Survivor: Guatemala

Recommended Posts

Ok it's been a prety good season so far but I hate when people get into their tight knit groups and they just smugly get rid of people. It makes the show boring b/c you know who is going where.

Gary was my favorite and now he's gone b/c EVERYONE turned on him. I was sure that Rafe was going to turn on Judd after finding out what a liar he was. I hope Judd goes soon.

At this point the only people I could stomach winning this game are Rafe and Danni. I can't stand Steph(she's a bitch), Judd(he's an ass), or Cindy(she's a smug bitch).

I've been watching, Dama.

Survivor sucks now that it's just a race to see who can form the strongest alliance. It's cool watching the old seasons on OLN because it's not unusual for 3-4-5 people get votes each time they go Tribal. (I only started watching Survivor with any regularity a couple of seasons ago, so the old ones are new to me.)

Now it's just the clique voting off the minorities, it seems.

Having said all that, I'm with you: if anyone besides Danni or Rafe wins, I'll be bullshit. The former because she's very, very hot. The latter because he deserves to win.

If Judd or Steph win, I'll be irate.

Rafe is in a great position right now. He may be the strongest player in the game right now, but no one really notices it because of his look and style.

Right now, I'll be content with anyone except Judd or Lydia winning. Judd is just the biggest fucking asshole I've seen on Survivor in a long time.

I've been watching. I've seen most of the Survivors, and this season is my least favourite. There's just nobody left to root for. Although, I'd love if Steph (who acts as though her Survivor win is a rightful and foregone conclusion) makes it to the final two only to get beaten by a weaker player since the jury will be so bitter.

Hopefully, Judd gets booted soon. Given how ridiculously hot-tempered he is, his jury speech should provide some amusement.

Stephenie wouldn't be able to win a jury vote against anybody but Lydia, I don't think. Maybe Judd if he becomes too much of a nuisance, but he hasn't yet. She was already on the show before, whoever is up against her would exploit that. Jamie already doesn't like her. The only way for her to win is to fine someone even less deserving of winning, which is basically Lydia at this point.

I've hated Judd for a while now, and I thought Rafe looked pissed when Gary brought up the idol lie and was going to change his vote, but he didnt. I was shocked that Danni turned on Gary too. I hope that either Danni wins because she was supposed to leave with Gary and Bobby Jon right after the merge but she survived, or Rafe wins, just because he deserves it the most. I liked Steph a lot last season, but she's been a bitch this season. The only good thing to her winning would be the whole backstory of last season. Cindy is strong, but she hasn't really taken any control and doesnt deserve to win. Lydia winning would be funny just because of her size and who she is. I see the order of elimination from here going Lydia, Danni, Cindy, Judd, Steph..with Rafe as the winner.

You're right. They form this little clique and just pick people off with numbers. There is no strategy there.

That is strategy. This happens in every Survivor and pretty much the only way to win is to end up in the 4 or 5 person clique. The only time I can remember someone outside the dominant four or five was the Survivor before last when the one guy ended up stuck with the 5 woman alliance and then somehow pitted all the women against each other. That was great, but that was the exception. There are always people that go into the game saying "I'm gonna have integrity and I'm not gonna have an alliance and I'm gonna win it all" and they NEVER do. Richard figured out the game in the first season and to date forming a four or five person alliance and picking people off is the best strategy to follow. And though that does sound boring at first, it is the dissension in the ranks between these finalists that creates the drama. Jamie was supposed to be in the "clique" but he blew it and now we have a new clique. This almost always happens in some form each year too, like when Ian blew it last year and Tom ended up in the finals with Katie or in Africa when Kim won two immunity challenges out of nowhere to knock out Tom and Lex. Also, if Rafe doesn't win this year, I'll be shocked.

The reason I'm not a huge fan of that play, is that too often the lesser members of the alliance turn down better oppurtunities to stay in that clique. There are always pecking orders within those cliques and those in the back (in this case Stephenie & Judd) never seem to figure it out until they are gone. Or very rarely, the odd time they do, like in Amazon with Rob.

Oh everybody on All-Star was fucking braindead. There was no way that Boston Rob should've gone that far.

Other Rob. The guy with the Magic 8 Ball from Amazon. He was in the power alliance, then ditched them when he found out that he was the odd man out. He eventually got taken out in the Final 3 because he was too much of a threat to win.

I see what you're saying....but on the subject of Boston Rob......everyone was fucking braindead!

And I think Steph is manipulating her way to the top this time and everyone feels sorry for her b/c it was her against everyone last time.

The right person has one Survivor the past 2 seasons(Chris and Tom) and now it looks like an underserving player will take it this time.

I agree with most of what you say. All-Stars was the worst season ever. There were such bad moves made by Lex and company throughout the entire thing, and it ended with someone who didn't belong anywhere near an 'All-Star' edition winning the whole thing. Terrible season.

But I do think Rafe will end up winning this one, and he is probably the most deserving (followed by Cindy) so I don't have any complaints about this season yet. Even though Gary was my favourite.

I gotta say Marquesas is the worst season ever. I enjoyed it during its original airing but watching the reruns on OLN were a chore. No interesting or original characters except for Rob (who got voted out before even making the jury) and Sean (who was really whiny and annoying half the time). The only memorable scene on the whole show for me was Sean and Paschal's island feast together. Great Survivor moment.Thailand might be worse though, I recall not being big on that one but I'll give it another shot.

I enjoyed All-Stars even though it was the most blatantly obvious final two ever. I don't understand why Tom or Lex or Rupert or anyone did anything to stop it, they were really afraid of Rob for some reason.

And what the heck has Cindy done to deserve to win? I didn't even know she was on the show until a couple of weeks ago! That always seems to happen, you hit the merge and there's one person you've never even noticed on the show before. You're thinking, "How did this person make it this far," and then they end up in the final four before you know it.

Because she's Rafe's sidekick, and he's controlling the game right now. Plus, she hasn't been very obvious about it, which is why Gary & Danni thought she was the best option to turn to their side. She doesn't deserve it more than Rafe, but she is better than Steph & Judd. Lydia & Danni are finished so unless something big happens we shouldn't be bothering to discuss them.

Marquesas was terrible too. I agree with that. But I liked Thailand. Brian was one of the best Survivor players ever. Somehow he convinced practically everyone on his team that he was going to the Final Two with them, and when it came down to it he was able to take the most hated player there (Clay) with him and win an easy vote despite the fact that he had betrayed everybody on the jury.

I've seen all of them. From best to worst, not including this year.

Borneo

Africa

Palau

Pearl Islands

Thailand

Vanuatu

Australia

Amazon

Marquesas

All-Stars

It used to be traditional for the odd number shows (the fall shows usually) to be great and for the even number ones (the spring shows) to blow, but it was broken last year.

Didn't think Thailand rated as high as you put it, but Brian was fucking brilliant, and aside from Shii An's sarcasm there really wasn't anything great about it.

I tend to flip flop on whether ASS was good or bad. On one hand, there was a lot of boring shit with people like Jenna and Amber being, well, Jenna and Amber, but you also had Lex being an idiot and Boston Rob taking advantage of the inexplicable collective brainfart.

But anyways, my ranking of the seasons:

Borneo - Often imitated, never duplicated

Palau - You know, the one where Steph isn't bitchy

Pearl Islands - Except for the part where Lil gave Sandra the win

Africa - Cindy is about where Ethan was in the game

Australia - Colby is still an idiot

ASS - See above. Could've used Brian in this, but he wasn't an idiot.

Thailand - See above

Amazon - Rob C saved this game from being boring as hell

Marquesas - One moment of brilliance (the "How Dumb Are You?" Reward Challenge that helped bring about the power shift), and not enough Boston Rob.

Vanuatu - Chris takes advantage of the ladies PMSing and wins. And I'm still trying to figure out how a man-hater like Ami ended up in Playboy (pre-Survivor).

I've been enjoying Guatemala so far, and my mystery for this year is how Danni still has an ass after 29 days.

I don't care how she has it, just as long as she keeps it. She fires me up like few other Survivor competitors ever have.

My rankings of the seasons, minus Amazon:

Australia - Lots of great characters and moments in this one, the game came into its own here and proved it was more than just a reality show. There's a reason Survivor is still around and all its byproducts have fallen by the wayside.

Borneo - Watching this a second time it was amazing how much has changed in the past ten seasons. Still, the original season has stood the test of time quite well.

Africa - Didn't watch this during its original run, the first couple of episodes bored me. Watching it on OLN I found that the first 2 or 3 episodes are still hard to watch because I really can't stand some of the castaways. Once the tribes switch members, however, the game finally gets interesting and it only keeps getting better. A lot of great characters on this show, it's a shame they couldn't have gotten a few more for All Stars.

Palau - Tom, Ian, Kobe, Steph, Bobby Jon, and all the rest made this a heck of a game. Probably the only time the person I was rooting for from the beginning actually won.

Pearl Islands - Rupert and Jonny Fairplay made this game, two of the best characters in Survivor history. It would rank higher but to this day I believe Sandra is the least deserving Survivor winner yet. Watching this a second time will be interesting to see how exactly that happened. I remeber on the reunion show after Sandra was announced the winner she was never spoken to again for the rest of the night. Very telling.

All Stars - I really enjoyed this season despite all the hate. Seeing everyone play the game again was a lot of fun for me. Fairplay got screwed out of this show though. He could have gone on this show without anyone else knowing of his trickery since it was taped during the airing of his season. Would've been great.

Vanuatu - Pre merge is crap but Chris's mindgames with the girls saves the season.

Thailand - Shii ann is to date my least favorite Survivor player. The crazy rocker guy, I think his name was Robb, the guy who choked Clay, made the season watchable though.

Marquesas - Doesn't hold up well on second viewing.

Danni has an ass but Cindy has nice boobies.

I of course went to the Survivor: Amazon finale(if anyone wants to know the story i'll tell it later. i think everyone has heard it). I didn't watch Pearl Islands but I've watched Vanuatu, All-Stars, Palau, and Guatemala.

I hated All-Stars because of how everyone let Rob push them around and acted braindead about it.

I liked Vanuatu b/c I hated the women and loved Chris taking it.

I liked Palau b/c I wanted Tom to win and he did it.

I'm so far not liking this one b/c someone I don't like may win.

I loved tonight's show. The editing made it painfully obvious who was going home and it was just gleeful to watch, since Judd deserved all of it.

Ditto, that was awesome.

Although, it seems to have been a terrible move on Stephanie's part. At a whim, she votes off her closest ally (less than three days after he shared the reward challenge with her - ha)? Everyone in the jury has a grudge against Steph right now, and I can't see any way that she'll be able to win, if she even makes it to the final two.

With Jamie, Gary and Judd, this is shaping up to be the most entertaining final Tribal Council jury grilling they've ever had. Anyone care to bet on how many times Judd will say "man", "scumbags" or "I never lied, man" in his jury speech?

Ransome, you forgot "damn" in your list of words that Judd will over-use in the final TC. Every damn sentence he says includes that damn word at least a few damn times, even at damn intervals that don't make much damn sense.

I thought tonight was a swank episode, even though (like Kahran pointed out) the way it was presented made it pretty obvious who was getting 86ed. The fact that Judd had just finished his 'everyone wants someone to go home tonight, and it's just too damn bad for that person' spiel right before getting voted off was hilarious. He went from being so antagonistic and cocky to being so humiliated and angry ... just awesome TV.

Plus, any episode that shows Danni doing gymnastics in her little outfit ... hmm, hmm, tasty.

nl5xsk1, you scumbag, I don't understand what the damn deal is about that, man. Judd just says every damn thing like it damn well is, man. Unlike those scumbags left in the competition, man. All I can say is, man, I'm damn sure ready to hear what Judd has to say about those damn scumbags, man.

Man, I'm gonna miss having that damn scumbag around next week.

Yep. Danni's going to look hot a week from Sunday, since she'll have eaten at that point. Steph... not so much. I think we've seen that Steph looks better without makeup.

I'm wondering if Judd was dropping bigger & better swears a lot of the time, and was asked to tone it down a little, and thus is using damn in liue of 'fucking' or 'G*d-damn' or something like that. Watch, it'll all be edited and CBS is just inserting the damn instead of a less TV-friendly curse word.

And I think Steph will look better this time, at the reunion special, purely because she'll have learned how to present herself better. Much the same way she got her eyebrows waxed before this season, giving her that perpetual surprised look.

Regardless of that hag, though, I'm dying to see Danni as she normally looks. I wonder if she'll be one of the ones that looks better on the island than off.

He'll probably just have to censor himself, Bernie Mac style.

Here's some photos. Mostly professional ones. And probably 6-8 years ago at that.
