Martin Nance, WR, Miami (Ohio)

 

Strengths:

Has tremendous size and a big frame...Is a major threat in the red zone...Is underrated athletically...Good leaper who knows how to go up and get the ball...Has big, strong, reliable hands...Will make the acrobatic catch...Physical and knows how to use his body...Tough player who is more than willing to go over the middle...Solid route runner...Intangibles are top notch...Very productive.

 

Weaknesses:

May not always play up to his timed speed...Is not very quick...Isn't an explosive athlete...Could have trouble getting separation against pro defensive backs...Probably won't be a major deep threat at the pro level...Will lose focus at times...Has missed some time due to injury...If he doesn't run well in workouts teams may downgrade his upside to that of a #2 or possession receiver.

 

KC needs some youth at WR. Nance is huge, and along with Gonzo and Larry Johnson the KC attack could be absolutely montrous in the red zone. If the defense stuffs the box with eigth people, toss a fade to Gonzo or Nance. If they put coverage on either, let LJ do his thing. This could be a really big help in some potential shootouts with the other high powered offenses in their division.

With the 55th pick in the NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select......

 

Kamerion Wimbley, DE/OLB, Florida State

 

I think there is no chance he falls this far, but this would be a great pick-up for the Bengals, as he was my second choice behind Tye Hill in the 1st Round. I am guessing he will be mostly used as a LB for Cincy, but will be able to be used as a DE on certain downs, much like David Pollack.

You are right that there is no way he falls this far, but don't discount the fact that it seems like there is always at least one player that plummets somewhat.

I know the reason I passed on him was that the Saints need an LB much more than a DT.

 

Why did everyone else pass on him? His January bust? A lack of need at that position?

I considered him for the Chiefs, but I really don't know much about him. He seems too small to be an effective tackle though.

With the 59th Pick of the 2006 Smartmarks NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select G Davin Joseph from Oklahoma.

 

 

Strengths:

Has a wide frame and long arms...Is a pretty good athlete and moves well inside at guard...Tough and very strong...Packs quite an initial punch...Aggressive and plays with a nasty demeanor on the field...Smart and very technically sound...Is effective as both a run and pass blocker...A hard worker with excellent intangibles who really wants to improve...Has a lot of experience against top competition.

 

Weaknesses:

Lacks great height...Footwork is only average...Becomes much less effective and doesn't look nearly as athletic when asked to move outside...Can do a better job of getting to the second level...Can improve his conditioning to help increase stamina...Struggled a little when he was moved to left tackle as a senior in '05.

 

Notes:

Could possibly see some time at tackle but is a much better fit at guard...Has been overshadowed throughout his career but has consistently graded out very high for one of the better offensive lines in the nation...Should start very early on
