Guest jlvideo Report post Posted May 4, 2006 Is ovw in trouble or are they done being a developmental group with wwe? I read in observer that wwe has bought and future ovw dvds/videos. And people who are buying them will get refunded. I thought ovw was great for old schoold regional promotion. So is deep-south much better than ovw as far as productivity? Guest BarnacleBill Report post Posted May 10, 2006 I subscribed to the ovw tv dvd's and I got my final one today the april 2006 showcase....It's kinda sad cause I've been getting it since feb.2004,The current product is so much different than what it was under jim cornette, there's alot more bad wrestling now and matches that never seem to end and some hour shows seem like 4 hours, most weeks it seemed like heyman didn't care at all but then again you get osama and maria,it's pretty much wwe style tv while when cornette ran things it was old school southern rasslin with alot more logic and the hour flew by

Like he almost used OVW as a parody of the current state of WWE? I guess he completed his #1 objective; put the title on C.M. Punk.

Watching the shows it just seemed like he didn't care cause when something would get good wwe would called up or change the gimmicks of his top feuds and give him little or no time to justify why these 2 guys that hated each for months and months are best friends or worse male cheerleaders. When he 1st started booking he did the Cappotelli/Jeter angle and it was awesome then the shows seemed to lose focus
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2006 Maybe Heyman realized that no matter how he built up the wrestlers, they'd just get brought into WWE with some idiotic gimmick.
Guest BarnacleBill Report post Posted May 11, 2006 Maybe Heyman realized that no matter how he built up the wrestlers, they'd just get brought into WWE with some idiotic gimmick. Very True..But the one thing I loved about heyman running ovw was he got people over quickly that weren't used or barely used on cornette's tv,like robbie dawber who was a job guy every once and a while for corny now he's on tv multiple times a show as Senor Roberto Dawber #1 supporter to elect BiG Lalo is Dictator..Osama was the same way now he's like the narrator of the tv and the most entertaining guy on the show and cliff compton was a jobber now he's a greaser named dice domino. EricMM 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2006 Well now Heyman will be running ECW so you can see more of his booking there. I really hope WWE doesn't farm them in the same way...
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2006 Cornette booked OVW as it's own promotion, heavily influenced by what Cornette watched while growing up, and this led to a lot of stress, based on what WWE would then do with the talent that Cornette had spent so much time and effort on building up. Heyman books OVW WWE-style, both because it will get the talent used to working in a WWE-like environment, and because it'll avoid the stress of spending time and effort on talent that will end up wasted when WWE comes along and screws everything up. k thx 0 Report post Posted May 11, 2006 I think it's more the fact that WWE booking has taken a lot of influence from Heyman than the other way round. From what I've heard, DSW is a lot worse than OVW, and it's likely that'll be replaced by ECW if they choose to get rid of one deveopmental. The reason they've stopped sending the DVDs out is that WWE have brought the rights and don't want to continue selling the shows.

Obviously, WWE doesn't have any problem showing bias to one developmental promotion over the other.
Danville_Wrestling 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2006 Why is the WWE not wanting to sell the shows? Since they now own the rights why would they not try to get some extra revenue?
k thx 0 Report post Posted May 12, 2006 Why is the WWE not wanting to sell the shows? Since they now own the rights why would they not try to get some extra revenue? I'm guessing the same reason they don't put out monthly DVDs of Heat and Velocity.

Likely they don't want you to see the Spirit Squad fighting amongst themselves in OVW, or that Gunner Scott is Brent Albright. What happened with a wrestler before they go E... didn't happen.
