id be interested in seeing the remake, even though I doubt it will be as good as the original.

I'm waiting on two horror movies

The Woods

and

"They call me Bruce"

They Call Me Bruce is being produced by Dark Horse Indie, the new joint venture production company created by Dark Horse Entertainment and Image Entertainment. Popular actor and Oregon resident Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, Army of Darkness) is set to star and direct. He will also produce the project with another Oregon resident, Dark Horse president Mike Richardson.

They Call Me Bruce is the tale of a small town set upon by demons after a group of teen-agers unwittingly unleash an ancient curse. Campbell, playing himself, is kidnapped off the set of a B horror movie and, despite his protestations that he's just an actor, is forced to play the role of his heroic movie character in order to save the town. Mark Verheiden (The Mask, TimeCop) is writing the screenplay. Production is scheduled for early 2006 in southern Oregon.

Couple of others peak my interest but these are the two I'm really looking forward to. One will go straight to DVD and the other should have been released a fucking year ago god dammit.

If the Dark Horse "Aliens" comics are any indication of Verheiden's talents, we're in for a fucking treat. The Mask was decent and Timecop would have been that much better were it anybody but Van Damme (and I mark for JCVD), but yeah. Didn't he also write Starship Troopers? Or did Paul Verhoeven write the screenplay and direct it as well?

No, Mark Verheiden didn't have anything to do with Starship Troopers. He has wrote episodes of "Smallville", "Battlestar Galactica", "Freakylinks", and the enjoyable "Marshall Law" (well I enjoyed it anyway) to go along with Timecop and The Mask.

I have no doubt it'll be very well written and funny to boot.
