Ring of Honor 2.11.06

Yeah, Gabe fucked up with his choice of words as he led me to believe that maybe someone along the lines of Jericho, Christian, or Regal would show up. He didn't live up, oh well. Cm Punk and Xavier returned, Lance Storm is coming, Kenta/Marifuji and Dragon Gate are returning. Atleast ROH can do one thing...live up to their preannounced surprises.
No what you cite are "pre announced plans" they're not surprises - it's not a surprise that Lance Storm is coming, nor is it a surprise about Kenta/Marifuji etc.

So unlike what you said - they can't live up to "preannounced surprises" like this was.

You know if they had just come out and said "shit happens so and so didn't make it but we've pulled some strings and we've got something that I'm sure RoH fans will like to replace it" or something along those lines I doubt people would have been as negative about the show

But the hype job that makes the WWE Hype machine seem sedate and bound in reality by comparison really set such high and unrealistic goals that nothing short of Jesus Christ Vs Judas Iscariot main event could have fulfilled.

I'm still not seeing how the show was bad. From all the reports I read people enjoyed the show. What I have read however was that the surprise was underwhelming, even wtf inducing. A surprise not living up to the hype does not make a show bad. In fact....Cm Punk returning and Xavier returning as well probably makes this a hot show when it hits dvd.

People aren't saying that the show was bad, they are saying that the "surprise" was terrible. C.M. Punk and Xavier hardly warrant the type of hype they were getting prior to the event. Ring of Honor likely lost alot of trust in the fans after this event and they better hope the upcoming stretch of shows is off-the-charts.

ROH fans are resilient. They are admiting to be soundly disapointed by the failure of the surprise but will turn around and praise Gabe for "saving" the show due to the circumstances.

Ignoring the fact, regardless if Shelley, 'Cide and Lethal were there, Gabe still failed to deliver on the surprise.

A good core of the fans will refuse the fact Gabe isn't always perfect, it's the same mentality the mutants had for ECW in regards to Heyman. Luckily for the ROH fans, they don't have to worry about Gabe following Heyman's business sense.

I don't believe ROH has lost the trust of it's fanbase because the live reactions indicate they still enjoyed the show and that the matches still delivered. It should be noted, you can rarely take live reactions as gospel. It's almost impossible to have a bad time at a wrestling show unless it is flat-out horrible.

However judging from the fan response, Maria's presence alone was worth the snowstorm and disapointing surprises.

I didn't think this warranted a new thread but the ROH BOARD shut down because it was "hacked"

"The Administrator has chosen to close

this forum with the following reason:

Get a life you ROHbots. What are you going to do now with no message board. Check out CZWfans.com for a real promotion. You never know where I'll show up next. Your buddy, Chris Hero"

Maybe it’s all an elaborate ploy to stop people going on the boards and complaining about how bad they fucked up.

Genius!

You must read DOI.

The heat had already died down from the ROHBOTS, anyways about 2.11. They are gearing up to push the CZW/ROH war into full blast right now. To say they did this to stop the "bitching" is a really far-fetched idea.

Considering the heat was immense sunday morning, he would've done that then.

My God man, you're right. It's just a pity I'm not insanely sarcastic and happened to be making a joke.

...oh, no wait...turns out I was.

Was the message board shut down cause everyone was crapping on the SUPRISE?

Shutting down the message board...you cannot mix kayfabe with smarking, it never works out too good

I hate to say it, but Chris Hero's heel character is really so much better than having to get heat by 'shutting down a messageboard'.

He's also interupted shows and public events, the CZW/ROH stuff is just starting. "Shutting down the message board" is just an effective way to get each side of the feud involved.

I don't know about all of this message board business... but Xavier coming back is awesome. I can't wait to see Danielson/X.

Anything involving the internet in wrestling feuds strikes me as incredibly lame. Or, in this case, lazy. If they want Hero to get over as a heel, they need to take all the anti-ROH statements they can find and shove them in his mouth. Have him cut a promo about how the surprise sucked, have him rip on Punk and say Xavier has absolutely no credibility or something. Shutting down message boards just seems like such a desperate move for one of the better heel guys on the indy circuit to be relying on. It makes him look like some punk kid with too much time on his hands, when he's supposed to be a 'student of the game' professional wrestler who wrestles around the world and, presumably, puts his time into training.

It's not like angles can be furthered by television. Most indy feds survive on their internet fan base. Using this tool as a way to keep interest in angles is very productive.
