Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Does anyone think there will ever be any more super musicians to come about or have we already seen the best? There are great musicians out there today but will there ever be singers or groups that are the quality of people like Elvis, the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, ACDC, VanHalen, Neil Young or Yoko Kanno? vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 That's a wide range of "super musicians". AC/DC, eh? Is this thread going to turn into a quagmire like "Who is the defining artist of this generation?" I'll start it off by saying...Radiohead.

vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Can we instead use it to discuss our favorite candy bars? I like Take 5.
Ravenbomb 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I'd say Mike Patton, but he doesn't have the mainstream exposure to be like the groups/singers you mentioned

vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I met Paul Wall at the baseball game tonite. He's got a shiny mouth.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I never thought I could love "Wild Horses," but then I heard the Flying Burrito Brothers' version.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Yeah...Gram Parsons is great. I only thought I dug "Love Hurts" till I heard him and Emmylou do it.
Special K 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I just want ONE good keyboardist. I watch Coldplay and Keane, and they just piss me off. plonking on chords doesn't make you good, no matter how hard you press the keys , you stupid shit. On the plus side, saw Sonic Youth. Fucking mesmerizing and incredible. PLAY that guitar with a screwdriver!
ZGangsta 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 Come on let's just end this because we all know where this thread will go: -People will claim all the bands that WP posted suck -A few folks will claim the some shit like Neutral Milk Hotel or some other band you've never heard of are the only genius musicians around to prove that they're smarter than you for knowing who this random indie band are. -Radiohead -Random trashing of Green Day/Nickleback -Making fun of WP on principle -Kayne West -etc. -etc. So can we skip to the last step, which is invariably: -Incandenza gets drunk and starts real-time dictating his thoughts of whatever album he's listening to at the moment. vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 So, I hear on Pitchfork that Neutral Milk Hotel might have a new CD coming out. They also have videos of TV on the Radio in concert with two old white guys that won't shut up.
Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted July 6, 2006 how did pegasus slip in van halen? Does that surprise you? Van Halen rules all. I love my Van Halen. It's great workout music. All the names I mentioned blow me away as being on a different level whenever I hear them as compared to most others. I won't pretend for 1 second that I am a music expert because I'm not. There are songs that I hear today that are fantastic but I want to know of a band or a singer that's putting out several fantastic songs. Songs that will stand the test of time for generations to come. Educate me. Is there anyone out there today who is as good as Elvis or perhaps even better? That's what I wanna know. What about Madonna? etc....

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I also want to know how fond people are of Elvis on the board here. Is he the Benoit/Dynamite Kid or the Wayne Gretzky/Bobby Orr of the music world? Because I think he's pretty high up there.

Guest wildpegasus Report post Posted July 6, 2006 wildpegasus is a legend. he's managed to maintained a gimmick for 3 years. THREE years. man, thats restraint. Well, thanks. I'm not a gimmick though. My Astroboy fandom is real, my weightraining is real, my ego is real, my girl problems are unfortuanately real, my strip club stories are real, the weight bench story is totally accurate and every single one of my childhood stories is real. I could tell a bunch of other stories that surpass what I've told already but I gotta keep some of my pride. I've really only joked around a few times. Once in a thread with Hawk34 where I teased him half to death with half truths and half lies. But I want to talk about the music. How does everyone here rate Elvis? Does anyone in the music world have the talent to be as good as Elvis someday?

Guest Felonies! Report post Posted July 6, 2006 I also want to know how fond people are of Elvis on the board here. Is he the Benoit/Dynamite Kid or the Wayne Gretzky/Bobby Orr of the music world? I rarely know what the hell you're talking about. Why don't you compare him to fucking Astroboy while you're at it, geez. Regarding the thread title: probably in Dream Theater, but that has nothing to do with what you actually asked. Kotz's take on this was as concise and true as we're gonna get here, so let's just derail this while we're ahead. Ben Folds Five, or solo Ben Folds? I just heard Songs for Silverman today for the first time. Ben's gettin' complacent. Where's the I'm-gonna-say-"fuck"-in-this-song-no-matter-how-much-it-doesn't-fit-and-makes-me-sound-like-a-5th-grader-who-just-learned-to-swear Ben Folds? "Jesusland"? He's taking songwriting cues from stupid Funny Internet Pictures now? Why don't you write "The Owned Song" while you're at it.

vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 6, 2006 So, if I were to take a poll of everyone's favorite Hank Williams, would it be Hank 1, Hank 2, or Hank 3?
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 Shooter Jennings. I'm on my virgin excursion through Soft Machine's Third; it's some real fusiony prog that's totally fitting my mood right now. I'm thinking of starting a prog thread, but I'm not too well-versed in the genre.
vivalaultra 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2006 Hey, I just got the Shooter Jennings CD today. I'd give it a 6 outta 10. I like the slower tempo stuff more than the rootin' tootin' "busted for smokin' dope" songs. I also got the new Hank 3 CD. I like Hank 3. He's like his daddy and his grandaddy rolled into one Phil Anselmo friendly/Kid Rock hating package.
