Has The Czech Republic yet to realize that solo Morrissey

Panic isn't very good. It's the EXACT same G major-E minor from "Metal Guru" by T. Rex; Marr freely admits this. With the "hang the DJ!" part, it's as repetitive as "Barbarism. . ." at just 1/3 the length. "Ask" is better. It's so sweet it corrodes your teeth.

In terms of strongest songs from a musical standpoint, I think I have to give it to "This Night Has Opened My Eyes." The way everyone is playing off each other is just outstanding. Really a lesser-known track; another casualty of a single-oriented discography. (This was a bonus track on a singles/b-sides/rarities compilation.) Who in his right mind would put "Vicar in a Tutu" on an album over "Rubber Ring"

Yes I do, and I can slap them together in one big composite file so you can compare and contrast, actually, but I have class from 2.15 to 3.30 and I won't get it saved and uploaded in like five minutes.

 

I've also done this with Maroon 5's "She Will Be Loved" and Cheap Trick's "The Flame," as well as the obvious "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"/"Lust For Life" one.

The Clash's "Spanish Bombs" and Elvis Costello and the Attractions' "Oliver's Army."

 

The latter predates the former by only a few months, but they have the same exact melody. The Clash track simply plays it on guitar as opposed to the keyboard-driven Costello tune.

I've listened to a good number of the songs on both Czech's and Decemberist's lists and while I like bits from both, I'd have to lean towards the Smiths

The more I see Morrissey's band live (Boorer, Whyte et al) the more I appreciate them. I think Whyte's guitar style compliments Morrissey's voice just as well as Marr's, even though he's not technically as good. Johnny Marr as a composer without Morrissey's delivery (the crucial factor here) is only a shade above Bernard Butler.
