Does anyone like actually going to the games?

Recommended Posts

Phillies games are ok, except with drunk morons that do Eagles chants. Sixers games are kinda boring. Flyers games are fun to go to, and Eagles games are tons of fun, but you do have to possess a great tolerance of drunken morons. I've been to a couple PSU games, they're fun as all hell.

There's a part of me that wants to go to an Eagles game just to start a Phillies chant.

I enjoy minor league baseball tremendously. There's less fooling around and wasting time, and everything's cheaper.

Baseball. Didn't mind going with several friends to 3 Rivers/Reds games. Nice place to sit, get some sun and watch a game. Now that PNC was built with my tax dollars, I figure I've contributed enough to that shithole of a team.

Football. Went to a few games as a kid. Hated it because every time a pass was thrown everyone stood up, blocking my view. Went to a MNF game in the early 90's when the Steelers shut out the Bills, but I don't miss the experience.

Hockey. I can see why people would like going to the game rather than watch it on TV, but I'll pass, even though I went to a few Pens games.

Basketball. No pro team where I live.

Overall, I'm quite content putting the game on the tube...

I didn't like going to Southern Miss games when I was in college, but that was more of a function of what I was expecting as a life-long LSU fan.

I went to Southern Miss vs. Texas A&M as my first Southern Miss game and, because it was a daytime game, I got burned red as a lobster.

That was an experience I DIDN'T have often at LSU, as LSU usually played at 6:30 PM or later unless it was a televised game on Jefferson Pilot (11AM) or CBS (2:30).

The Southern Miss game I liked the most was when I went to New Orleans to see them whip the shit out of Tulane at the Superdome.

Nothing like watching your team win, being in a climate-controlled arena, and getting a beer all while at a college game.

I'd like to attend a golf tournament, as well... never really had the chance, though.

Scottsdale looks like it might be fun, though.

I have been to a bunch of UCLA games at the rose bowl over the last decade and I have found that the end zone seats are just fine. (despite that now even those GA seats cost 35 bucks) I went to the Oklahoma game this year and had a good time (we got in about 15 mins before kickoff so no prob) The concessions stand prices there now seem to equal big laegue stadiums.

I have had a ton of fun at high school games back in the day (since now my alumni has dropped to complete suckitude and just finished an impressive 0-10 campaign :D )

Outside of the Masters, it'd definitely be Scottsdale for me as well. The golf is always entertaining anyway, let alone the incredile atmosphere of the galleries.

Sometimes Canadians need to be popped off on...

I'll have you know that when I went to Toronto, I only knocked over one garbage can

The best experience I've had at a baseball game was a bunch of guys yelling 'We Want Shawn Green!' at Raul Mondesi. I need to get to a game that's actually played on grass sometime, though. Enough of that astroturf.

The new FieldTurf is a 100% improvement.

The last baseball game I went to was the Palmeiro Ear-Plug game. I haven't seen Jays fans that loud since the World Series years.

Hey Dama, I know what you're talking about. I've occasionally had people talk me into going early to football games, and then "sat" in the student section where no one's allowed to sit down the entire football game, and yes it's miserable.

What you really need to do is buck the crowd, show up right around kickoff, and just sit wherever you can. (End zone seats are perfect if you can sit there with student admission.) Also, if you can smuggle an alcoholic beverage in, that will help tremendously.

I've found that what I really enjoy at college is the basketball games. It's only a two hour commitment, and you can usually find a perfectly good seat ten minutes before tipoff. You can sit down except when standing up is actually warranted, it's warm (probably not a problem in Oklahoma), and nobody checks at the gate to see if you have a Coke and rum in your pocket. Honestly, it's tons of fun to think up creative insults for the FT shooters when you're a little trashed, and by the last five minutes or so, you're really into the game.

Hockey: I went to Habs games at both the Forum and Bell Centre and had great times. I've also been to a few Flames games (in support of the Red Wings). One of them was a play-off game in 2004 and you haven't lived until you've been pelted with garbage for supporting your team. It got so bad that the ushers had to step in. Despite all that, the atmosphere was incredible and it still ranks as the loudest crowd I've ever heard.

Football: I've attended both Stamps and Als games and the Als have the best crowd and game experience in the CFL bar none. While vacationing in Toronto, I saw the NFL American Bowl between the Bills and Packers in Skydome and that was pretty cool.

Baseball: Went to a few Expos games when I lived in Montreal. The games were fine but Olympic Stadium was a terrible place for baseball.

All in all I'd say I love going to live sporting events and do so whenever time and money permits.

Baseball is easily my favorite sport to watch live since there's always something happening on the field. I've been to five different MLB stadiums and the atmosphere and experience was different at each, which helps me enjoy it more.

NFL games are great fun as well but can be brutal at times with all the TV timeouts, replay challenges, and other unnecessary stoppages of play since there is nothing to do but stand around for those four minutes.

I went to Kyle Field to see A&M vs. Ok St a few years ago and that was...interesting. Those Aggies have quite the little cult going on there. Fun game though, and it went OT.

I try to catch one Rockets game a year, but I have a hard time getting into basketball. The Rockets' ticket prices are way too high for me to really enjoy it.

And, even though I understand very little about hockey, I've been to see the minor league Aeros here a couple of times. We sat third row behind the glass last time and saw some sucker get slammed into it right in front of us and get his nose broken. It was awesome.

Hockey games: Been to pro games in Boston (obviously), Philly, MSG, Toronto, Montreal, Buffalo, & Detroit. It's far and away the sport that gains the most from being there live, compared to watching it on TV. I have no problems getting to the arena for the pre-game skate around, and staying interested even during the Zamboni clean-ups and whatnnot. I've been to a bunch of AHL games, too ... same thing: awesome live, especially since everything (tix, food, beers) is so inexpensive.

Baseball & Basketball games: Been to a ton of Red Sox games, but also to Comiskey Park , Wrigley Field & Yankee Stadium. I find baseball to be uber-boring, though, so I might prefer to watch a game than be at it live. At least on TV I can flip around between pitches. I tend to get over-drunk at Sox games, just for something to do. Basketball is pretty much the same: I don't care enough about who wins/loses, so I'm really just there more than enjoying the game per-se.

Football games: Tailgating beats actually being in the stadium. I do have to admit, though, that I didn't really go to a football powerhouse for college, so it was easy to go to games w/o the bullshit that Dama referenced to start this thread.

I can tolerate the loud, obnoxious drunks as long as they're cheering for my team. If they're really stupid just get a good laugh out of it, don't take it so seriously :headbang:
I hate it when fans think that they're part of the show, and try to be the 'funny guy' of the section. Far too often, it's just a loudmouth drunk yelling slurred insults that make little-to-no-sense.

Oh great, another American popping off on Canadians. Will this fucking shit ever end? Give it up already.
Canadians booed the US anthem. Repeatedly. Even when a Hab legend prefaced the anthem with a request NOT to. Booing the anthem is bushleague.

I absolutely love going to games. Besides concerts, it's my favorite thing to do. I'll usually go to 2 or 3 Eagles games a year, 5 or 6 Flyers and Sixers games and 20 Phillies games.

For the arriving 2 hours early to Oklahoma games, I would think that would be an absolute blast. Sneak in some liquor, or get boozed up beforehand and hang out with all of the college kids. Shit, we used to have a blast doing that for U of Delaware football games. It should be 100 times more fun for a large program like that.
