Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2006 I think it's pretty much been proven that WWE can't just take two midcarders and make them into a tag team. If you take two guys like Viscera and Val Venis and slap them together, no one is really going to care. The example of the New Age Outlaws was brought up, but that was different. They didn't just come out one week and start wrestling as a team. There was actually an angle and buildup to them. Plus, they were booked strongly, winning the tag belts from the LOD pretty quickly. WWE never books current "thrown together" teams well. They go out, win one or two matches on RAW, and then disappear to Heat or whatever, then come back to RAW and job a couple times before the team is forgotten or breaks up. The key is to bring in teams and present them as a contending tag team right away. Make them unique and give them an angle or gimmick. This is why MNM has outshined the entire rest of the tag team division. They came in and were presented as a tag team with a unique (but not stupid) gimmick right away (Hollywood "hipster" types). They had a manager (something most tag teams used to have...) who could talk. They use double team moves and have a unique finisher. How many other teams have gotten similar treatment? Guest ken adams Report post Posted April 8, 2006 Another thing to do is have them wear MATCHING UNIFORMS, with one name representing both guys, and have one theme song, thus giving the appearance of an actual TEAM. As long as you don't just "slap them together", you can take already established singles wrestlers & make a real tag tam, like Strike Force, for example. It may not seem like much, but matching uniforms & one name makes a huge difference.
Lt. Al Giardello 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2006 I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see Bookerdust reunite. They worked very good as a tag team(Infact at times I thought Booker worked better with Dustin Rhodes then he did with his bro Stevie Ray). A fued with MNM would be awesome from a storyline aspect, and a wrestling aspect.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2006 I agree. I don't know how London and Kendrick are on the mic, but even something as simple as 2 minute interview could go a long ways to connecting with the fans, especially since everyone already likes them in the ring. Kendrick is a really fun promo guy (especially when he gets to do comedy stuff). I mean, London is all sorts of bland, but if they have Kendrick do the talking it would work. Guest jaderock Report post Posted April 8, 2006 Interesting question, but this is the WWE we are talking about and Vince has no real interest in the Tag scene just like he is clueless in the curserweight division. With the tag partners regularly getting beat by a singles champ or worse yet the tag champs (like MNM) lose to a singles wrestler, what audience is going to take the Tag teams serious?!? I can't remember a Tag Team that meant anything over the last 5 years or so. Even the Dudley Boyz were pretty boring at the end of their run because they weren't used properly (except for ECW's One Night Stand) and the McMahons ALWAYS Labelled them to ECWish (you know guys who didn't know how to work a match, blah, blah, blah). Hardy is so loved by the fans but is buried week after week - why?!? And he's generally consider one of the best tag partners.

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2006 No. I think my A and B had more to do with it than your C, Hawk. Had he been a "model" employee, ie. done everything that was asked of him without sounding like a mark for his character (really, the chokeslam thing was dumb on his part as well as WWE's/Taker's), then he'd just have been "there" rather than outright buried. Just John 0 Report post Posted April 9, 2006 I think choice "B" is the reason for his most recent burial, which is pretty dumb. An overreaction by UT, and pure stupidity by Matt. Seriously, who's gonna remember you took a chokeslam more than a week later?

Guest hasbeen Report post Posted April 9, 2006 Having Mercury and Nitro defend the belts every now and then in the main event would help. Same outfit, one name as others have said would be huge. Just saw Chris Champion in a small event recently, this topic and that reminded me of the first time I saw the New Breed on TBS 20+ years ago-silly gimmick, similar or same personalities, new wave haircuts and flashy tights instantly told the viewer that's a team. Someone else mentioned trouble putting a pair of individuals as a team, but if you leave them together long enough, put them in pursuit of the belts and nothing else-Blanchard and Anderson, Martel and Santana, the fan comes to think of them as a team first. Guest Timmer Report post Posted April 9, 2006 One thing they need to do is quit having Main Eventers beating tag teams (especially the tag champs) by themselves in handicap matches. That one thing has really crippled how people view actual tag teams like MNM. DING DING DING TELL HIM WHAT HE"S WON... I can't stand it when they do this. It was one thing when it was just Andre but now they have had dozens of guys beat tag teams... When it was just Andre, it meant that Andre was that great, when they have people liek Lashly do it it means the tag teams really suck
