Best Matches By These Guys

Recommended Posts

Guest Zarock

The purpose of this topic is to recommend to me matches by these people, who I have seen very little of. So, um, yeah.

1. Rhino - A lot of people here seem to like him, but outside Monster's Ball, I can't really think of a good match he's been in lately. I haven't seen ANY of his ECW stuff, or anything previous to that, so I'd be really glad if I get some suggestions as to what to see.

2. Rey Buccanerro - I've read a lot of good things about him, and from what I've seen on Galavision's "Lucha Libre", he looks pretty good. RECOMMENDATIONS, PLEASE.

3. Jaguar Yokota - Apparently, she's a really awesome wrestler, but so far there isn't really anything on YouTube, so yeah.

4. Tony St. Clair - Now, I've barely heard of this guy, but from what I've heard he works a style similar to Finlay and Regal, which = good wrestler.

5. Abdullah the Butcher - I don't really like brawlers, but after seeing his match against Bruiser Brody, I'm interested in him to say the least.

Oh, and I guess if you want to use this topic to get match recommendations for people you want to see more of, go ahead.

You're probably best off asking this question at deathvalleydriver, smarkschoice or newmilleniumblues. People here aren't quite as hardcore when it comes to watching all sorts of wrestling from all sorts of different times. There are a few here though. This is mostly a current WWE/former WWF/TNA I think (don't really go into the folder too much) and ROH.

Jaguar has the obvious super match against Lioness Asuka and she had a match there against the Mexican star La Galatica that I loved. She had a few against La Galatica so check them all out.

Tony St. Clair -- Great handheld match of Clair/Benoit vs Finlay/the underrated Johnny Smith from CWA that I've seen. However, it's pretty much a showcase for the other 3 superstars as Clair doesn't wrestle too much.

Rhino had a very good match against Benoit. Their last match on Smackdown in 03 I believe. I hear good things about a hardcore bout he had against Raven as well.

Benoit/Rhyno vs Eddie/Chavo 3/13/03 Smackdown

Benoit vs Rhyno 9/11/03 Smackdow

Benoit/Cena vs Lesnar/Rhyno/Morgan/Show 1/22/04 -- Rhyno might've looked his strongest ever here.

Rhino

Let's see-

vs Raven from Backlash 2001 is the match that always gets talked about

vs Jericho from Summerslam 2001 comes off very well on the commercial release as they edit off Jerichos blown spots due to the loose ropes...

vs Angle from September 2001 on Raw or Smackdown was incredible and always gets looked over...

vs Taijiri from Unforgiven 2001 is a fun little sprint

Most of Rhyno's Summer 2003 run with Eddie/Taijiri/Benoit running from Vengaence to Summerslam is pretty good stuff

From ECW, a lot of his stuff hasn't aged well or just wasn't really that good in the first place IMO, highlights for me were

vs Spike Dudley from Guilty as Charged 2001

vs Kid Kash from the second of the Scott Hall shows

but everything else is pretty much garbagy brawling, although if you're a fan of that his feud with the Sandman, especially the Heatwave 2000 match, would be worth tracking down...

The US matches I've seen with Abdullah the Butcher are very few and far between, but I do have two videos of him wrestling in Japan throughout the 1970s and early '80s. So that's what I'm using as my point of reference.

Obviously you're not watching Abdullah matches because he's a technical marvel. No, you're watching because you want to see exactly how much blood will be shed, and wondering when he'll pull the fork out of his pocket and start stabbing his opponents. All of the matches I've seen with him follow this format for the most part.

You've already seen a match against Bruiser Brody, and there's definitely more out there. He's had some fun brawls with the Sheik (is the pen...er, pencil...mightier than the sword...er, fork?), and a match against The Destroyer that I think might be the finals for some All Japan tournament in 1974. In that match, The Destroyer blades under his mask and it looks cool. This is a work computer, so I don't have any of the info regarding the significance of the match handy.

I'd like to see some of Abby's matches from Puerto Rico, as he had a long-standing rivalry with Carlos Colon (Carlito's father), in which much blood was spilled. One such match actually took place at the first Starrcade, incidentally.

I don't know if it's really worth the time to try picking out a match that stands out as THEE BEST. They're all kinda the same--punch, kick, headbutt, throat thrust, stab the guy in the head with a fork, maybe toss him out of the ring, maybe even brawl into the crowd and make people run away in terror, take some offense but not really sell it, headbutt, punch, kick, throat thrust, one more time with the fork, elbow drop, 1-2-3. You really have to be in the mood to watch his matches, because he's one big fat slow motherfucker. But they're definitely fun to watch at times.

Don't know if that's what you were really looking for, but I tried.

Was at a show a long, long time ago, when the original Sheik and Abdullah were brawling in the stands, hitting each other with chairs and a chain, and the Sheik legit laid out some fan who was trying to get in on the action with the chain. I wish that was on tape or film. Other than what's mentioned on Abdullah, I liked some of his squash matches in WCW actually, and got a laugh when the studio audience chanted Abdullah when he briefly turned face once.

Rey Buccanerro & Ultimo Guerrero vs Hijo de Santo & Negro Casas for the CMLL Tag Titles.

I remember that. There was something extremely disturbing and wrong about watching Abdullah the Butcher rubbing up on Ron Simmons. That was like watching Kamala's face-turn. Some things just should NEVER be considered.
