RepoMan 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2006 I really feel bad for Ducks fans right now. Your resigned that your seasons over, then they make the comeback just to come so close to tying it up in the last minute. Weirdest period of hockey I've ever witnessed. CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2006 They just showed the Canadian anthem being belted out by the fans in Edmonton last night on Sportscentre. Gave me chills.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 Meh, it happens. The Ducks could win the next four games. If Edmonton wins, so be it. No offense to those who are Edmonton fans, but my father thinks who ever wins the East will win the Cup.
Guest Report post Posted May 25, 2006 I think Edmonton's a team of destiny. That's the only way to explain them winning when they've been dominated every game this series. They have perfect shotblocking technique. Buffalo or Carolina will be too tired from beating the hell out of each other.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 Is it worth complaining to OLN or the NHL that I've been blacked out of every game in both conference finals? Couldn't hurt. They'd probably laugh at the idea that someone from Florida would want to watch hockey, though.
CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 I'm hoping I'm not being viewed as a Cole fan because his name appears in my signature. I always liked Steve Armitage, as well, but Hughson has been gravy. Still, I think Cuthbert is my favourite, but he's been tough to handle as he;s been with either Healy or the even more hatable Pierre McGuire lately.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 If he is healthy, I think the Hurricanes should look to Martin Gerber for the rest of the postseason. Cam Ward has been great and should have a great career ahead of him, but I think his inexperience has finally started to catch up with him. Gerber has already proven that he can dominate games, you could attribute our wins against Ottawa in the regular season to his play and he also had an amazing performance against Canada in the Olympics. CanadianGuitarist 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 While I'll be the first to say that Stanley Cup > Olympic Medal, Martin Gerber has the more impressive resume just based on his stellar play in the Olympics. Although, Ward's WHL success is nothing to sneeze at. On a similar note, tsn.ca is suggesting that Giguere will be starting tomorrow.

KingPK 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 Ray Shero, Ottawa assistant GM. Here's the storyfrom TSN: It seems Ray Shero isn't going to be the general manager for the Boston Bruins after all. The Providence Journal reports that Shero, who was offered the position over the weekend, is asking the team for too much money and negotiations have broken down. The Bruins were also interested in Ottawa Senators assistant GM Peter Chiarelli, who now emerges as a lead candidate. Shero, 43, worked in stints as an assistant GM for the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators over the past 14 seasons. According to the reports, Shero and his wife met with team president Harry Sinden and executive vice president Charlie Jacobs, the son of club owner Jeremy Jacobs last week. Shero has been the Predators' assistant GM for the past eight NHL seasons. The Pittsburgh Penguins were also reportedly interested in Shero's services. Ray is the son of the late Fred Shero, who coached the Philadelphia Flyers to back-to-back Cups in 1974 and 1975. He worked as a player agent before joining the Ottawa Senators in 1993 and spent six years as assistant GM. Shero joined the Predators in 1998. Again, fuck the Bruins. Management SAYS the new GM will have final say about the head coach, but I'll believe that when I see it. It's nice that Jeremy Jacobs can't even come MEET the fucking guy and sends his son instead. the max 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 Not playoff related, but this is the only hockey thread active: The Bruins broke off talks with their #1 choice for their GM spot. Why? He wanted too much money. Fuck this team. There are a lot of things going around about it, not necessarily about money. First of all, the Bruins wanted Shero to keep Jeff Gorton on as an assistant GM (Gorton has been part of the scouting staff that has been the lone bright spot over the last few years). Shero didn't want to keep him on, as he felt that he should be able to hire his own staff and be able to choose whether or not he kept a Bruins guy. This called into question Shero's ego, since it wouldn't be hard for the two of them to work side-by-side on this massive rebuilding project. Plus, it's actually a good sign for the team to show loyalty to Gorton, who has scouted for the team for the last five or so years, which has lead to the drafting of Bergeron, Mark Stuart, Karsums and the rest of the young Bruins team. I don't think Shero was ever their number one choice; Dean Lombardi was their first choice, but they dragged their feet in getting into talks with him and he didn't return the same interest once they did. Jacobs not meeting with Shero directly isn't exactly a good thing, but really, we don't know what his schedule is. Plus, Shero has never been GM all on his own, so how do we know that he's not a younger MOC? We don't. It sucks that the team is still without a GM, but I'm not going to get up in arms over a guy that I couldn't pick out of a lineup. I'm glad they're looking at new blood rather than trying out a failure from another team. Whoever they get is going to be rough at first. This is not an easy job. Peter Chiarelli has emerged as a leading candidate. Since he's worked in Ottawa, what if he's able to sign here and bring one of Chara/Redden with him? Isn't that worth it? The downside to Chiarelli is that the Bruins have to give up a second round pick if they hire him, which comes full-circle for my post, since Gorton has excelled at plucking guys out of the second round and having them turn into pretty decent players. If they can sign Chiarelli, give up the second round pick to Ottawa, but Chiarelli can convince one of Ottawa's big two defenseman to sign here, it's DEFINITELY worth signing him over Ray Shero. Guest Felonies! Report post Posted May 25, 2006 The Avs hired Pat Foley. That's good, because their PBP guy was fucking horrendous. UGH this makes me so MAD that Chicago keeps running its good announcers out of town. Well, our loss is Denver's gain, I guess. Oh hey, does anyone else feel that this is gonna be the 4th year of Low Seed Rides On The Wings Of A Mid-Tier Goaltender Playing Over His Head But Ultimately Losing In The Finals? 3rd year that they've beaten the Red Wings early on, too. JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 You want to consider Miikka Kiprusoff a mid-tier goalie? You also have three rookies goalies left, so it is a little too early to tell whether these guys are mid-tier goalies. I suppose you think the Edmonton Oilers will lose in the Stanley Cup Finals as they are the only team that really fits in that category.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted May 25, 2006 I dunno, seems like Kiprusoff got really good really fast, but he at least maintained going into the next year, unlike "Jiggy," who can't even start now.

I remember the Mighty Ducks being in like 13th place or something because he couldn't do his job He played about as well in the regular season in 03-04 as he did in 02-03. They missed the playoffs because they were nearly dead last in scoring. They didn't have ANYONE who could put the puck in the net.
Guest Princess Leena Report post Posted May 25, 2006 Sabres are getting fucked with injuries, now. Tallinder probably has a broken arm, or something, and is out for the playoffs. He's been their best defensemen. With Kalinin also done for the playoffs, and Teppo hurt, we're screwed. The end.
the max 0 Report post Posted May 25, 2006 http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=166960&hubname=nhl Chiarelli is hired as Bruins GM. Plus, they might not lose their second round pick as they'll go to arbitration with the league to decide Ottawa's compensation as Chiarelli had two years left on his contract. From what I've read at other places around the net, Chiarelli is a former agent and was Ottawa's main salary cap guy, meaning he might not go for signing another Shamnov-type contract. The team might actually be organized! *gasp* I have no issues with this signing.
