bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 I played (and liked) the PSX metal gear solid game many years ago. I've never touched MGS2 or 3 on Ps2 though. Do MGS2 and 3 flow storywise? I was thinking of playing them, and 3 is the newer (and apparently better based on reviews), so am I going to lose anything major if I jump straight to MGS3 and skip Part 2? World's Worst Man 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 MGS3 takes place some 30 years before MGS2, in the 60's during the peak of the cold war. So you don't really have to play MGS2 first. I say MGS2 has better gameplay, so you should play that one anyway, while MGS3 has a better story.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 Yeah, MGS2 continues the story of MGS.... But while the gameplay is good, the story is not very good. Quite painful in plenty of places, in fact. I would recommend just looking up plot summaries on MGS2, and buying MGS3 (or MGS3 Subsistence, which has improved gameplay, a better camera, as well as bonuses not in MGS3). Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 MGS2 is an absolute masterpiece, you owe it to yourself to at least rent it.
bobobrazil1984 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 could someone clarify... Metal Gear Solid 3: Substinence... is this an add-on expansion type thing to MGS3: Snake Eater, or does it have the whole snake eater game plus the other stuff? If I'm buying MGS3, I should go straight for Substinence?
Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2006 Yes, go for Subsistence. And MGS2 is like $5 at EB, so even if you don't like it, it's no great loss. I happen to like it quite a bit, and am replaying it now

If I'm buying MGS3, I should go straight for Substinence? Its basically a re-release of MGS3 for $30 with some extras and gameplay enhancements like an online mode, the ability to control the camera yourself (instead of dealing with the "cinematic" angles), the original Metal Gear game and the never released in the US sequel. Speaking of MGS2, I've got a question (I'll spoiler tag it for those who haven't played it): When Arsenal activates and you see the cinema of it going underneath a bridge, the screen goes white and suddenly you see Raiden and Solidus falling off Arsenal in the middle of NYC. Was there a cinema of Arsenal tearing through the city that was cut out because of 9/11? It would explain that excrutiatingly long Codec conversation about controlling digital information that felt so tacked on.

I think it was just part of the random weird story line they had there at the end. Damn that ending was weird as hell.

It was being made before, but it released in November 2001, so they cut out a scene where Arsenal tore up Manhatten
