Golf Thread - March.

Bay Hill is this week, and that's usually the week to me that the "silly season" is finally over... with all due respect to the Match Play and the pitch and putt at Doral.

David Toms is probably the hottest golfer on tour. Nobody probably knows who Geoff Ogilvy is still. Rory Sabbatini is playing well, and is wrongly noted for being an asshole. And Vijay is apparently horrible and washed up now, despite still putting up good results.

The Players Championship is next week. Snobby Slave Masters in 3 weeks. And the clear favorite for these tournaments, like every year, Tiger Woods... copied his swing from this best golfer ever. Adam Scott. :swoons:

2004 Players Champion. Closing it out in STYLE~!

Hits 400 yard drives, with the prettiest swing on tour.

And still a winner at life. Unlike other certain bums.

Special mention: Camilo Villegas. Who single-handed made the Nationwide Tour watchable last year. And has rendered Sergio obsolete.

Already a star on the PGA Tour, after like 2 events.

I can offer my services as a caddy.

I've been blabbering on about Geoff Ogilvy for a while now, he was even my avatar for a few days. Other favourites of mine on the tour are K.J Choi and Mark Hensby.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Tiger win Bay Hill this weekend and then move on to win the PLAYERS. He is just on a roll this year.

I'll post my top ten golf rankings through the Honda Classic on here in several hours. Vijay is #1 but just barely because he's living off of last year's points (that were halved) and Tiger will probably overtake him by the end of the month.

Bay Hill's always had a different feel to it, just a more serious, probably due to the laid back nature of the two openers in Hawaii, the fun of the Bob Hope and AT and T, the drunken frat boy nature in Phoenix, and the "Your Name Here" at Doral.

There's always been a great feel to it, and coupled with the five man playoff last year in Atlanta, this should be a great five weeks of golf.

Here is my World Golf Top 25 after the Honda Classic last week:

1 Vijay Singh 1163

2 Tiger Woods 1145.5

3 Luke Donald 846

4 Retief Goosen 836.5

5 Tim Clark 766

6 Phil Mickelson 759.5

7 Ernie Els 730

8 Colin Montgomerie 727.5

9 David Toms 707

10 Sergio Garcia 704.5

11 Jim Furyk 675.5

12 Henrik Stenson 671

13 Davis Love III 645

14 Chris DiMarco 633

15 David Howell 609.5

16 Adam Scott 609

17 Jose Maria Olazabal 608

18 Geoff Ogilvy 601.5

19 Michael Campbell 598.5

20 Scott Verplank 576.5

21 Paul McGinley 564.5

22 Nick O'Hern 562.5

23 Chad Campbell 557.5

T24 Bradley Dredge 536

T24 Billy Mayfair 536

As I said before, Vijay's lead is eroding fast over Woods and it probably won't be long before Tiger takes back the top spot. One thing that helps Vijay is he plays in more tournaments and can get more points, but Woods is always in the running for #1 because he nearly always finishes in the top 5 at the majors, World Golf Championships, and the TOUR Championship/PLAYERS Championship which are worth a lot more points than the regular tourneys.

The rankings is based off a points system that gives equal weight to regular tournaments (each worth 50 points for 1st, 49 pts. for second, etc.) for the PGA and European Tours. However, the PGA Tour gets greater weight because it has more events count for more points such as the majors, World Golf Championships, PLAYERS/TOUR Championship, etc. while the European Tour just has the Volvo Masters and HSBC World Match-Play count for more points.

Also, bonus pts. are built into the system awarding a player 10 bonus points for shooting the best round of the day, 15 pts. for shooting a 63 or below, 25 pts. for shooting a 59 or below, 15 pts. for winning a tournament by more than five shots, 25 pts. for winning a tournament by more than ten, -10 pts. for shooting the worst round of the day, -15 pts. for shooting a round over 80, and -20 pts. for withdrawing from a tournament after it has already begun.

I'm not a huge fan of Sabbatini in the first place. I really hope that Stuart Appelby wins the tourney at Bay Hill and a possible threat for the masters.

Oh, BTW, I do have the weirdest swing known in the golf world.

Also probably because it's Arnold's tournament.

I've also known about Geoff Ogilvy for several years, thanks to watching the Australasian tour on the Golf Channel on a semi-regular basis.

I should quit drinking; How did I overlook that? Especially with Monday's news that next year it'll be known as the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

That grossly undersized green jacket is mine this year, RB. Manley seems to think the fact his golf balls have a Habs logo make him a contender.

Undersized now, but you know that this is my course and I know it from left to right. Just hopefully we don't play as bad as last year.

I've added what, 30 maybe 50 yards to my drives since then? Trouble's brewing. Come to think of it, I've bought the jacket for tourney use every year anyway, I can't see the harm in getting a second for 'just-in case' purposes.

Can anyone else believe Michelle Wie is the second ranked player in the women's world?

Nevermind this thread.

I forgot half the golf fans here are pathetic jerks.

Did anyone see the ending to Bay Hill today? I caught the highlights -- I don't think I've ever seen anyone mess up a green as badly as Owen did the 17th. Three-putting from three feet will probably stay with him for awhile, and not in a good way.

This is by no means an excuse or loophole for Owen, but NBC ran a piece around his 14th or 15th...I guess he had back surgery less than two years ago? That was news to me, and the 17th green not withstanding, impressive.

Pampling wound up winning what was a pretty entertaining back nine. Ernie Els is the only other non American to have won Arnie's tourney.

Ha Davis Love from first place Day One to 83 and a missed cut. Couldn't of happened to a bigger uptight jackass.

I was just looking at the money leaders headed into this weeks tourney and 24 of the Top 50 are players born outside of the US.

And plus seeing Stephen Ames and Mike Weir upon the top of the leaderboard makes it interesting for most Canadians as well.
