NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2006 They better have a good friggin' plan for the arrival of the ECW-brand, because RVD hot-shotting the title to a decrepit slug like Ric Flair, certainly isn't a good plan. I think I would rather see RVD screwed out of the title big time at ONS, then to have him win it and lose to Flair.
NYU 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2006 It seems if they DID go through with the Flair plan -- which I personally don't think will happen. It was speculation from Meltzer and nothing more -- it wouldn't be in the cards for Van Dam to win the title. RVD/Flair certainly doesn't sound like a match they would use to headline Vengeance when they have HHH/Flair and Cena/Flair available. And if Flair did go over, it wouldn't make him look any more impressive for beating a guy that, at that point, would have held the belt for about two weeks. If they run with Flair in the Main Event at Vengeance, they won't have Van Dam win the belt. Or vice-versa. If Van Dam wins the belt at One Night Stand, he won't fight Flair at Vengeance. No matter which way you look at the match, it would not work out logically.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted April 26, 2006 I don't have a problem with Flair getting a title shot at Vengenace. Winning it on the other hand, ugh. Maybe they can recycle the Flair / Vader Starrcade 93 angle with Flair's career for a title shot in his hometown.
Guest Gary Busey Report post Posted April 27, 2006 At this point, the target audience for the new ECW are the fans watching WWE who aren't actually fans of the WWE product. The people who hate Cena, etc, etc but enjoyed the kind of product ECW provided. For this, I think that the new ECW has to be portrayed as anti-establishment and RVD has to win the WWE title and throw it down. The whole "I worked so hard and broke through the glass ceiling to prove I'm better than all of you, now you all can go fuck yourselves and I don't need this piece of shit fake title" would be a fantastic way to reintroduce a bit of his old edge. It wouldn't devalue the title very much because RVD, and ECW, would be portrayed as in a different wrestling universe than WWE. They could always call the ECW roster a bunch of rebels, assholes, lowlifes, etc to try to paint it like they don't deserve the title. Give the whole thing a bit of edge. WWE refused to be portrayed as weak in the Invasion, and that's the main reason I think that died. Heck, maybe launching a new brand and sparking something big means that the WWE, the World title and Vince's baby has to take a solid punch to the mouth for once. It depends on how much interaction ECW and WWE will have. If ECW will be on its own, than RVD can throw the title away and they can get their own and do their own thing. If it's going to be a promotional war, then RVD getting screwed could lead to a longer storyline and may be the better answer. It won't be as big a mark out moment, though. RVD getting screwed again will be just another storyline, but RVD throwing the WWE title down could be another one of those moments you'll always remember (ECW returning in 2001, return of the 4 Horsemen, Hogan's turn, etc.).
