The OAO Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Thread

Recommended Posts

What I want to know is if you'll also be able to use the GC or "classic" controller on the Wii version.

I'm with you there, and *nobody* seems to have the answer. If the Wii version only *adds* features, not replacing them, logically you would have a choice, especially because some people may opt for the widescreen but may not be ready to adjust to the wiimote for standard gameplay.

If the answer is yes, the choice is easy. If the answer is no, you'd probably have to have some hands-on time with the game to know for sure.

Well, I did some more digging:

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/15/the-enga...s-perrin-kaplan

One of the developers said at the event where it was unveiled, "Don't throw away your GameCube controllers." That would imply that maybe --

That would apply to Zelda too, and Virtual Console games...

So there you go. TWIIlight Princess adds Wiimote functionality, but if you feel safer with the GC/classic controller, you're welcome to use that. I suspect the "classic" controller is basically just a reconfigured GC controller, then.

What's this homebrew thing they're talking about? I'm falling behind the times.

Homebrewers could distribute games through the virtual console.

Gamestop says that Phantom Hourglass won't make 06--

current projected release date is March. :(

Are we really surprised at that???? :fight2:

Yes! You don't expect massive delays like that on a portable title. I mean, GBA's Mega Man Anniversary Collection is a huge joke but nobody seriously expects that to come out.

If we get Tingle's Freshly-Picked Rose-Colored Rupee Land over here before PH I'll be highly peeved.

At first I read Andrew's post as "Twilight Princess won't make 06".

I was angry and perplexed. Phantom Hourglass, it's disappointing, but I'll live with it.

If we get any game with Tingle as the starring character, someone at Nintendo needs to get shit-bricked.

It's actually going to happen. Most folks hoped it was quietly killed, but then a bunch of Japanese mags now have *actual* pictures and info, so yeah it's no joke.

And yet Wario Thief is still in limbo.

Japan likes Tingle, though.

I almost like Navi after watching the "The Real Legend" flash cartoons on newgrounds (there's 2 parts). Granted, Link is a total idiot there (for comic effect) and the portrayal of Navi makes it blatantly obvious the creator was channeling Sprite just a little from the SMBSS cartoons, but it's entertaining if nothing else.

EB/Gamestop currently has a guestimate on their release chart of 11/01 for GC Twilight Princess, which would be the same as the Wii. That's a pretty safe bet, since the October/November window is the very latest date we'll be seeing the Wii which we know is supposed to be the same time as Twiilight.

I think part of the reason Japanese gamers like Tingle, is probably because he's blatantly Japanese. Most video game characters are either white, or "nuetral." Just a guess.

Something I found on destructoid.com. Can't verify the truthfulness of it...but...

Unless Target is planning on selling video games before the console becomes available, it appears you will be able to pick up some Wii disks as early as October 4th. Whether the system will be available on the same day remains unseen. In contrast, Best Buy is showing November for its Wii games (I should know, we preordered some guys Zelda Wii in last month’s contest!). The Wii is rumored to have a library of 20-30 titles available at game launch, most of which are NOT ports (ahem!) but, in the usual launch day dance, will not feature the majority of the strong titles we got to fiddle with at E3. Among the two kiddie games set to ship early are Spongebob’s thing and Avatar: The Last Airbender which is based on a Nickelodeon anime-ish show. Naturally, this is subject to change by the next time you blink. Judging by the Dreamcast, PS2, and Xbox 360 launches, the availability of any new next gen equipment is about as predicatable as Miami’s hurricane season. Remember when you preordered Street Fighter 2 and it was actually there that Saturday morning? I miss that. Peep Target.com’s Wii List (

http://www.target.com/gp/browse.html/ref=s...;node=193754011 thx DeltaOne)

However, I've seen BestBuy themselves still plugging an April release on Twilight Princess as late as March of this year, so go fig. The link still works.

One of the things you learn about being on the inside of the retail business, is that stores will stock high-value or high-demand products weeks, sometimes up to 60 days in advance. We had PSP's and PSP games in the warehouse area almost a month before the release date. It may have just been leaked info, not meant for the general populace to know. Or, it could just be a typo.

Yeah, we know; you posted a topic on that, Inu Y...

It's a believable slip-up since we're looking at multi-console titles.

This pretty much narrows our expected window tho. I think Wii will be available with a strong initial lineup by early November. Nintendo could steal a lot of Sony's thunder if they pull off a strong release before PS3 hits.

Smash Bros is "launch window" tho, so we're looking *possibly* 2006 but I wouldn't bet on it.

No GameCube Controller on Zelda Wii

And original games coming to Virtual Console.

by Patrick Klepek, 08/16/2006

In a move sure to upset the groups still not convinced of Wii's merits, George Harrison, Nintendo of America's Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications, stopped in a Camp Hyrule chat session moderated by Nintendo themselves and confirmed the Wii version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will only have support for the Wii's control scheme.

Many had hoped Nintendo would allow for dual Wii and GameCube support ala a number of upcoming Wii releases, but Nintendo appears confident enough in its design that hardened fans will have to pick up the GameCube release if they're that hardcore. You still have time to decide which one sways you, as both versions will be launched simultaneously during Wii's launch date this fall.

Additionally, Harrison teased about Virtual Console, which may also host all-new Nintendo games, instead of just nostalgic classics. "Remember, there are other secrets of the virtual console that we won't reveal until we get closer to launch," he said. "Virtual console offers the possibility for us to create new games, but our focus right now is in getting the Wii hardware launched and new games from Nintendo on the virtual console will be coming sometime after the launch."

Secrets, secrets are no fun; secrets, secrets make message boards whine and moan. Let's hope we hear more from Nintendo soon.

Damnit--guess some skeptics are going to have to try some demo units or settle for GC.

Lord only knows why Nintendo wants to coddle the GC some more. It's an even bigger lame duck right now than the xbox is, and that system's successor has been out the better part of a year.

Because they promised so much that Twilight Princes would be out for GC, that I guess they don't want to screw their fans out of it, especially since they've invested so much time and money into making a GC version.

But moreso, because they want people to buy both versions of the game.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/726/726748p1.html

August 21, 2006 - Nintendo has made some major changes to the control scheme for the Wii version of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Speaking to Japan's monthly Nintendo Dream publication, producer Shigeru Miyamoto revealed that the game will now allow players to swing the controller for sword slashes.

At E3, players used the B button to swing Link's sword, with Nintendo explaining at the time that players would likely get tired having to actually swing the controller. "Upon actually playing it, it's more interesting this way," said Miyamoto to Nintendo Dream about the new control scheme.

Going along with this change, Nintendo has made modifications to the game's bow and arrow controls. In the E3 version, players aimed with the Wiimote, then actually shot out arrows using the D-pad. With the B button now free, Nintendo has moved the action to the B button. Miyamoto felt that that shooting the arrow with the D-pad was too difficult, and the B button allows for quicker and easier shooting.

It's unclear if the game will require the new control scheme or if players will be able to chose between different methods of control.

Nintendo Dream closed off by asking Miyamoto to name the version of Zelda he personally prefers. The master game maker said that he'd play the Wii version, but added that both versions will be fun.

"I can't talk about it yet, but this Zelda has a lot to it," said Miyamoto. "What you played at E3 was just the tip of the nail." Regarding Nintendo's statement at E3 that Twilight Princess would be the best Zelda in history, he said, "Yes. It's coming along quite nicely."

With Twilight Princess due out at launch, GameCube and Wii owners will get to fully explore the potentially greatest Zelda game ever in just a few months. Stay tuned for more!

I'm fairly sure, given the concerns about wrists getting tired, they'll offer both configurations. However, I thought it seems more intuitive for arrow-shooting the old way.

Here's the box art for the game, thankfully it wasn't the one we were seeing on display boxes (which wasn't really bad, but not good for box art, and very untraditional):

Was betting on that one since I first saw it on Nintendo Power's cover.

That's the official box art--dunno if this one is going to be the GC one or if it will be identical to the Wii one:

Um...official, fanmock up, or 3P cash in?

Moving the remote to control sword swings need to have Link actually mimic what you do with the sword. If the remote just does the same thing as hitting a button then it won't add anything to the controls.

This is in all likelihood a very well-made fake. The "T" rating made me skeptical because usually these games aren't rated this far in advance, but the seal gave it away. They don't use that seal anymore. The one they use now just says "Official Nintendo Seal", not "Official Nintendo Seal of Quality".
