Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted December 8, 2005 I felt this was kinda pointless, all things considered. But it was probably his last album, either that or he's going to simply follow in Dre's footsteps. He's already the best-selling hip-hop artist of all time. What more does he need to accomplish? He's also reconciling his marriage with Kim and probably wanting to take a step back and just produce rather than stay out there. He'll do the occasional guest appearance and my guess is we'll get a new album in a few years or maybe more like Dre does, but no more than that.
Shooting Star 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Why are songs like Just lose it Mockingbird and Toy Soldiers in this? they just came out not long ago..he should have replaced those with songs like Just don't give a fuck , superman , kim etc...he has so many great songs. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2005 The Pitchfork review mentioned that there's a bonus disc available, which actually does have most of his genuinely good songs. Really, the first two albums are just enough Eminem.
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted December 9, 2005 Really, the first two albums are just enough Eminem. That's true. Outside of a couple of good singles, the first two albums are all you the Eminem you need.

k thx 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 ^Fact As for the track-listing, what don't people understand about a singles collection?
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 You can argue that Eminem Show is better than the first album? Eminem Show has a handful of good tracks, but it's everything that's bad about "serious Eminem." It's overblown and melodramatic where its predecessors were wickedly funny, offensive, and incisive. He'd run out of things to rap about by that point, and he wasn't terribly unique anymore.
Carnival 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2005 I'm with ripper. In terms of skill and flow Eminem Show and SSLP are night and day.

He'd run out of things to rap about by that point, and he wasn't terribly unique anymore. Personally, I think there are a few good tracks on the first two albums and the third one represented everything that he COULD be as a artist if it weren't for the fact that gimmicky, "funny", randomly dissing celebrities for no reason wasn't selling more albums for him. He was able to be what he really is on The Eminem Show. A incredibly gifted lyrical guy, with a incredible flow. He dropped the gimmicky subject matter that was all over his first two big label albums and returned to something more like the Infinate where he was enjoying the wordplay. I still can't figure out why more people don't like Encore, because honestly that and his second album sound the same to me. "Shock Rap" Eminem has never been entertaining to me. The Eminem Show was simply a very strong hip-hop album and I think it will have alot more longevity than the other two with those who are really hardcore fans of hip-hop. He dropped the gimmicky subject matter that was all over his first two big label albums and returned to something more like the Infinate where he was enjoying the wordplay. See, that's funny, because I'd use almost the exact same words to describe why I like the first and second so much more. Huh. I still can't figure out why more people don't like Encore, because honestly that and his second album sound the same to me. Probably the miserable quality of the singles. "Just Lose It," "Ass Like That," "Toy Soldiers"? Not "Stan," which was considered pretty astonishing for the time, or anything with the vitriol of "The Way I Am." Marshall Mathers was still pretty fresh; Encore is just boring now.

See, that's funny, because I'd use almost the exact same words to describe why I like the first and second so much more. Huh. Then you'd be wrong. He was LESS Gimmicky after the MMLP and LESS talented lyrically before Eminem Show. He may have been very talented before and he showed it on "Stan" and "The Way I Am", but he really didn't flow to the beat that great before then. Just listen to any eminem verse now...he switches his style and flow so much for every different beat. Like I said...it's night and day. Probably the miserable quality of the singles. "Just Lose It," "Ass Like That," "Toy Soldiers"? Now I see insanity has a hold on you.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 Why? "Like Toy Soldiers" is incredibly cheesy and has a shitty beat, and I find his jibbering about the hazards of rap feuds to be really silly. The "soldiers" metaphor he carries throughout the whole thing is elementary, and I think most of what he's saying runs at counterpurposes to what he wants to be saying. Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 Toy Soldiers awful. Eminem Show was definitely his best album though.
Carnival 0 Report post Posted December 11, 2005 I loved Toy Soldiers. I think it's one of his best songs. I liked the sample, I thought the beat was alright too. I can understand if someone says it's kind of a bland song, slow and plodding. People calling themselves soldiers is gay as hell, unless they are from No Limit. But No Limit is gay as hell now too. Mole 0 Report post Posted December 17, 2005 Em is doing what he needs to do, go away. Produce a bunch of stuff and stay low for like 5 years. During those 5 years he is going to be working on a new album and drop it out of the blue. I'll be 27 and I'll still buy it.
Guest Quik Report post Posted December 19, 2005 If Em quietly works on an album and then drops it with little hype and no stupid pop singles, I will respect him more as a musician. I used to really hate rap, but after calming down a bit and realizing that all the shit I see on MTV isn't the best rap has to offer, I can appreciate it more. Still can't listen to it casually, but I can tell when someone's good at it. Eminem has a flow, and he can weave things together in a way that's clever and intricate and requires talent. The problem is that he placates to the MTV crowd and writes shit like "The Real Slim Shady" and "Ass Like That". It's unfortunate though, because I think it's harder to stay legit in rap and have longevity nowadays without writing a stupid pop song now and then; it's not like the jam band or independant rock scene where you can tour your ass off and make a decent living as a musician and get your name out there. But then again, I don't recall seeing Jurrasic 5 on MTV that much, and they still have a large fanbase.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2005 (edited) Please don't put "The Real Slim Shady" in the same category as "Ass Like That". As far as pop songs go, "The Real Slim Shady" was a pretty good one. Edited December 19, 2005 by Cena's Writer
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2005 (edited) By the way, no White America, Till I Collapse, Marshall Mathers, My Dad's Gone Crazy (for the last verse), or even Rockbottom in the tracklist. Horrible. Edited December 19, 2005 by Cena's Writer

My Dad's Gone Crazy (for the last verse) That last line had me going crazy. When I first heard it, I listened to it about 10 times in a row. Nine millimeter, heater stashed, in two-seaters with meat cleavers I don't blame you, i wouldn't let hailie listen to me neither
