Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted February 18, 2006 I was on vacation in the Dominican Republic and caught a couple episodes of CMLL on one of the Mexican channels (I think it was Univision). Anyway, I forgot how fun some of this stuff was to watch. Seems like five or six years ago lucha was pretty popular with US wrestling fans, but you hardly hear anyone talk about it anymore. A few things I noticed: Groond XXX is probably the most freakish wrestler I can recall in quite a while. A big red guy with his muscles highlighted in black, wearing a batman mask and vampire fangs. Also, his theme music is a blatant rip off of the Road Warrior's WWF theme. A hillarious segment where Pierroth and Pierroth Jr. (I think) were discussing something in a coffee shop, sitting at a table. Saw a cool triple team move where two guys were held by a third in a sort of double headlock...then one of his partners stood on top of each guy, and stretched their outer arms...sort of a double team abdominal stretch. It looked like a high school cheerleader pyramind, basically. Pretty nifty, if contrived. Atlantis (I think) going to a hospital to cheer up sick kids in full costume was pretty surreal. Perro Aguayo Jr. and Hector Garza seemed pretty popular. Remember when Garza was going to be the top guy in WWF's fledgling Light Heavyweight division before WCW stole him away? Halloween and Damien 666 had cool t-shirts that said "Made in Heaven" on the front, and "Used in Hell" on the back. Then they turned face on Pierroth, IIRC. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Wouldn't mind seeing some more of this recent stuff.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2006 To my surprise Pierroth had a watchable match this week when he lost to Hector Garza in a hair match. I don't understand why the technicos taunted Pierroth with cactus but it was an interesting spot at the end of the show. Now I know why Damian 666 and Halloween wear face paint....they be some ugly luchadors but they are still one of my fav tag teams. 2006 looks to be a good year for CMLL with its current collection of wrestlers. Guerreros de Inferino never disappoint, Hector Garza & Hijo de Perro Aguayo are looking good, Ultimo Dragon and Hijo de Santo always have good matches whenever they show up, Dr. Wagner vs Atlantis feud > you, and let's not forget about the newest greatest hotest sensation that is Mistico. AAA still sux but damn the mini luchadors are fun to watch and the only show worth watching is Triplemania or the shows from Japan.

Silence 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2006 I watch lucha on Galavision every once in a while. I usually enjoy CMLL's shows. Does Galavision still do re-runs of old shows or did they finally get up-to-date? I stopped watching after a while because I had already seen most of the shows. razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2006 It's not as bad as 2002 when they would repeat the same episode for a whole month.
RedJed 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2006 They are still about 6 months back on CMLL and if they decide to go back to showing AAA, we're talking 9 months or so. Honestly, the stuff is great lately with CMLL stuff with the Perros Del Mal really starting to take off and Atlantis slowly going down the heel road, but what I would give for two current hours of CMLL each week and another hour of current AAA. They should bridge the time gap here with using Lucha De Vuelta or whatever its called to start airing where they are at now with the Sat show, and the Sat show could be the current stuff - thats the Sunday show on Galavision that basically just shows repeats of programming 2-3 months even before whats out now. Bruce Blank 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2006 I'm a huge fan of Lucha, it started to become re-run after re-run on European Galavision and I haven't watched in quite a while but I love it the triple team spot you mention is one of the reasons why I love it (Sounds like a Guerreros Del Infierno special ) - the colorfullness of it all, the speed the dose of Dr. Wagner Jr. and many other truely talented wrestlers
