Can't moan too much about this lineup. I'm assuming wwe.com follied up by listing the Ironman match as 16 minutes.

Nice to see a couple AWA matches get peppered in to give me a chance to see some stuff I've never seen before. Backlund/Patera is a nice touch as is LOD's last WWE match together.

Why can't they at least give them credit in the one area WCW undisputably handled better than WWF/E ever has.

Cause no matter what, WCW will ALWAYS be hated by the upper WWE brass. Even after 5 years Vince continues and will continue to bury WCW for the rest of his natural life.

I think you're forgetting about Duane Gill -- Lightheavyweight Champion.

Rey Mysterio saved the unimpressive, poorly booked Cruiserweight division in 1996. His first big American exposure (besides the AAA PPV) was in ECW. WCW stole him from ECW. Thus, I guess WWE is giving ECW some credit for the Cruiserweight division.

I remember the hype for Sabu Vs. RVD (ECW's first Cablevision/major PPV carrier PPV) being that of "5 stars, this may be the greatest wrestling match ever." Oh well.

Wasn't RVD vs. Sabu from Wrestlepalooza notorious in its day for being a sheer example of what happens when spot wrestling goes horribly wrong?

Yeah. As a RVD/Sabu fan, this was probably their worst match. Instead of this, they should have showed the match they in late 99 on Hardcore TV.

In all fairness, the CW division was only around for a month or two before Mysterio came into WCW. As a complete mark in 1996, I saw the CW Title as something very special when Malenko was attempting to hold off Mysterio over the summer of 1996. It's certainly possible that WWE is throwing ECW a bone, but I personally doubt that was the intention.

I don't even know why I care about the line.

Well, ECW didn't have a "Cruiserweight division" or any kind of equivalent title. The guys like Rey and Psicosis were just presented as luchadores in ECW. WCW was the first promotion to have a major "lighter heavyweight" division, at least since their own Light Heavyweight Title in the early '90s. WWF tried to copy that formula with their own LHW Title, but that was basically a total failure, and the title was basically abandoned until they put it on Dean Malenko in 2000.

WCW was definitely responsible for the creation and popularity of "cruiserweight" wrestling in the US. WWF/WWE really had no hand in it. Instead of trying to completely downplay WCW's contribution, they could have said something like "WCW played a major role in the rise of Cruiserweight wrestling in the US." Instead they used the word "partially" which makes it sound like WCW's influence was pretty minimal.

Boy, that's news to me. I sure am glad these knowledgable troopers from wwe.com are here to set us straight.
