NFL Week XIII

Recommended Posts

Seattle isn't at the point where I actively hate them, but they do sort of annoy me. I used to kinda like them back when they had the ultra pimp jerseys, but once they changed to their current look I stopped caring.

The past couple of years Seattle annoyed me because they got hyped as being so great in the preseason and then come the reg. season they would tank. After tonight the Seahawks will be 10-2, but they aren't remotely a 10-2 caliber team, so in that respect I can see why Dama dislikes them. The Seahawks are a total 10-6 type team, but are getting those miracle bullshit plays much like the 2001 Bears.

Just to say this, that's definitely more than a couple. I just hate the Steelers and the Packers.

Wow you can't just leave it alone. You just have to nitpick for some reason to start shit.

For me it's primarily the Packers and the Bears, with Tampa still carrying some minor hate from their days in the old North.

Sometimes I'll actively root against teams that irk me for some reason (ex: Indy and Pitt) or coaches that irk me (ex: Rottenheimer and Martz), but I don't really hate them

That wasn't my intent. You look too deep into things.

Also, what's wrong with saying that hating 11 of 32 teams is more than hating a couple? That's 1/3 of the whole league!

Well from listening to you guys in the college fb threads I should hate every team except my team. Well I do hate a lot of NFL teams. So what? Am I supposed to cheer for some magic number and only hate the teams in my division?

Check with me on the NBA and you'll find that I hate a good deal of teams there too.

Miracle Plays? If three times a sudden gust of wind, or low flying bird prevented a FG from be made than it's probably a miracle. Feely just missed three FG's. The good teams seem to catch the breaks.

I find it hard to care enough to hate the non-division rivals. Sure I hate the Favre is god treatment, but not to the point where I hate the Packers. I hate the fact I constantly get Jets games, because apparantly living in South Jersey means I would be a Jets fan. But other than that I only hate the division teams, since there is no reason to hate any others.

I was surprised McMahon didn't get killed right off with all that running he was doing. They need to do stuff like this in the playoffs instead of dropping 30 passes, though.

I liked how Richard Seymour went off on fans for cheering Gisele Bundchen more than they did the players. Hey, not the fans' fault for that game being an absolute bore to sit through.

Funny enough, those are two of my favorite teams, Green Bay obviously being a distant #1. If I weren't such a Packer fan, I'd probably be a pretty big Steeler fan. I love their tradition, history, and they have awesome fan support, not to mention the coolest uni's in the league (especially before they changed the font for the numbers on the jersey).

I'd have to say the only teams I really hate are the Eagles (more for their fans than the team, I really only couldn't stand the team circa 2000-2001) and Vikings. I guess I'm obliged to hate the Bears being a Packer fan, but I think that's more of a regional thing and I'm not from that region as a lot of you know, so I dislike them, but in a respectful rivalry sort of way. I'm really apathetic towards the Lions. I hated the Broncos briefly, especially after Super Bowl XXXII but I don't mind them now. Must be the Elway thing, couldn't stand him. Colts and Giants kind of irk me as well. But yeah, I don't think I hate any other team more than the Viqueens.

My hate for the Steelers and Packers is a respectful type of hate. I don't like either, but I have the most respect for both organizations.

Why was that? Sure they were very dull to watch as a fan other than McNabb (when he actually...GASP...ran), but odd that they would be someone another team's fan would hate since they didn't have a real attitude/swagger or the few years of blowjobs they have had lately.

I think the consensus that one should feel apathetic at best towards his non-favorite team(s) is correct. I dislike the Ravens and Browns, am apathetic towards the Bungles (who really cares about a team whose fans only come out to play when they have a winning record?), and don't care about any other team in the NFL generally (although, I'm a bit of a closet Carolina Panthers fan, partially because they're my fiance's favorite team and being a new football fan, it's imperative that her favorite team wins to continue my ability to watch football on Sundays).

I'm convinced now that the Seahawks and the Bears are going to the NFC title game. They're just going to maul anyone on offense (Bears) and just about any other defense (Seattle) who gets in their ways. Sure, it was the Eagles who got their ass's handed to them and all, however, they're still no one's whipping boy...until tonight.

Goddamn, that was an ass whupping of a game for the Iggles. This was like watching the '85 Bears/Cowboys game on NFL films. Seattle just beat the dog piss out of Philly in this game.

Fuckin Cowboys...

I'm thinking that Carolina might find a way into the NFC title game. They are sneaking in under the radar and most are forgetting all about them.

I know this seems oversimplified, but I don't see any of the NFC teams being good enough to win a playoff game on the road. So right now that would be Chicago going to Seattle in the title game. Chicago's D is great, but it would only take 13 points to beat them as I don't see Orton going on the road, in a title game and playing mistake free.

I'm not entirely sold on Seattle yet. Both of their losses came to teams with extremely physical defenses (Jacksonville and Washington) and the only truly impressive wins on their schedule were against Dallas and New York. When they can beat a physical defense, then I'll start thinking about them as Super Bowl contenders.

I would say out of those two it will depend on who gets HFA for who goes to the Super Bowl. If I'm Seattle, I do not want to have to go to Chicago in January...

Depends on what you are looking for though. Do I think they are SB contenders? No. But I think right now they get out of the NFC. I don't see any NFC team beating Indy.

BTW, Indy clinches the conference with a win this week and a Denver loss (Baltimore at Denver).

Rex Grossman will be ready to play by playoff time IIRC. That will only help the Bears and allow Kyle Orton a chance to rest if he needs it.

I think either Chicago or Carolina will be the team that takes the NFC. IF Atlanta gets in, I'd watch out for them too.

Actually, Grossman is already active and was listed as Orton's backup. My guess is that the Bears just don't want to mess with success at this point. Grossman seems like he shown flashes of being a good QB, but for all we know he could just turn out to be incredibly inconsistent and not much of a better option than Orton.

The Bears' problem is the same as last year- no offensive line protection, and their receiving corps absolutely stinks. I hate to admit it as a fan of their division archrival, but these Bears remind me a little bit of the Eagles that got to the first NFC Championship game, with a much better running game and shittier quarterback.

Why was that? Sure they were very dull to watch as a fan other than McNabb (when he actually...GASP...ran), but odd that they would be someone another team's fan would hate since they didn't have a real attitude/swagger or the few years of blowjobs they have had lately.

Well the first year they started turning it around with McNabb/Reid, I thought it was cute. Especially the first game that season with the onside kick against Dallas and Staley running all over the then pretty-good Cowboys. That was fun to watch, since they were 3-13 the year before. After they kept losing in the NFC Championship, then went and lost in the Super Bowl, I got frustrated watching them repeatedly get to the top and fail, and now to fade away again. Like, alright, you've had enough chances, give someone else a turn.

I personally think Chicago won't get past the NFC Championship Game, but the defense is good enough to get them there. Carolina is also a sleeper like someone mentioned earlier. Everyone might remember the Panthers were repeatedly mauled by teams they "should" have beaten in `03 and many people wrote them off, but then came up huge in the playoffs to get to the Super Bowl and got very close to beating a damn good Patriots team in the Super Bowl. This might come out to be a similar run for them.
