Special K 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 It's still better than that horrible version Manson did. Oh, Jesus Mary and Joseph. Thank the lord that never entered my earholes (tm Del) I can't believe some people still think his version of Sweet Dreams is better than the Eurhythmics'. Henry Spencer 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 Since the primary hook of Personal Jesus is played on a guitar, is it really a quintessential synth pop song? Enjoy The Silence would be a much better choice.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted July 5, 2006 is kraftwerk considered the masters of electro? because they're quite boring I don't really get this. Either you're going to get off on their nerdiness, or just hate them. Boring is not a label I've seen ascribed to them. It's like Devo. On the contrary, some of those songs on Trans-Europe Express are just too fucking long. At least when Neu! goes on for eight minutes, there are cool solos and stuff happening, but they could've taken two minutes off every song but the last two and put those toward a new song or two. IN MY OPINION. I just don't think the Trans-Europe Express/Metal On Metal/TEE Reprise has to be thirteen and a half minutes. Though I do love that BOOM-CHHSHH-BOOMBOOM-CHANKCHANK part. Annabelle 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 souless, emotionless, robotic = boring. kraftwerk serves a certain purpose, and historically speaking, they're quite relevent. i find it quite humourous that allmusic.com encyclopedias like bobby peru are ATTEMPTING to tell me how i should or shouldn't feel about a certain group. is kraftwerk good because you REALLY like them or because you're SUPPOSED to like them? lots of you need to worry more about what sounds good than what subgenre the shit comes from. you people are discussing the most inane aspects of music. synth pop is pop music. thats it. Guest Felonies! Report post Posted July 5, 2006 I genuinely think The Man-Machine is a good album, but I kinda felt like I was forcing the appreciation with Autobahn.

I like Kaftwerk because I grew up listening to them them. And actually read my fucking post. I didn't say you SHOULD like them, or that many people really would. I basically said they were I like or hate band, and that 'boring' was the one thing I wouldn't describe them as. allmusic.com encyclopedias like bobby peru Honestly I don't have a clue what you're talking about here. I have never been to allmusic.com And whats next? debating the difference between hip hop & rap? I'm right with you on the stupidity of splitting hairs with genre of music Oh wait. I already wrote about that: First of all, quibbling about genres is just sort of counter-productive. I think there have been threads here which have consisted entirely of people arguing about the sub-categories of metal. Dumbass.

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 Electro = Kraftwork and Synth Pop = any New Wave band that uses a Casino or Roland keyboard. Top 5 overplayed Synth Pop: 1. Tainted Love 2. You Spin Me Round and Round 3. Reach out and touch faith 4. 99 ballons 5. Cars In other words, get your priorities straight about the genre if you are going to talk about it. there's certainly a consistant vibe to all of those songs. he's not offbase. but again, you're overanalyzing pop songs. no need to insult the guy because he's confused "synth" pop with pop music. Special K 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 It's 99 LUFTballons rarh rarh snort. Luft means air, right? Those songs are pretty much New Wave to me, but again bitching about genres is just going to lead to an endless bitchfest. I'll make a contentious statement: Orbital's In Sides is the best techno album ever. And frankly, i haven't heard an album that even approaches it.

Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2006 ya, LOVECRAFT, whats the difference between synth pop & new wave? cmon I never said that there was. Besides, this thread isn't only about synth pop. It's also about Electro and it's various subgenres. Now can we please not debate this, and just get back on topic. Christ, this is almost as bad as when I argued with Thumbtack over Burzum. Peru is right about how stupid it is to bitch about genres. Quit picking a fight/starting a debate/whatever it is you are doing and enjoy the thread. If you don't like the genre, then fine, post somewhere else. Quit derailing the thread.
Guest Felonies! Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Between the bands Kraftwork, Kaftwerk, Casino keyboards, the song "Reach Out And Touch Faith," and incorrect genre designations, you can't quote too much without using the ol' [sic] brackets.

Annabelle 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Is Blue Monday Synth-Pop or New Wave? the first time you listened to a song you should be able to place it in its genre and subgenre, and be able to cite its top 3 influences. clearly you have been unable to do this. leave this thread before lovecraft sees you.
