snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 Heads up for those who care...two undisputed title fights on Showtime this saturday night. Jean Mark Mormeck and O'Neil Bell unify the cruiserweight belts; Zab Judah defends the world welterweight title against the wbc's #1 contender Carlos Baldomir. My predictions: O Neil Bell will score a big upset knockout around the 9/10th round. Zab Judah will blow out Baldomir in the first round and make a statement before the PBF superfight. Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 5, 2006 Mormeck will blast Bell. Bell shouldn't even be a champion, Dale Brown got robbed againest him, and his last fight he was losing badly until he scored a lucky late round knock out. Bell is not even on Mormeck's level. As for the Judah fight, Judah better not be looking past this fighter and on to Floyd Mayweather because that will be a mistake. If Judah comes focus into this fight he will blast him. Floyd kicks Judah's ass though.

Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 (edited) Two upsets, as Bell KO's Mormeck in the 10th, and Carlos Baldomir wins a unanimous decision in Judah's own backyard, outworking a listless Zab while hurting him a few times (and nearly giving a repeat of the Judah/Tszyu baby giraffe dance in the 7th). snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 I got the cruiser unification right...really good fight, already a FOTY candidate. Zab was lame tonight. His sleepwalking style cost him the fight, his title, and millions vs. PBF.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2006 Like I said, if Zab was looking past this fight, it was a mistake. And I was right, even though I scored the fight a draw Zab didnt deverse to win.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 The Fallout: PBF appears to still be going ahead with the Apr8 date but (unlike with the Morales-Pacquiao situation for obvious reasons) will not be meeting Zab Judah. Despite what a few people think/hope it wont be against Antonio Margarito either. He will either meet Carlos Baldomir on that date, an equal opponent without a belt, or, less likely, meet Ricky Hatton. My guess is we'll have to wait until October or later for a chance of PBF-Hatton as Ricky has indicated he wants a couple tuneups first. Zab Judah, his father, and his fanbase have been very busy making excuse this week. He still wants the PBF fight but will probably have to settle for a Baldomir rematch or less for awhile. If anyone can find Cory Spinks maybe they will go a third time. Don King has said that Bell's first defense of the undisputed cruiser title will be against Steve Cunningham. Jean Marc Mormeck presumably wants a rematch and will probably get one (we can all look forward to that). Dale Brown is pleading for a title shot (he deserves it having barely lost a controversial elimination match to Bell last year) but is no better than third in line. Brown meets Felix Cora in another elimiator fight on ESPN soon and will have an even bigger mandate for a shot if he can win that.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Ooh. I'd like to see Floyd and Hatton. That's somebody with a punch that could really hurt PBF. Plus he fights dirtier than shit. Good upset potential. Zab Judah performing like that against Mayweather would've been an absolute embarassment.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2006 Yeah, if Zab brought his 'Garden game' to PBF it would have been worse than the Gatti massacre. Mayweather (or at least his people) dont seem to want any part of Antonio Margarito (who is set to get almost no exposure headlining an under-the-radar ppv for 40$ next month) as he is alot like JL Castillo only bigger/stronger and JLC gave Floyd a couple real struggles at 135. Hatton will probably take at least one tuneup fight in America...then, if there will be any welter superfight this year it will probably be Hatton-PBF. Great fight and Ricky definitly has a chance...though not as good as Margarito's would be.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 Floyd beats Hatton, and Margarito. Margarito got beat by David Santos who isn't even on Floyd's level, who has Margarito beat? A prospect in Kermit Cintron and china chinned Andrew Lewis? Floyd's too fast and smart, and much more talented boxer then Hatton and Margarito. Floyd has improved alot since his 1st fight with Castillo(which I had Floyd winning 115-113, close fight could see why people had Castillo winning), and he proved he was the better boxer in the rematch. I don't see anyone beating Floyd, but if I was Floyd I go for Hatton, Baldomir, or Cotto, because those fights are more money then a fight with Margarito. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 The biggest reason why those fights are bigger for PBF is that Bobby Arum has done a real poor job of promoting Margarito. He was coming off an impressive ESPN win and the Cintron win then got bumped when the Rahman-Klit fight was canceled...now he is set to headline a $40 ppv that noone but a portion of the Hispanic audience will see. PBF' people have shown an unwillingness to match up with Margarito (certainly this has some to do with the danger he would bring) but Arum isnt helping anthing by keeping his guy well under the radar. Remember evandersear, just because one guy beat another guy doesnt usually mean anything. Thats been shown time and time again in boxing. We had these examples already this year on Showtime. London papers are reporting that Hatton may in fact not take ANY tuneups and could indeed meet PBF on Apr8.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 13, 2006 Awesome. Hatton recently had the win of his lifetime, and his confidence is right there. Floyd would totally outbox him, though, so Hatton has to be especially mean and dirty, and make it as much of a brawl as possible. Really corner him, like he did to Tszyu. snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 All I know is...after Hatton's performance against Tszyu (when almost noone was giving him a real chance) I wont doubt him. Mayweather will probably win but is a very intriguing superfight if it can happen. Also, I think Tszyu himelf still has plenty of fight in him. Once he gets his confidence and gets back in the mix we could have the opportunity to see superfights left and right.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted January 13, 2006 Tszyu-Hatton wasn't a boxing match, it was wrestling match.
snuffbox 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2006 Ugh...Fightnews.com is now reporting that HBO is still interested in PBF-Zab for Apr8. Hopefully someone brings them to their senses. Hatton-Tszyu was a good fight, pretty brutal. Wrestling is a Johnboy Ruiz match.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 14, 2006 Hatton fought that match perfectly. Wouldn't let Tszyu develop anything, and kept him in the corners or on his heels, using his biggest asset: strength. The low blow later in the fight helped him out quite a bit, buy Kostya had it coming.
